The inbetween BC BC for those who didn't do as well as they should on the real BC

SayraT · 06/04/2015 18:41

Ok, some of us (me) didn't do very well on the real actual BC and some others just feel the need to have a little extra push before the next real BC so this is our inbetween BC BC Grin

I'll start, I'm currently 222 lb and want to be 217 lb by the start of the real BC (11th May). I will be recording my food daily to keep on track, I am also going to weigh daily.

Food

B: Flax wrap with butter, coffee with cream
L: M&S salad, ff yog
S: S&V peanuts (none left now so I'll have normal nuts or none at all)
D: Cauli-rice with hot smoked salmon

Morning all. Sorry some of you are having a tough time Flowers.

sass I've been there with the young DC and a husband away a lot. It's hard work. It gets easier as they grow up - different challenges but not so physically full on. What did surprise me was how much they still need you in their teenage years and their early twenties. I sometimes find myself exhausted with all the emotional support I have to give to the three of them (my sons are 21, 20 & 17). You never stop worrying about them, and unlike when they are small, you can't always fix things for them. DS3 is my current biggest concern - he's struggling with social anxiety, school is too much for him atm, and he has state exams coming up next year.

My parents are elderly now & although they are currently both in good health I worry about them a lot. We are not in the same country, so it's going to be hard when they do start to need more care.

These days I am finding that work is helping to keep me sane - gets me out of the house & stops me thinking, moping and eating.

I've got the dreaded week 3-5 weight loss stall. I'm glad I know it's normal, but it's so frustrating. Also I'm getting a bit bored with my food. Didn't enjoy dinner last night. It was steak with salad & celeriac dauphinoise from the IPD cookbook - but I didn't like the steak & the dauphinoise didn't work properly, was much too runny. Need to revisit recipes.

Good luck with your meeting MrsK Flowers

Morning All - apologies for radio silence, seems to be the week for bad news.
Granny has been in hospital for 3 weeks, finally diagnosed with throat cancer and to has spread to her lungs already, not unexpected shes now 80 and has smoked 20 a day for over 60 years. just not the best news.

slipped a little yesterday and had a couple of chocolates at the hospital with her but hoping it wont have pulled me too far out of the rhythm back on the wagon again today.

B - large slice of butchers cooked ham rolled up with cream cheese and a mug of green tea with lemon.

w - today stands at 144.6lbs. aseem to be keeping steady at the minute.

BabsUnited · 21/04/2015 10:41

hello everyone. Sorry for your news babygiraffe Flowers

Any recommendations for a nice dinner? We have two friends coming for dinner tonight. I can shop to pick up a few bits but as we're running down the fridge and freezer would rather use what we have. We have:

-chicken thighs
-coconut milk
-red thai curry paste
-green pesto
-brocolli
-cauliflower
-tinned tomatoes
-salad bits (just lettuce/cuc/tom/spring onions)
-delicious bread (I obvs wont have any of this)
-basmati rice (same as above)
-double cream
-ham
-parma ham (only 6 slices)
-chestnut mushrooms
-shallots
-numerous cheeses including brie, edam and cheddar

Was sort of thinking chicken thighs (with skin on) wrapped in parma ham and roasted, with a mushroom/cream sauce, and maybe steamed brocolli? Is that a bit boring for a dinner party?

Or maybe a red thai curry with the chicken thighs whole... but no real veg to add to it apart from mushrooms. and obvs I can't have the rice I'd do on the side.

Any suggestions?

RhubarbCrumbled · 21/04/2015 11:05

Hello, can I join you all? I started BC ages ago, did the two weeks then fell off the wagon. Started again in Jan and never really got going. Got on the scales yesterday and almost fell off with shock at the gain - heaviest since having DS 2 years ago. Also feeling really bloaty and can't get into my summer clothes!

So, starting out at 135lbs and would ideally like to lose 14 lbs but 10 will be good for a start. Today I have had:

B: Total yogurt with cream and vanilla; egg mayo
L: Prawn mayo and avocado salad
T: Chorizo flan with salad

sassandfaff · 21/04/2015 11:12

mrsk good luck in your school meeting.

giraffe sorry about your grandma. Thanks

babs I'm not ignoring you, I am just not a very good cook! I can't look at ingredients like that and come up with something. I hardly even know the basics. Wink I think gcal will be the woman for you or biwi they seem to have the flair.

Well, my lovely dp (unusual to say that- he has changed A. Lot. Since Christmas. Ha) is coming back this weekend, leaving his older childless colleague on the job by himself, and is going to take me out. My mum has agreed to babysit. Yeah. Shopping today I think!

A mum at nursery asked me to take her to a place I have told her about for vintage, antique stuff today too. So that should be good. Made plans to go Friday, but dp is coming back Thurs night till sun, so need to rearrange. Hope she doesn't mind!

Taking my mum and the dc's out for dinner tonight too as it is her birthday Thurs. Only carvery, but a change anyway.

Thanks for listening to me last night. You are all lovely. Thanks Thanks Thanks

Sometimes a ear is what is needed sass

MrsK it is important to remember that words on a paper does not stop your boy being your boy and who he is. It just helps you to know how best to help him. Once the shock wears off (and discussions like that are a shock) it may help to explain why things are the way they are and what strategies might help. But once you know and learn what works for your son and what doesn't it does get easier. Good luck with your meeting.

Sorry you got bad news Babygiraffe

MrsKoala · 21/04/2015 12:13

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Leaving in 25 mins, really dreading it now :(

Dumdedumdedum · 21/04/2015 12:23

MrsKoala Best of luck. I see that cranial osteopathy has already been mentioned to you. I second trying it for your DS, if you haven't already. I believe it can be very calming for children in his position.

babygiraffe86 · 21/04/2015 12:44

hope it all goes as well as it can koala

thinking of you!

Gcalgske · 21/04/2015 13:36

Sass Blush thank you x
Babs what about the chix thighs, bone and stuff cavity with cheese. Wrap in ham and roast. Pesto roast cauliflower and broccoli. Or a chicken / mushroom Thai curry, crispy cauliflower (toss in curry powder and oil and roast), cauliflower 'rice' made with coconut milk is yum.
Or marinade the thighs in pesto - If you are going fancy you can partially bone them to make a chicken 'chop' - YouTube for video instructions. Cauliflower rice with pesto is good. I always add some roughly ground almonds for bite. Top the thighs with Parmesan to get really crisp and serve with salad, bread and shards of very crisp Parma ham (sandwich between baking sheets and bake)
Can I come for tea?

LexLoofah · 21/04/2015 14:54

sass Hmm at d mail article, if I did not know better I would be more confused than ever, shame on Dietic Association

mrsk thinking of you, good on you for addressing and not sticking your head in the sand, your little boy is lucky to have a brave Mummy, no-one could get through such a conversation without sobbing

sipping a BPC as will be needed today, that was demonstrated by the fact that I got all the way to my desk and remembered it was still in the car !

Gcalgske · 21/04/2015 15:25

Enjoying this deli thingy from Aldo in the sunshine as a late lunch.

MrsKoala · 21/04/2015 15:32

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. it wasn't as bad as i thought. It was helped by the fact the ds1 ran in without a second glance. Which is very different from last term.

Just off to pick him up now. :)

Had mackerel and salad and mayo for lunch.

BIWI · 21/04/2015 16:34

Oh. My. Fucking. God.

Angry about that DM article. I knew I shouldn't have clicked on the link!

No mention about carbs from vegetables.

No mention about the positive contribution that fat can make.

No mention about the unnecessary vilification of fat.

And as for that woman quoted at the end, with her headaches. She should have been on Bootcamp. We'd have sorted her out!

nappyaddict · 21/04/2015 17:00

RhubarbCrumbled welcome Smile do you have a target weight and target clothes size in mind?

I want to lose 2 inches off my tummy and drop down to a size 8/10. I think this will put me at about 9 stone (I am 5 foot 3.5". How tall are you?)

Atm I wear a size 10 in some things, 12 in some things and then annoyingly a non existent 11 in others which means I am bursting out of a 10 or showing my bum to the world with a 12.

LexLoofah · 21/04/2015 17:29

Gcal that looks yummy

B - ff greek yog, handful blueberries, ground flax, walnuts, almonds, pumkin seeds, drizzle of cream, one cup of tea but could have murdered another one or three
L - crunchy salad veg, rocket, hm mayo, olives, dill pickle, smoked salmon
D - will be a bit of leftover cauli cheese

expect sq of dark choc will be needed to get through the afternoon

Preminstreltension · 21/04/2015 19:41

B| Bits and bobs of smoked salmon and a bit of cheese
L: burrata and salad
D: chicory, chicken and avocado salad again with pest and Mayo dressing. Really nice

Gallons of water and have a raging thirst which is very unlike me. Must be in the zone.

StuntNun · 21/04/2015 19:56

The important words in that Daily Fail article are "any dietitian will tell you". You know to stop reading at that point.

LexLoofah · 21/04/2015 20:19

Their dietician 'expert' seems to be closely allied with big food and big pharma. From her website:

  • Helen has staffed a consumer Careline for a leading cereal manufacturer as part of National Breakfast Week.

  • Worked alongside Dr Roger Henderson GP, author & medical columnist and Caroline Sandry, celebrity fitness consultant on various educational videos for a major pharmaceutical company

enough said

LexLoofah · 21/04/2015 20:21

more:

  • Advised many top name food manufacturers on new angles for existing brands including trying to forecast future food trends.

  • Participated in two 'Expert Panels' as a nutrition consultant helping to shape the future direction of two leading brands.

  • Helped in the development and promotion of a national ‘kick start’ weight loss plan for a leading cereal manufacturer.

DarkEvilMoon · 21/04/2015 20:33

Today i had the odd experience of eating brie with a plastic spoon whilst sat in my car. I am not sure i even know where to begin to process this.

Romeyroo · 21/04/2015 20:38

Having a guess at the cereal manufacturer, Lex, and naming no names, DD wanted the red berries version and I about fell over at the amount of sugar in it. That is without thinking that the rice part will convert to blood glucose super fast.

Said manufacturers website however reassures us that we need not be too concerned about sugar as it is part of our daily nutritional needs and adding it helps DC eat cereal and get fibre and all the good stuff they have also added.

Clearly having a laugh at our expense.

Romeyroo · 21/04/2015 20:41

I didn't buy the cereal, by the way.

Romeyroo · 21/04/2015 20:56

Not able to catch up with whole thread just yet, but wanted to say sass, I was thinking about your situation and having to always start again with the fitness.
What are the options for having some weekly baby-sitting or something, so you can get out and do your thing for a couple of hours of an evening?
Maybe it is worth chatting with your DP if he is going to be away weeks at a time about some additional (paid) support. If you are doing it all, with little chance of a break, it will not help your health.

I have been KOKO today; disheartened as up a pound again - I am just going up and down the same two pounds again. I did a two mile walk yesterday and four miles today, so at least I am getting the exercise in, but grrr, upwards movement is annoying
