We filled up the last thread and we still have 3 weeks to go until the next official BC so here is our new inbetween BC thread.

Link to previous thread

So, I was good yesterday and now all of my confessions are lost on the previous thread Grin but I am going to carry on with daily weighing and food recording so this morning I weighed 225 lbs.

I haven't been on this thread really, but I did the last bootcamp with fantastic results. Since coming back from holiday I have mostly been following bootcamp rules and have very quickly dropped the holiday weight gain. I'm now slightly lower than I was before we went.

However, I now need some advice. We found out the day we left on holiday that I'm pregnant. My last pregnancy was a molar pregnancy and it has been a long and difficult process to get here. I'm so grateful to BIWI, though, because I genuinely believe that the weight loss and other health benefits of bootcamp boosted my fertility. We were successful in the first month of TTC, and we weren't even trying that hard!

Anyway, we went for an early scan on Thursday to ensure this wasn't a molar pregnancy, and even though I was just over six weeks we were able to see a heartbeat...and then another heartbeat! So it would appear we're havig twins, and I'm absolutely overjoyed.

My question is, for people who have done LCHF while pregnant, what is your approach? At the moment I'm eating as usual but having small amounts of blueberries and almonds because I'm finding I need a little snack in the afternoon. I'm also thinking about including the occasional apple and small amounts of sweet potato. I am not intending to eat bread or pasta or any other processed carbs.

As you'd expect, I'm feeling a bit rough at the moment, but does this sound like an okay approach? Thanks for any advice.

SayraT · 26/04/2015 08:01

Congratulations almahart Flowers

I'm not an expert on LC while pregnant but I think most carry on with the WOE except do a more BClite than full BC.

Congratulations! That's amazing Smile. What a fantastic side effect of this WOE.

I'm no expert either but the food we eat is really healthy isn't it, so how can it be bad for a baby? I'd go for bc lite. Plenty of fresh veg, good dairy like FF greek yoghurt, berries, nuts and seeds, lots of avocados, eggs and nice meat. I wouldn't be rushing out to start eating pasta etc either. I might be tempted to try a small amount of porridge if I was suffering with morning sickness and couldn't face eggs. You could make it with water and cream.

Gcalgske · 26/04/2015 09:00

Congrats amaxapax! I did LC for the first half of my pregnancy but I relaxed a bit too much in the end (and went on a fruit / crap binge) wish I hadnt!
I think stay away from processed carbs, eat lots of healthy LC veg. I also drank lots of smoothies with Greek yog and berries and lacto free milk (its much lower in carbs) for calcium.

sassandfaff · 26/04/2015 09:13

Congratulations amax what brilliant news. Reminds me of when I got told I was expecting twins. Wonderful.

I haven't read anything in pregnancy and low carb, so I couldn't advise with any knowledge, but I know if I was pregnant now I would just carry on. I would probably eat more veg and not be too worried about higher carb veg like carrots, but I certainly wouldn't start eating pasta, rice, breads etc.

On saying that, I had horrendous morning sickness with my twins though and the only thing I could stomach for weeks was chips or pasta, ie. Beige food. Yuk.

Well, I went out on Fri and I have to say I looked pretty good. Grin I couldn't stop looking in the toilet mirrors. I'm still podgy don't get me wrong, but it's more a curvy podgy now rather than a fat podgy. Wink

I think my new top helped. A cold shoulder top. (Get me knowing the lingo) it is gorgeous.

Hope everyone is well.

nappyaddict · 26/04/2015 09:15

Up 2lbs from yesterday :( I only drank 1.5 litres of water though so that may be the culprit.

BIWI · 26/04/2015 09:40

Flowers amaxapax that's lovely, lovely news!

StuntNun is the woman you need - she low carbed throughout her pregnancy.

BIWI · 26/04/2015 09:41

nappy don't stress about it - 2lbs isn't a huge amount. But as ever, have a look at what you ate to see if there's anything obviously - or it could just be a natural, daily fluctuation.

StuntNun · 26/04/2015 10:24

Congratulations Amaxapax, what lovely news. What you're planning sounds perfect, it is recommended to stay out of ketosis in pregnancy so a few extra 'safe' carbs are good. Food cravings and aversions can be a problem for some people who eat low carb through pregnancy, for example some people go off meat. If you have morning sickness you may find you end up eating carby food to help with the nausea. If that does happen I would say just go with the flow and plan to get back on track when the sickness ends.

Amaxapax · 26/04/2015 10:51

Thanks so much for all the lovely comments and advice. It's good to know that I'm on the right track.

I've not had any sickness or food aversions so far, but I have had some nausea and a bit of heaving if I get too hungry. Mostly I'm just very very tired. I have a feeling I should probably get used to that.

Romeyroo · 26/04/2015 11:03

What fantastic news amaxapax, congratulations Flowers

BerylStreep · 26/04/2015 11:19

Great news Amaxapax. I found ginger helps with nausea - you could try some ginger spiced lc muffins. Or aromatic poached chicken with ginger from Gillian McKeith:

4 chicken breasts / thighs
stock cube
1 stalk of lemongrass, cut into 2cm pieces
2 kaffir lime leaves
2cm ginger, peeled & sliced
2 stalks celery, sliced
1 leek, sliced
100g shiitake mushrooms
bunch watercress
100g beansprouts
3tbs coriander

Poach the chicken with the stock cube, lemongrass, lime leaves & ginger. Once you bring to the boil, add the leek & celery and simmer for 20 mins.

Add mushrooms and cook for another 2 mins. Remove from heat and take out the chicken. Slice chicken on the diagonal.

Add the watercress, beansprouts & coriander to the the pan and allow to wilt.

Divide between 4 soup bowls.

Wombat22 · 26/04/2015 12:54

Congratulations Amaxapax Thanks

LexLoofah · 26/04/2015 12:59

Congrats Amax that is brilliant news, good on you for sticking with lc

DramaAlpaca · 26/04/2015 13:33

Congratulations Amaxapax what wonderful news Flowers

Preminstreltension · 26/04/2015 15:35

Great news amaxapax.

I found a more interesting way to eat ff Greek yogurt. I stirred in some Philly and added some salt and pepper, drizzled with oil. Would have added a bit of chopped cucumber if I'd had any.

trashcanjunkie · 26/04/2015 15:48

amax that is fantastic news congratulations. I lc for a year then fell pregnant with my twins (now ten Grin) and I ate tuna mayonnaise with baby spinach leaves mixed in on ryvita nearly everyday. I think it helped my iron levels, which were always fine. Also drank a big glass of full fat milk, purely for cravings, not sure of the health benefits! But I think the most important thing is being as in tune with your body and listening to what it tells you. Swimming and Aqua natal was great towards the end when I was very full of babies. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions you want answered.

Had a disaster weekend food wise, but back on it tommorrow, (sort of today but cupboards bit drastic)

Need to buy new batteries for scales, as there's only one in and it needs two, and is going funny.

MrsKoala · 26/04/2015 16:01

Congratulations Amax, what amazing news. I'm so pleased for you and your dh. Flowers

I carbed out yesterday. I indulged in the bread dh bought me, and then more bread and then a bit more Blush back on my bc maintenance today. I enjoyed the bread but I bloated pretty immediately and felt sick after eating again for the first time in ages.

Today I had eggs, bacon, leeks and green pepper for breakfast and a Greek salad for lunch. Got roast beef for dinner later. Must resist the Yorkshire pudding tho.

Gcalgske · 26/04/2015 16:38

Well the snow is on here, hard. I'd packed away my winter jacket as it was positively balmy (husband golfing in shorts and me and little one slathering on the sun lotion and looking out the sun dresses). I'd bought a proper big sized (22) ski jacket while pregnant and it fitted over my bump but with my weight gain post baby it grew to fit, then be really tight round my middle this winter but I refused to spend money on a bigger size. It's now loose. Not ridiculously so but I can use the pockets now and sit down in it comfortably. Goes to show that despite not a lot of change in the scales recently it IS working. Grin

BerylStreep · 26/04/2015 17:44

How amazing that so many posters on the thread have twins.

I wonder is it a higher than average incidence?

CrabbyTheCrabster · 26/04/2015 17:48

Wow what amazing news Amaxa! Congratulations Flowers

BIWI that menu sounded gorgeous. How did it go?

Ok I'm ready for my low carb start tomorrow having stuffed myself with carbs in preparation. Hmm

My plan is to eat fairly low carb next week to ease myself in (I've got a butternut squash that needs using up though, so not quite BC light). We have friends visiting next weekend, which will be a food and booze fest, so once that's out of the way will do BC light for a couple of days and then I'm going to start actual BC (the hardcore fortnight) a bit early on Thurs 7th. This is because it's my birthday near to the bank holiday weekend so want to be able to have some red wine then.

Will be posting my food here to help keep me on the straight and narrow.

Am hoping to lose a couple of stone and hopefully improve a host of annoying health issues. I've got a gym induction on Tuesday too so will be trying to improve my fitness at the same time.

Romeyroo · 26/04/2015 20:59

Urgh, still in a muddle here, not getting my food straight at all in between more trips to tip, doing laundry, taking DC, struggling with DS behaviour (all too much for him to cope with at the moment), and now cleaning house.

B two egg omelette with broccoli and black olives

L ended up eating out, salmon in a cream and spinach sauce, mixed salad, it was lovely

D not had anything yet.

Joining you on the emotionally incontinent bench, MrsK, this weekend has been rough going, I am barely coping. I hope you are feeling better and moved off it now.

Beryl, I was thinking the same about twins on this thread!

Romeyroo · 26/04/2015 20:59

Taking DC out, I meant

Gcalgske · 26/04/2015 21:21

Today wasn't great but not too bad.
B: BPC
L: Tiny bowl of butternut, coconut and chilli soup - (worked out about 8g carbs) was lovely but too high in carbs for the portion (not even a full ladle)
Some celery, cucumber and tomato, Gorgonzola and butter
D: green pepper, stuffed with bacon lardons, passata and topped with mozzerella, square of dark chocolate

SayraT · 26/04/2015 21:29

Food Today

B: Fried eggs, bacon and sausage, coffee with cream
L: Prawn omelette with salad
D: Salmon (fried in butter), asparagus and broccoli

E: 16km ride with ~1km in canter/gallop
