Ok, some of us (me) didn't do very well on the real actual BC and some others just feel the need to have a little extra push before the next real BC so this is our inbetween BC BC Grin

I'll start, I'm currently 222 lb and want to be 217 lb by the start of the real BC (11th May). I will be recording my food daily to keep on track, I am also going to weigh daily.

Food

B: Flax wrap with butter, coffee with cream
L: M&S salad, ff yog
S: S&V peanuts (none left now so I'll have normal nuts or none at all)
D: Cauli-rice with hot smoked salmon

Sorry to hear that camper hope you are feeling better now? Why do you think you felt funny, any particular reason?

Well, the pizza is ok. A bit more biscuity than dough-y, but I did halve the ingredients after putting it into MFP and choking on seeing the calories. So it was perhaps thinner than the original recipe intended. Pretty good though, it holds together well. I have seen recipes that combine ground almonds and cauliflower so I will try those next I think.

Why are you worrying about calories?! No need to if you're low carbing.

dark I hope you won out over the cravings.... I don't love his work myself, but for those of us at the mercy of them I've heard other people rave about Alan Carrs stop smoking book. Now I know we aren't quitting smoking, but he goes on about the pointlessness of giving in to cravings, which is entirely relevant.

katie how funny, I am a dog walker too, and so is sayra when she's not being brainiac parasite Dr in training Grin I also have a foreign student staying with me for three months who is coeliac, so am currently doing various bloody meals. He's absolutely delightful, but a self confessed food phobic, so does his best with my concoctions, but sometimes it's easier for me to just do him gluten free pasta and pesto, or a jacket potato or something.

camper that's bloody rubbish you poor thing. I wonder if you have labyrinthitus..... Hopefully the sleep will sort you out a bit. I guess you'll know by tomorrow if it's some kind of lurgy Flowers

Well, I did my first c25k tonight, and.... It wasn't terrible. My ankle actually is less swollen after the run! I'm sitting with it elevated and frozen peas on it now, just as a precaution.

Dinner was bloody nice, I made the celeriac cottage pie and did leeks with a bit of Philadelphia stirred through. Am watching my portions like fuck, cos I know that's been an issue for me in the past. I have also sussed that when I drink my water is really crucial for me. I have to drink the big chunks prior to meal times. That way, I can get it in, but also it prevents me over eating, as I'm too full up of water already. I'm half way through my third litre of water, and I've done about two thirds of a litre in tea with cream.

I'm hoping it's not something like labyrinthitis - I felt much better after my sleep, but still not quite right. I think I'm going to work from home tomorrow, so I don't have to be up at the crack of dawn.

Well done on the first C25K.

babs my favourite oven only low carb dinners:

Roasted sausage with chilli / lemon cauliflower.
Put sausages in an oven proof dish. Break cauli into florets, coat in olive oil and add zest and juice of one lemon and a heaped tsp of hot chilli powder. Mix well and roast for 35-45 mins with the sausages.

www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/nigella-lawson/roasted-duck-legs-and-potatoes-recipe.html

This but swap potato for cubed celeriac.

Tandoori-ish chicken and veg.
Chicken pieces (skin on thigh, leg quarters, breasts all work). Make a marinade with greek yoghurt or canned coconut milk with curry powder, chilli flake, lime juice, black onion seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaf, garlic, ginger, melted coconut oil and pour over chicken and low carb veg of your choice (cauliflower, green pepper and shallots are my favourite). Marinade for at least 2 hours then bake in a big uncovered dish until chicken cooked.
From the book Nigel Slater, Real food 1998
450g waxy potatoes, but Maris Piper will work.

Smoked mackerel dauphinois
225g smoked mackeral fillets
2 bay leaves
400ml double cream
100ml Water
1 tablespoon wholegrain mustard
Slice the celeriac thinly and layer in a shallow baking dish. Break apart the Mackeral fillets and put them in and around the potatoes, don’t make the pieces too small, good proper chunks is what you want. Tuck in the bay leaves underneath the potatoes.
Preheat the oven to 190C
Mix together the cream, water, mustard and a little salt & pepper, then pour it over the celeriac. Bake in the oven for about 45 mins – hour, until it’s all bubbling on top and it's crisp on top and tender underneath.

Over training yesterday turned out to be a bonus. it has been a struggle even lifting a pint glass, it meant i could not be bothered to move to walk to the shops to acquire chocolate. Sugar cravings only caved in so much as some flavoured yoghurt - some one ate all the plain up Hmm , I am ignoring that as with 4hrs of training and serious carb intake before I am in danger of carb crashing badly and that for me leads to passing out with is a pretty bad thing when I have to drive tomo. That was my tea, the planned late salad lunch didn't happen but an hour or so later there was fish and cauliflower and broccoli with lashing of butter. Will probably end up picking a cold sausage with the next dose of pain killers.

Hoping for a better day tomo and with it better eating.

I'd like to join the I between thread as I had to drop off the last couple of bootcamps although I did manage to sort if keep going. Life's challenges became a priority really.

I would like to loose a stone, which means I can get my clothes on- im wearing loose stuff at the moment, as I can't actully squash into my clothes without looking as though they belong to someone else. And no, they aren't Lycra!

Hi all i followed bc under a different name. I did reasonably well but this last 3 weeks i have really struggled - lots of shitty stuff going on in RL. However i am back!

Carbs do not suit me at all, i can categorically say that. I have had the worse digestive troubles and been starving all the time. And the wind, i was almost banished to the garden.

I am only 2 days in but feeling better already, still having a few carb cravings but drowning them with water. I havent weighed myself but my jeans are tight again. Prob is, i have a couple of nights/meals out in the next 10 days (dont get out often) but i am going to try and LC as i see this as a way of life so this is my learning experiment to make it fit into my forever approach to eating.

Sass, i have been trawling through all your links on another thread and its all very interesting, thanks.

Off for more water!

Morning lovelies Smile

Not a bad day yesterday, a bit cheesy and too many nuts hoovered whilst pondering life and my social responsibility to kill the rats in my garden. (I know they are vermin but in my mind I can only see ratatoui)

Today will be better!
B. Eggs of some kind.
L. Salad
D. Fish stew.
S. Yoghurt.

Here you are!!!

Morning all. Hope everyone had a nice Easter. Sorry i dropped off radar. Was particularly difficult at pils this weekend. I had to eat carbs when there as it was just too difficult not to and i didn't want to cause any more fuss or make it about me. So i just tried my best and ate what i could.

Anyway, back home now and back on BC i think for a couple of weeks. Totm so feeling grotty. Also felt so hungry last night i was feeling very faint and unwell which i haven't for a while so i blame the cheese sandwich and donut i ate at the service station for breakfast/lunch.

Going to go shopping and stock up on LC food today.

Thanks Gcalgske for your fab suggestions! I've actually made potato/mackerel dauphinoise before but forgot about that - i have the mackerel and bay leaves i just need the celeriac so will get some on way home tonight and that'll be my dinner, perfect, thank you. Flowers

Ok am still a learning newbie so bear with me (grrrowl) but I'll list my planned food for the day here and PLEASE someone say if you think I've got it wrong:

B: 3x scrambled eggs with butter, parma ham, one slice edam
L: Ham, broccoli, salad leaves, cucumber, olive oil dressing
S: Full Fat yoghurt (after much perusing the aisles I bought the full fat Tesco own yoghurt, it looks like its got some sugar in though but is higher fat than the lower sugar Onken I saw, I didn't really know which one to pick so just went for the cheapest Blush - what's the best yoghurt??
D: Probably the mackerel/celeriac/double cream bake.

I've had one cup of tea with milk, the rest of today I'll have water (one pint down already) and black/camomile/green.

Does that sound ok?

Babs Greek full fat yoghurt is really tasty and lower in carbs.
The lidl one is a bargain but comes in big tubs so is easy for me to over indulge. Grin 4g of carbs per 100g of product is a good benchmark afaik!

almahart · 08/04/2015 10:18

Full fat Total and Onken seem to be the lowest carb. They should have their carb count on the label

babs if I can't get to Lidl I just buy the Tesco or Sainsburys own brand Greek style (ff) yogurt. I'm not sure but I think it might be called "Greek style" because it is only Greek if its made in Greece? Not sure, just a guess. I think the Lidl one actually says "Turkish".

Yep, your menu today sounds good. Quite a big breakfast but its all fine, you will find as time goes on you will become less hungry on this WOE so might not need big meals. Sometimes I just have coffee which was unimaginable before I started this WOE.

I'm currently on my 2nd breakfast! I rode early this morning, it was a glorious morning, and I am hungry again now.

blessed hello, not sure who you were on BC but welcome back. If you've got lots of meals out and you know where you are going why not look at the menus before hand and plan what you might have. I sometimes do that and I plan for substitutions. Some people, including me, find it hard to ask for menu changes so I like to prepare myself. I look a the menu and practice asking for "more veg and no potatoes" and "a black coffee with some cream, please". It get easier and I've never had anyone refuse (sometimes they don't have cream so I just have it black.

You can have coffee with cream or the cheese board (ask for no crackers) while the others are having dessert.

Hello again ready I've got a question for you, do you go to the gym in Peebles? What is it like? I am aiming to have my PhD done (submitted, not viva) by the end of this month. That would give me a month "free" until I start a post-doc (fingers crossed) I thought I might join the gym and really go for it with regard to fitness etc.

I am tempted, if I have enough money, to join the hydro gym as I really like the pool there but I imagine that the Gytes is much much cheaper!!

Well done on the run trash I'm quite glad I have a sick note from the physio telling me not to run!! Just realised that I've not heard back from that riding place we were going to try....

I failed miserably on bootcamp...lots of family stuff going on and hospital visits etc
I have had good success before following John briffa (boot camp light I guess) and intend to again.
I would like to lose a stone to get me to 9.5 stone.
So today...
An apple - not ideal but wasn't really hungry.
Just about to have some spinach, pea and cream soup
Dinner will be fish and veg
I have panCotta (baked cream) for desert
Just need to get some nuts!
I drink water and herbal tea anyway.
Is that enough fat for low carb?

Report
BIWI · 08/04/2015 11:03

Babs - if you're in a Tesco Express (or a Sainsbury's Local) you'll find it virtually impossible to buy full fat anything. And they don't stock Total full fat yoghurt.

But if you can only buy the 0% fat one, buy some double cream and mix a good tablespoon into the yoghurt. It makes it a much nicer texture as well as giving you the fat.

Baddz - step away from the apple! If you weren't hungry, why eat an apple? You would have better off with a chunk of cheese.

Similarly the pea soup will be way too carby.

And is there sugar in the panacotta?

Sounds like it's too carby never mind not enough fat Grin
