Ok, some of us (me) didn't do very well on the real actual BC and some others just feel the need to have a little extra push before the next real BC so this is our inbetween BC BC Grin

I'll start, I'm currently 222 lb and want to be 217 lb by the start of the real BC (11th May). I will be recording my food daily to keep on track, I am also going to weigh daily.

Food

B: Flax wrap with butter, coffee with cream
L: M&S salad, ff yog
S: S&V peanuts (none left now so I'll have normal nuts or none at all)
D: Cauli-rice with hot smoked salmon

I am allergic to cheese...and yoghurt:(
I should have had eggs for breakfast but just couldn't face them this morning...
I feel so much better when I don't eat gluten. I am pretty sure I am intolerant (mum has coeliac)
Are peas very carby? Oh dear.
I do love pea soup :)
Which soups are the best carb wise then?
PannCotta is baked cream with berry Compote on top, and berries are ok on briffa.
Are there any low Carb ice creams? (I only really like vanilla)
I cook with oil and butter anyway.

3 litres of water a day is my aim.

Badz - berries may be ok, but a compote is likely to have sugar in it. As will the pannacotta.

You need to look at the carb counter on the spreadsheet to see the list of veg.

Report
Baddz · 08/04/2015 12:45

Just looked at the soup and my serving was approx 13g carbs.
Is that too much?

It depends what else you're eating today!

But yes, it's on the high side.

What kind of plan are you following? Are you doing Bootcamp, another plan or just your own thing?

Am Following briffa (which allows apples and other fruit occasionally)
I guess it's boot camp light?
I am planning baked fish and veg for dinner later.

Hello there, can I join in? I only started Monday, following BiWi's bootcamp rules (I hope). I'm 13st and really need to try and lose something before holidays end of May.

Today's food so far:

B: 1 egg, scrambled with butter & a dash of double cream, 2 low carb rashers of bacon, a small bowl of Total Greek Yoghurt and a handful of raspberries.

L: Medium size plate of salad leaves, half an avocado, 2 babybels, some parma and Serrano ham (both showed low in carbs on the packet?) and a dollop of Heinz Mayo.

D: Will be Salmon Fillet baked in foil with butter on a bed of stir fry veg.

So far I've drunk 2L of water, more to come.

Can anyone tell me if I'm kind of on the right track?

Many thanks

Welcome mini!

Food looks fine - but if it's Bootcamp you shouldn't be having berries for the first couple of weeks.

Check how many carbs are in the mayo - some brands are higher than others.

Make sure you're getting plenty of fat - especially if you're cooking things like fish which generally are lower in fat. Add butter, put oily dressings on your salad and add a generous dollop of (low carb) mayo.

Try and avoid too much processed food - today you've had bacon, Parma and Serrano ham.

But apart from that - looks good. Good luck! Flowers

So, I'm 149. Seriously back on it!

Sayra, I don't use the gym in Peebles but go to a personal trainer in west linton. He's really good and not too pricey if you can get someone to go with you. I'll pm his details if you like?
I've also heard that the barony castle isn't that expensive, cheaper and nicer than the hydro. Apparently it's all been recently done up.

Food today
B - raw mushrooms, coffee with cream
L - tuna mayo salad with lidl coleslaw and chilli olive oil
D - pork loin steak with mashed swede I think although that may change.

So far I've drank 3 1/2 pints of water. Need more though.

Can anyone remind me how to make mayo easily? I've just looked at a recipe and it's a bit of a faff and i seem to remember someone saying they make theirs with a stick blender.

Also is there any recommendations for the most definitive/accurate list of carb count in fruit and veg and generally everything? I've looked online and it's a bit conflicting.

Oh and i made my first hard boiled eggs the other day and when i cracked them open the yolks were still runny. AAaaaargh. I put them in the water cold then timed 8 mins from boiling (which i read on the delia how to boil an egg 'recipe') it's pathetic i know, but why can't i just boil a frigging egg?

Hi! Can I join in? I'm a complete bootcamp novice but have had lots of brilliant advice from BIWI and StuntNun on another thread in chat. I've started this morning:

B - Streaky bacon, 2 scrambled eggs and wilted kale cooked in the bacon fat and butter. Coffee with cream.

S - Pepperami mini

L - Corned beef, mixed leaves, cucumber, celery, shallot and 1/2 a tomato ( I weigh the tom it was 60g) and 1/2 avocado. A dollop of mayo.

S - I was lurking around when I got in from work feeling like I wanted something sweet. So I had the other half of avocado. Seems to have done the trick.

I have somehow managed to get just over 2L of water down already Confused.

D - Planning on cooking the Butter Chicken from IPD cookbook.

Does that look along the right lines?

What is the opinion on using extra virgin cold pressed rapeseed oil as a salad dressing? Not good? And is it possible to overdo the mayo? I did have 2 tbsps on my lunch. I used shop bought today but will make my own later this evening.

It feels slightly odd to not feel a niggling hunger or to feel completely washed out by this time of day. I take that is a good sign!

Koala are your eggs out of the fridge?

I put mine into boiling water and time 10 mins for hard boiled and that's from room temp so would assume from fridge it would be even longer :)

Report
BIWI · 08/04/2015 15:14

That looks fine - but keep an eye on the amount of processed meat you've got there - bacon, pepperoni and corned beef.

I believe rapeseed oil is supposed to be good for you, but I know not why now - but any good oil on your salad is a very good thing! I love the taste of extra virgin olive oil, so that's the one I use. And don't worry about overdoing the mayo - but do check the carb count as they vary. If you use home-made then the carb count will be pretty much zero.

And not feeling hungry is a very good sign!

MrsKoala - go to the spreadsheet and check the tabs at the bottom. There's a veg carb counter there. How have you managed all this time without it? Grin

Do you keep your eggs in the fridge, MrsK? That might be one reason why they weren't cooked properly.

I keep mine on the side. To make hard boiled eggs, put the eggs in a pan and cover them with cold water. On a medium to high heat, bring the water to the boil and once it's reached boiling point, time from there for 8-10 minutes.

Thanks BIWI! I got a bit overexcited about being able to eat that sort of thing Blush. I'll use up the rapeseed oil that I have. I think it's supposed to be good for you as it's lower in saturated fat than olive oil. But I wasn't sure if that was ok on low carb? It's high in omega 3 but also high in omega 6. Can you tell I've been reading 'The Diet Trap'?

Report
MrsKoala · 08/04/2015 15:22

No i never keep eggs in the fridge. I do buy large eggs tho. I am just ridiculously shit at boiling eggs. Confused how is that even possible?

I did look at the carb counter BIWI, but admittedly only briefly Blush . I just made a mental note of the lowest ones and then stuck to them for BC. WHat i'm after is carb counts in everything, so things like mango, porridge oats etc. I know they aren't LC, but i am hoping that when i am on maintenance and in a tricky spot i can make as best choice as possible and allow myself planned cheats if i can then compensate the next day.

Like Heman I also don't feel hungry, this is usually my danger time. I do feel quite...strange though, not quite right, can't put my finger on exactly why. I do have a little cold and hayfever, but I feel quite spaced out and dazed. Is this normal? I wasn't planning on having any more today but just had another cup of tea with a splash of milk - how bad is the milk?

mrsk do you have a steaming basket?

I used to have varying results with boiled eggs: runny when I wanted them hard, hard when I wanted them runny then I stumbled upon steaming them instead which is way more reliable and no chance of cracking and making a mess in the pan

www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2014/04/steamed-hard-boiled-eggs-recipe.html

I keep mine in the fridge (as it is v hot in my kitchen at times) and do 7-8 minutes for perfectly sqidgy and 10 for hard boiled

The reasoning behind vegetable oils being bad for you is that too high a ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fats in our diets promotes inflammation. I know since I started this WOE my arthritic joint pain has cleared up, my eczema is less bad, my asthma has all but disappeared, my dust and pollen allergies are less serious and my gingivitis has settled down and the factor linking all those would be inflammation. That would also suggest that the polyunsaturated vegetable oils that have been promoted as heart healthy may actually be implicated in the development of heart disease.

This is one of the reasons why I like the paleo and primal viewpoints. It isn't just about what to eat for weight loss, it's what to eat and how to live your life for health as well. Compare that to Mosely's Fast Diet where it doesn't matter what you eat so long as it's only 500 calories two days a week. It might be a good way to lose weight but there's more needed to achieve good health.

Report
Preminstreltension · 08/04/2015 16:45

another stupid question but does olive oil count as vegetable oil? Or should I substitute for rapeseed oil for the lower inflammatory compounds?

Report
HemanOrSheRa · 08/04/2015 17:48

Olives are fruit so I guess the oil is a fruit oil? I would go for Olive Oil. Rapeseed oil is quite high in omega 6 which is the 'baddy' as I understand it with regard to inflammation. I'm sure someone with greater knowledge than me will give you the correct info!

I'm going to use up the rapeseed oil I have for dressings. Then move on to extra virgin olive oil. I know where the rapeseed oil has come from (a farmer local to my sister produces it) so it seems a shame to waste it!
