The inbetween BC BC for those who didn't do as well as they should on the real BC

999 replies

SayraT · 06/04/2015 18:41

Ok, some of us (me) didn't do very well on the real actual BC and some others just feel the need to have a little extra push before the next real BC so this is our inbetween BC BC Grin

I'll start, I'm currently 222 lb and want to be 217 lb by the start of the real BC (11th May). I will be recording my food daily to keep on track, I am also going to weigh daily.

Food

B: Flax wrap with butter, coffee with cream
L: M&S salad, ff yog
S: S&V peanuts (none left now so I'll have normal nuts or none at all)
D: Cauli-rice with hot smoked salmon

late home for tea tonight so made a quick stir fry type thing with diced chicken, peppers, onion and mushrooms all fried in butter, then added a splash of veg stock and lashings of double cream. reduced until thick and grated parmesan cheese on the top -yum :-)
it used to be my go to pasta sauce but, as I've just found, it's more than filling enough without the pasta :-)

SayraT · 13/04/2015 20:17

mini it depends how much pate you eat Grin (phone does accents automatically but laptop doesn't!) 2.6g/100g is fine, if you aim for less than 4g/100g for most things though it does depend on what you are eating.

For example some things will be really high per 100g like garlic at 33g/100g but it is unlikely that you would have 100g of garlic you would just have a small amount. Likewise something lower in carbs like nuts (brazil nuts are 12g/100g) it would be easy to eat too many of these. This is why nuts are limited on BC, here is the link to The Rules in case anyone missed them in the OP. This will give you the basics.

Thank you SayraT, very helpful.

HemanOrSheRa · 13/04/2015 20:30

CharlieSierra that was me! Glad you liked it, delicious isn't it? The Thai Meatballs are good too.

Talking of holidays, there was I thinking I have plenty of time to lose weight and trim up for a family wedding in September, I completely forgot - family holiday. Cornwall. End of May. Me in a wetsuit Confused.

Romeyroo · 13/04/2015 20:33

Natural, you weren't moaning - I wish even a little carby stuff would not effect me, but it does. That said, now I know anything which is not BC low carb or BCL low carb will set me off, I feel a bit more confident (sort of) about keeping the weight I have lost off. These threads are great for making me notice carb creep

B two eggs scrambled with coconut milk and courgette
L three meatballs; hb egg and salami
S cucumber and Mayo (one of my favourite new snacks, though Mayo is another thing which has widely varying amounts of sugar, need to try making my own)
D courgetti and sausages with a small amount of tomato sauce made with passata

not a soya latte in sight ShockGrin

Romeyroo · 13/04/2015 20:34

Need to go shopping, hence the reliance on courgette!!

ijustwanttobeme · 13/04/2015 21:15

nappy I'm a titchy 4' 11, so although my weight doesn't sound a lot to some, it is for me. Am being realistic though, I don't want to be 7 stone or anything like that.

Anyway food intake today:

B: coffee with cream x2
L: ham and cheese salad
D: tuna mayo salad
S: a cup of tea and an almond biscuit

I had a jawbone up24, which tracked my food (linked to mfp), exercise and sleep. Bastard thing has just stopped working today, so I have to be on my toes as I referred to that all the time before to keep me on track. I know Biwi said not to track calories and I dont, but mfp was good for logging all my food for the day just to keep an eye.

At a roadshow thing with work tomorrow, so must remember to eat my lunch before I go, or else I'll get there famished and want to devour iscuits and cake. I have to wean myself off the biccies again - really have taken a step backwards over the past month or so.

Righto talks sternly to myselfIm going to do this. I can beat the carb cravings and I will lose more weight and get fitter again.

ijustwanttobeme · 13/04/2015 21:17

strikeout fail

Gcalgske · 13/04/2015 21:18

Today's food:
B: BPC
L: 100g smoked salmon, small avocado in faux pizza express dressing, slivers of shallot. Served with cucumber slices as sort of crackers, was bloody lovely.
D: 2 chicken thighs roasted in olive oil served with tomato, shallot and mixed leaf salad in hm olive oil dressing, spinach wilted with un flavoured coconut oil.

beerbelly · 13/04/2015 21:19

Ladies, my commitment is wobbling... I am on day 7 and have kept my carbs low (below 30g) and my fats high every day. But I have not lost anything (in fact, may have gained a couple of pounds - our scales are a bit dodgy!)

I have exercised every day, alternating between workout DVDs, running or brisk walking (can't believe how much harder running up hill has become since starting the diet!) so my net calories have been somewhere around 1500.

I did have a couple of evenings out and drank wine, but have read that dry white wine is low carb.

What is going wrong? Did anyone else take over a week to lose anything?

readyforno2 · 13/04/2015 21:22

Thanks Sayra, got some in the freezer, gonna have them for dinner tomorrow. Did you manage to look him up? He's really good.

Food today
B coffee with cream
L burger (from butcher) with cheese and salad and a portobello mushroom
D 2 chicken thighs with butternut squash roast with garlic, sage and salt with cream poured over the top. It was amazing. Was originally going to use turnip but didn't have any and couldn't be arsed going to the shop.

Gcalgske · 13/04/2015 21:23

Sayra Brazil nuts are 12g/100g? I could greet! I always thought they were one of the lowest. My bag (Tesco wholefoods) says 4.8g and I've just had 50g as a snack. :(

SayraT · 13/04/2015 21:29

beer lots of people find exercising harder when they first move over onto LCing but once you are properly fat adapted you should have endless energy.

Drinking wine could be a problem, alcohol is an easy fuel for your body to use and if it is burning alcohol then it is not burning fat. The BC rules suggest avoiding alcohol for the first 2 weeks, this helps to kickstart your body into fat burning mode.

You say you have kept your carbs below 30g every day, was that even when you drank wine? A quick google tells me that a dry white wine is approx. 3-4g carbs per 125ml glass.

Why don't you list out your meals for the past few days and we can see if there is anything obvious we can help you with.

And, yes, on the 2014 January BC trash didn't lose anything for the first 6 weeks and it has happened to other posters as well, I just can't remember who!

OP posts:
SayraT · 13/04/2015 21:35

Well, go with what your packet says Gcalske I was just trying to find an example of a LC thing that could easily add up if you ate more than 100g of it compared with a high carb thing you only ate a tiny amount of.

Just checked on Tesco and this is what I have for nuts:

Brazil = 4.8g/100g
Almonds = 9.5g/100g
Peanuts = 10.4g/100g
Macadamia = 4.2g/100g
Cashew = 26.9g/100g
Pistachio = 12.3g/100g

Sorry for being lazy earlier Blush

nappy I really feel your pain, when hubs and I were first trying they (GP) said the same about waiting a year but when I had an ovarian scan I was told by the reproductive specialist nurse that because my ovaries are cystic there was little point in our trying by ourselves. In reality we had been together for 7 years and had an active sex life and never used contraception so really we HAD been trying (just not documenting it). We needed help (even if it was only advice and the dieticians in the end - we naturally fell preggo in the March 2012 - after losing 4 stones - and were due to start IVF in the May). Could be worth pushing to see someone for your cysts? I think that you have done the right thing though being proactive yourself. Low carb, grain free eating is so beneficial for your health in so many respects, anti inflammatory etc. it really stabilised my cycle as well as healing the cysts (there must have been a relationship in there). Have you tried the ovulation tests? Clear blue do one which helps you monitor your cycle, thermometer worked for lots of my friends but I never tried it.

Gcalgske · 13/04/2015 21:38

Phew! Don't worry Sayra I'm just a panic merchant! Thanks for checking xxxxxx

DarkEvilMoon · 13/04/2015 21:46

still struggling to eat 3 meals, still struggling to eat veg. Hard day after a bad night and worries about ds' health. He has to have bread home made I dropped the bloody loaf when turning it half way through. I nearly cried. Thankfully ds cares little about the look. Hoping for a good night sleep but as ds is struggling to breathe (asthma and hayfever combo) it is not looking good.
Sometimes i wish there was a magic wand that fixes disordered eating habits.

nappyaddict · 13/04/2015 21:51

SayraT how many fried eggs do you have for breakfast and do you have anything with them? What do you cook them in?

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2015 21:57

Heman & Sayra I've been having odd dreams since starting low carbing too, the sort of vivid dreams you remember for days. I was interested to hear that's common.

Today's food intake has been better apart from the protein shake, which has been donated to DS who does weights. According to MFP I'm OK on the fat & protein, and if I hadn't had the protein shake I'd have been on target with the carbs.

I decided to get some ketostix to see if I was in ketosis & burning fat, and I am. I thought I must be burning fat because my shape has definitely changed, but as I've said that's not yet being reflected on the scales. I'm glad to hear that others haven't lost weight in the first few weeks, that's reassuring.

Tonight's dinner was yummy - parmesan chicken nuggets from the recipe thread, with a handful of young spinach leaves & cauliflower mash.

SayraT · 13/04/2015 21:59

nappy I had two (normally 1 or two eggs for breakfast each day) and I fried them in butter.

Sometimes I fry them in coconut oil or duck fat. Other ways I have eggs include: scrambled (with butter), in a cup (chopped up with butter), poached (with butter on top) or boiled...no butter Sad

Sorry to hear you are not having a good day dark Flowers would it help if you didn't worry about the number of meals you are eating? Once you've been LCing for a while its fine to drop a meal. If its less stressful for you then why not just have coffee/tea in the morning and concentrate on the other two meals.

Sorry about your DS, hope he is feeling better soon.

What is the problem with veg? Can we help in anyway? Are you stuck with using the same veg all the time, is it the time to prepare it, you don't like it or something else?

If I don't reply until the morning I am not ignoring anyone I just feel and bit rubbish so I'm off to bed to have an early night. Will be back in the morning.

nappyaddict · 13/04/2015 22:11

SayraT do you have 2 if you have poached, scrambled or boiled as well? I don't think that would fill me up on it's own Blush

DarkEvilMoon · 13/04/2015 22:23

Thing is i need to eat 3 meals because if i don't i am much more likely to cheat and I have history for surviving on just a chocolate bar. Food avoider. Veg is the first thing that i drop when I start skipping food. My main focus is to get a more normal eating pattern and eat veg, slightly different from those with weight loss. This woe does help me with this goal but it is an ongoing struggle and success is fluctuating. But that is why I am here Grin There are big sticks floating about which remind me to attempt to stay on track. My issue with veg is that modern varieties are watery, flavourless and tendency towards excessively bitter. I was spoilt with old fashioned allotment veg as a child. Can't disguise or flavour with garlic or spices as these are on my banned food list. Mostly though I am making excuses to justify my food is too much effort, don't want to eat it is a sign of weakness train of thoughts tendencies.

Breakfast is ok, getting really good at eating this, tea is generally ok (except on days when out at tea time when the balance is a bit harder) Lunchtime is my big issue. I am hungry but I am also stubborn. Hmm Will ponder on this there are factors like losing track of time, and a few other bits and bobs that can be tweaked.

DarkEvilMoon · 13/04/2015 22:27

nappy 2 eggs scrambled is quite filling if you add some cream to the beaten eggs and then cook in lots of butter. surprisingly so.

Gcalgske · 13/04/2015 22:31

Dark can you find a farmers market even grow a bit yourself to get better tasting veg? I had a single courgette plant last year that produced 35 of the blighters!

beerbelly · 13/04/2015 22:32

Thanks Sayra. Don't want to bore you with everything I ate but, as an example on Friday:
B: Two eggs and three rashers of bacon
L: Cubes of avocado, cudes of cheese and smoked salmon
D: Chilli con carne with cheese on top
Plus four glasses of dry white wine with soda water.

Is that really bad? Sorry for not following the rules - couldn't open the link!

The annoying thing is, I am really not tempted by carbs or sugar and the food suits me. As I said to DH the other day - the only problem with this diet is that I am not losing weight!
