Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where you get to make a decision!

BIWI · 01/02/2016 14:41

Afternoon all! Apologies for the later than usual start to this week's chat thread.

Here's the spreadsheet

I was up so early I completely forgot to weigh this morning Blush

Now. It's week 3, so you get to decide. Do you want to move onto Bootcamp Light, or do you want to stay on Bootcamp? Or, do you want to do both - Bootcamp during the week, and then relax at the weekend, with Bootcamp Light?

The rules for Bootcamp Light are at the bottom of the spreadsheet, but in a nutshell it means you can add nuts/seeds (occasionally, and in moderation); you can eat some fruit - mainly berries, and again in moderation, and you can have the occasional alcoholic drink - again, stick to spirits and wine.

If you're happy staying on Bootcamp, that's fine - but if you decide to do this, please make sure you're getting most of your carbs from veg and salad, and not from other processed foods, otherwise you won't be getting optimal nutrition.

And now for the warning! It's very, very common in weeks 3 and 4 (and sometimes even 5) for weight loss to slow/stop altogether. If this happens to you, please don't be disheartened. It's your body catching up with you! KOKO, and things will soon start to move again - albeit that you're more likely to see smaller weekly losses, around 1-2lbs a week.

Evening all. I had pizza for dinner. ShockGrin But it's alright, it was the fathead pizza. I thought it was great and very filling. It is the nearest I have come to a bread product in 5 weeks. I had it with salad and hm vinaigrette. DH liked it too, but the boys weren't so keen. At least that means there is left overs for tomorrow.
Just had creamy coffee for breakfast and lunch was cheese, ham, olives and salad.
Last night, I had one G&T. It was glorious, but did go to my head somewhat as I haven't drank in over a month!
My weight seems to be down at the moment, I'm just hoping it stays there for Monday. I don't want a repeat of last week.

Thanks for those with rl struggles and well done for sticking with it as it's difficult when rl intrudes.

ShouldI Pilates is the bomb for a sore back. My life has been transformed by it. I went from crying when I dropped things on the floor (because I couldn't pick them up) to being completely pain free. And that's with osteoarthritic degeneration of the lower spine.

Gcalgske · 06/02/2016 20:06

With you on that stunt Pilates did more for my low back nerve damage that nerve blocks ever did! I have had an 80% reduction in pain and pain meds if I do my Pilates, plus (although covered in a big layer of fat and loose skin Hmm) I have a hard tummy.

ShebaQueen · 06/02/2016 20:26

Evening all, I'm trying the Thai green curry from the recipe thread tonight with cauliflower rice. I'm loving the supermarket ready made cauli rice, I always make such a mess when making my own.

Have a tricky afternoon tea coming up on Wednesday, it's work related so I can't get out of it, but I have a feeling there won't be anything I can eat Sad I do much better when I am prepared and in control. Not sure I've lost this week, I can usually feel it - I know that sounds odd, but I am 9 months in on this woe with only occasional deviations from bootcamp and I can almost tell without weighing if I've lost or not.

Hang on in there everyone and Flowers to those struggling in tough times.

shouldiblowthewhistle · 06/02/2016 20:56

StuntNun and Gcal seriously? What kind of pilates did you do? I did Reformer pilates about 4 years ago (1x per week for 5 months) but it didn't do that much for my lower back although I felt fantastic generally after the session. I have a pilates DVD here which I've not looked at yet - Darcy someone. Would that do or do I need to go to a class?

Hi Sheba. Where do you get the pre-made cauli rice?

Gcalgske · 06/02/2016 21:22

Totally genuinely serious. I still have pelvic instability so can go out of alignment and that causes pain but it's made such a difference. I can sleep without pain, and I can walk. I do APPI Pilates. I started seeing a physio and had one to one sessions once a week until my health insurance stopped paying out, then switched to once a month, now once every three months plus a weekly class.

I should do it every day. 10-15 mins stretches on waking (used to be 60mg codeine and 1000mg naproxen)

After lunch / before dinner (when ever I get time) I do 20-30 mins of a few exercises and do a few hand weights, push ups and dips too.

Same again (excluding hand weights) at bed.

But my motivation has been lacking for a while. I manage 4 days a week at the moment and that is keeping me at 80%, I was at 100% when I was doing it everyday.

If you google the appi uk website you'll find a list of accredited teachers/ classes.

blackteaplease · 06/02/2016 21:28

Should Tesco are selling cauli rice and courgetti on 3 for 2 at the moment.

AuntieMaggie · 06/02/2016 21:37

With the cauli rice how long should it be cooked? When dp makes it it seems to just be raw shredded cauli...

All this talk of pilates has made me feel guilty as I need to get back to doing the exercises physio gave me and get to the gym so I can do some weights... not feeling the motivation though Sad

Feeling a bit low this eve and can't be bothered to eat... don't know if it's because it's the end of my period or because my pelvis has been playing up all but have suddenly come over all tired and lethargic this eve... I've had a good day food wise though only 2 meals and I've managed to dodge my toddler trying to feed me various foods all day Hmm

LexLoofah · 06/02/2016 21:39

B - courgettes in butter, scr egg, air dried ham which I thought was not processed but of course it is, really need to reduce that kind of thing and save it for bacon & sausages
L - celery & butter, bresaola in lettuce wraps (aargh more processed meat), raspberries, dark choc
D - out, had lovely fillet steak, ox cheek, cabbage, broccoli, modest amount of port sauce, dark choc

Gcalgske · 06/02/2016 22:02

auntiemaggie I have roasted the cauli rice for 20 mins, or cook stove top in a very little stock/butter for 10-15, just until it's soft or you can microwave for 2/3 mins and then add herbs etc.

NigellasGuest · 06/02/2016 22:14

thanks for the encouragement Wand - tonight has been loads better.

I've been browsing the recipe thread so I tried mounds of grated cheese baked in the oven today - wow they're good!

I've also made a random vegetable soup with mushrooms, shallots, courgettes and leeks, plus cream, butter and coconut oil.

Gcalgske · 06/02/2016 22:23

Nigella random soups can turn out ace :)

Food today:

B: creamy coffee
L: 2x Debbie and Andrews sausages, swede mash with shallot, chilli, garlic and butter
D: cheesy crackers with butter and marmite, cucumber to scoop chicken mayo
Frozen earl grey tea cream. That was awesome.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 06/02/2016 22:44

INteresting about the APPI Pilates, thanks for that info, will see if there are any in Australia too. I have not only pelvic instability but also whole spine instability - I bought this great book, Yoga for Wimps, for the "flexibly challenged" some years ago - got to the second exercise and knocked 3 thoracic verterbrae out of line. My osteopath then banned me from doing yoga, and I'm only allowed to try pilates with a therapeutic teacher, not a general class (so haven't found one).

My osteo generally keeps me in line, but it would be cheaper to find some safe exercises that don't immediately bugger everything up! My neck is a major source of problems, if that goes out I get intermittent vertigo. :(

Gcalgske · 06/02/2016 22:45

moan I make these, I use almond milk and stevia or erythritol.

2 tbsp is about 40g coconut flour. The other ingredients are all low. If you use the 9g/100g flour (it makes 8 small pancakes) the are very low each.

Gcalgske · 06/02/2016 22:50

Thumb, that makes total sense, if you are already too flexible / unstable then stretching in yoga isn't good. Pilates involves stretches but crucially you build strength first. Appi started in Aus, the thing about them is that all of their instructors are required to be trained physiotherapists so you can be a bit more confident.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 06/02/2016 22:57

Cool, thanks! I'll see if I can find a nearby one :)

Moanranger · 06/02/2016 23:05

Tonight my DP comes home with a bloody cake! & offers me some! Even after having CLEARLY announced my intention to lose 10lbs this month. Men always do this. Why? I ignored his offering.
As this is day 1, a bit challenging & I felt rotten & low late afternoon-early evening, but once I had dinner, I felt fine, full & now to bed
D= Chicken cacciatore from The Whole 30 cookbook, best C cacciatore recipe I have ever found; I make a batch, split in half & put orrchietti in DP's serving.
Also cauliflower mash.'night,all.

blackteaplease · 07/02/2016 07:01

Dh bought crisps last night to munch with the film we were planning to watch. He knew I wasn't allowed them so also bought salted peanuts and spicy nuts as an alternative. I think I may have to show him the rules.

For the first time in my life I measured out a portion of salted peanuts to eat. It didn't look much but was surprisingly satisfying.

nekobus · 07/02/2016 08:47

Good morning! We've made it to Sunday, hope the scales are kind tomorrow Smile

Weekends are hardest for me as we are usually out for at least one meal, plus we eat more with the DCs and I try to not make my plateful look too different!

Yesterday
B - 2 hb eggs with butter, BPC
L - was chicken and prawn salad in Giraffe (I picked out the mango!) dressing was creamy Caesar type thing hopefully not too bad...
D - 2 chicken thighs, 1 LC sausage, salad leaves and dressing
S - 95% choc 35g
Water - 2.5 L

I'm reading the Pilates chat with interest - my pelvis has never been the same since having SPD in pregnancy 3y ago but GP not that interested in any NHS support - just says find a private physio/osteo. I also periodically put my back out from a sudden movement and then spend a week on painkillers. Have googled to see who does appi locally.

nekobus · 07/02/2016 08:49

And today:

B - LC sausage and fried egg, coffee with cream, tea with soya
L - out at a friends, will just have to see what I can do without offending Confused
D - something very low carb to balance out lunch!

Gcalgske · 07/02/2016 08:56

Neko it's all related, I have spd/PGP still - my daughter is 3. During delivery I nearly died due to a few things but long story short I ended up with my legs at my ears for several hours of life saving surgery a coupe of times and my unstable pelvis crushed nerves in my back. Most ladies with SPD/PGP could use realignment from a good pregnancy specialist osteopath, once you are no longer pregnant and flooded with the hormones to make you super flexible your joints etc sometimes settle in the wrong place and cause pain through the back/joints/legs. An osteo will get you back in the right place then Pilates will help strengthen you to keep you there. X

nekobus · 07/02/2016 09:06

Thanks Gcal, I think I've slipped into a mindset that says this is just how it is and there is nothing I can do about it. Will look at finding osteopath for a start! My joints are hypermobile which I don't think helps as I overextend without even thinking and tend to be unstable around hips and knees. I remember when the wii fit came out and I did a balance test - it set my age +20 years!

Losing weight should help too - I've got about 2 stone to lose, and really love the LC woe having been brain washed by low fat high carb for so many years Smile

Gcalgske · 07/02/2016 09:44

Hyper mobility is the root of so many problems. Flowers

shouldiblowthewhistle · 07/02/2016 09:48

Sorry to hear of others with annoyingly painful spines. Thumb that sounds incredibly frustrating. I slipped on my tailbone a number of years ago and twisted it - the physio said he could feel it and managed to twist it back again?! Is that even possible? Anyway that, and sudden overtraining for the 2011 marathon (got a place last minute) has really done me in. Lower back went doing some squats before Christmas and like nekobus I was on painkillers for a week. I also think carrying so much extra weight around my middle can't help.

I will look into APPI pilates. I don't have much of a budget though

mustbemad71 · 07/02/2016 10:31

Thanksfor all those suffering. Childbirth seriously wrecks your body - my pelvic floor is completely knackered and am putting off hysterectomy for as long as poss.

All is not going well here - 2lbs on! Had a glass of wine on Friday night and again last night and has a bloomin bread bun yesterday lunch as out and it was made for me so didn't want to be rude. Back on it today. Cutting right back on dairy as becoming addicted to dbl cream and snacking on monster chunks of cheese, aaargh! Need to up the water to fill me up.

Going to the recipe thread next for inspiration. Hope everyone has a good day!
