Ok, some of us (me) didn't do very well on the real actual BC and some others just feel the need to have a little extra push before the next real BC so this is our inbetween BC BC Grin

I'll start, I'm currently 222 lb and want to be 217 lb by the start of the real BC (11th May). I will be recording my food daily to keep on track, I am also going to weigh daily.

Food

B: Flax wrap with butter, coffee with cream
L: M&S salad, ff yog
S: S&V peanuts (none left now so I'll have normal nuts or none at all)
D: Cauli-rice with hot smoked salmon

Just to echo stuntnun when I first started on bc I had a few weeks of snacking on pork scratchings and I'm convinced they helped my weight loss. Pure fat. I lost about ten ibs in the first fortnight iirc. Can't bear the sight of them now mind!

Thanks, ladiesFlowers

I am getting ready to go out with DC; so will reply properly to your helpful comments later. Really appreciate them.

This morning, I have had two eggs, spinach and cheese in an omelette made in coconut oil. Hopefully better?

The flaxseed was to cope with the bungsBlush I have left it out as I already wondered about it triggering carb cravings.

Am going to monitor day in line with adviceFlowers

Really?
Mocha has sugar in?
Hmm
Can't drink it black. Ew.
Will have to be a cappuccino then....
Not ideal but better than chicken nuggets :)

Mcdonalds will happily do you a burger without the bun, if you feel you should have 'something'?

I'm on strict bootcamp for a bit. Starting with a large bpc for breakfast!!

Tbh I'm not a Big McDonald's fan
Just checked online and apparently a lAtte has no carbs and a cappucino has 10g!!
So latte is is!

How can a latte have none when it is more milk than a cappuccino (mcds latte is 1/3 espresso, 2/3 milk, cappuccino is 1/3 espresso, 1/3 milk, 1/3 froth??? Yes, i remember random crap like that Grin )

No idea!
Seems wrong doesn't it?

Report
BIWI · 09/04/2015 09:33

No to the cappuccino as well! It will be too carby.

And a latte will have to have carbs in it with all that milk!!!

Baddz

Ok...another day another try!
Have just had 3 eggs scrambled with butter.

Perfect!

I'm going to finish to the soup from yesterday as it's yummy and I won't throw it away

Just remember for next time - always check the carb counts on pre-prepared foods, and/or make sure you know the carb counts of things you're cooking with

Am going to macdonalds with the kids and am planning on a drink - would a mocha be best with cream in?

Ordinary coffee with a splash of milk (probably called an Americano - or just ask for filter coffee) would be much better

The. Ham salad for tea.
Enough fat?
Am planning on Mayo, coleslaw etc with the salad.

Do you know the carb count of your mayo? Are you putting an oily dressing on your salad as well? Have you checked the carb count of your coleslaw - it can be VERY carby if you're not careful

Need to plan better shopping wise.
Must buy some nuts today!

Yes! Meal and food planning is key to success on this WOE so you don't accidentally add too many carbs to your meals.

Nuts aren't compulsory you know! In fact, they can be quite dangerous as it's so easy to eat too many of them

Report
Baddz · 09/04/2015 09:33

Hang on...its a misprint.
On the line below its says 14g!

Report
Baddz · 09/04/2015 09:38

Americano it is :)
No idea re carbs in Mayo...I just assumed it was all fat!
I stuggle with snacks as I can't eat cheese or yoghurt :(
On briffa you are allowed the odd bit of dark choc but I think that's too dangerous for me.
I like nuts but no so much I would eat loads iyswim?
What is the total amount of carbs I should be aiming for per day?
Have already had a herbal tea and 2 glasses of water already this morning.
I might grab some cream and do berries and cream for desert later.

day 3 now - still using mfp for carb counting now just to make sure - apparently yesterday i had only 16g of carbs.

looking back comparing that to the 150g daily average i'd say im not doing too badly :)

tea last night was steak fried in butter, then mange tout cooked in the butter and steak fat.

mushroom, full fat cream and veg stock sauce on the side.

B today - babybel and a pepperami (in a massive rush)

so far had 2 cups of black tea, 1 litre of water and a handful of walnuts.

already feeling less bloated, and not really feeling the exhaustion which other people have spoken about.

I do wonder how much exercise I should be doing, work in an office 8 hours a day with an average of only 2000 steps a day :( have an exercise bike so wondering if say 10km a day on that might bring up my fitness levels too?!

I've spent the last 4 years being so lazy, its terrible :(

Report
Baddz · 09/04/2015 09:40

Mfp?
Does that count your carbs then?

Report
BIWI · 09/04/2015 09:43

It does - but beware as it's not always terribly accurate.

In terms of the daily level of carbs, there really isn't a particular answer to this, unless you're following a specific plan. If you're following Briffa, does he not give a daily amount? One word of caution from everything I've read on the boards over the various Bootcamps/low carb threads - Briffa's plan seems to suit people who are more interested in maintenance or just a longer term health more than it does actual weight loss, so I suspect he may suggest a higher level of carbs daily.

The difficulty with carbs is that we're all different in terms of what we can tolerate. Some people have to keep their carbs really low to lose, others can have more and still lose. You need to find your own level, I'm afraid.

BIWI · 09/04/2015 09:48

babygiraffes

You need to make sure that you're getting carbs from veg and salad - if you're down at only 16g, that's really low. Are you eating veg and salad with lunch and dinner?

Re exercise, any will help - especially if you're so sedentary. But just beware that at this stage of low carbing you may find your energy levels are relatively low, so don't rush in and try to run a half marathon. Be a bit kinder to yourself!

Morning chaps

I weighed myself this morning, I am sure I’ve put on a few lbs, is this normal in the first few days? Will continue with it so hopefully it will start going down soon.

Dinner last night was delicious. I was going to do a celeriac and mackerel gratin but couldn’t fine celeriac – so used swede!! It was perfectly fine and same carb count as celeriac. I had thinly sliced swede, courgette, leeks and mackerel, covered in cream and grated cheddar and baked for 35 mins. Was ace.

Today’s menu plan:

B: 3x scrambled eggs and parma ham
L: Sliced beef, salad leaves and cucumber with olive oil dressing
D: not sure yet

I am meant to be going out for drinks tonight – which is the best drink to have? I know bootcamp is meant to be no alcohol but can I have one alcoholic drink and the rest soft? What are good options?

Thankyou BIWI - I've spent some time reading up on your threads - and trying to get out of the mindset that fat is bad. We have been so conditioned to believe that full fat anything is terrible and its a difficult one to try and get away from.

I don't know if the 16g as you said is terribly accurate,I also input lunch yesterday which was tuna with lemon and black pepper, lettuce, cucumber, celery and 2 picolo tomatoes. I think its more just to make sure that I can see on the ratios that my carb count isn't the 75% of my diet it once was which makes me feel like i'm getting somewhere :)

I don't plan to go over the top, but the exercise bike keeps giving me the evil eye so figured a steady jaunt might make me feel a bit better and stop it torturing me :)

Baddz crispy chicken and bacon salad is the best low carb option in McDs if you fancy something to eat in there. I used to sneak my own vinaigrette in but now I just have their Caesar dressing. Americano is the lowest carb coffee.

I will just have a drink at macs. But thank you :)
Am off to the co op to stock up on salad etc
Are cocktail sausages ok to snack on?
What about rice?

Report
BabsUnited · 09/04/2015 10:33

I think rice is a definite no-no Badz sorry!

Report
SayraT · 09/04/2015 10:42

Rice definitely not. Have you read the rules baddz I think I posted a link in the OP.

No pasta, rice, bread, fruit, pulses, grains, potatoes, sugar.

Cocktail sausages may be ok but may not be. Check the carb count, on BC we are trying to avoid processed foods as well so limit bacon, sausages etc.

Hello all, having read BiWi's helpful comments on y'days food I've tried to mix it up a little, any advice would be gratefully received. I'm struggling to buy Coconut Oil too as my Asda don't stock it. Where do people buy it please?

B: 2 bacon rashers cooked in butter with scrambled eggs made with double cream, small bowl of Total Full Fat Greek Yoghurt;

L: will be chicken breast with skin, on a bed of salad leaves, with half an Avocado and some mayo (need to get a dressing of some kind for the salad, suggestions?)

D: will be a pork chop cooked in butter or Coconut Oil if I can find it, and green beans cooked in the residue from the pork chop.

Lots of water, a couple of babybel snacks and that'll probably be me today.

Cheers

Best to make your own dressing - and really easy!

5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (or 3 if you like your dressing a bit more vinegary)
1 tablespoon wine vinegar (not balsamic as it's too carby)
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Shake/whisk together, and that's it.

If you like, you can add a teaspoon of Dijon or wholegrain mustard, or some finely chopped shallot, or garlic.

@Baddz, I know some people don't like it, but maybe MFP might be a good idea for you, so you can check the carb count of the things you're planning on eating.

It'll give you a nice diagram of your split and helps me with planning my meals in advance. Today I'll get around 30g of carbs from leeks, tomatoes, celery, natural yogurt and shallots.
