Morning campers!

You know the drill! Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for your delectation

So week 3 is fairly typically a bit of a bastard. And I'm afraid to have to tell you all that week 4 is sometimes its best friend.

Don't panic if the scales aren't moving, or even if you're seeing a slight increase. This is totally totally normal for this period of time

Keep focused, make sure you're following the rules - particularly eating the fat and drinking the water - and things should get going again shortly.

If you're struggling, post here rather than dive into the biscuit tin!

Good luck everyone

Supportive fist bump to all those for whom progress is painfully slow. I'm the same at the moment. BUT I'm not giving up till I can get these thighs into my size ten jeans, as God is my witness

Fauxbourdons · 10/02/2015 12:51

Hello - newbie here, just dipping my toe into the world of low-carbing. I'm on day 4 and still getting used to it but have mainly (I don't eat meat) eaten frittata, salmon and avocado, a spinach Thing that's the inside of Greek spinach pie. I've just made a cauliflower pasanda from a recipe someone posted on the recipes thread - very nice - I added spinach to the helping I've just had.

Probably eating too much dairy but I will see what the scales tell me. I have a long way to go, so hopefully slow and steady will be OK.

One big challenge is that before I decided to do this I offered to make cakes for a Friday charity bake sale. So on Thursday I will be making cakes without eating any of them. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Must make sure I'm full of something yummy before I start cooking!

readyforno2 · 10/02/2015 12:53

Thanks sayra, I'll let you know his the class goes. I've no space for a pole, unless I rearrange my bedroom again to fit it back in... Hmmm...

Pisseslikeahorse · 10/02/2015 13:03

I've realised that i've gone back to an old habit of nibbling cheese all the time, and even if I'm still within my fat / protein / carb ratio its not doing me allot of good. Added to the horrid effect of a weekend of indulgence I'm back up 2kg.
thats up 2kg on a week where I ran 47K (3800cals). So I think i've got some tweaking to do Grin

b. bpc
l. bacon 3 eggs mushrooms mayo
d. fish spinach thingy ?

Notso · 10/02/2015 13:33

Hello everyone

tartiflette I made the fakeaway donner last night. I used a hairy bikers recipe changed a bit. I used 2packs of lamb mince, 4 large shallots, garlic clove, half a chilli, tbsp cumin, tbsp ground coriander, salt and pepper. Blend until smooth (I had to do it a bit a time)
Roll between cling film ands hen ready fry in coconut oil until brown and crispy on the outside.
This made 10 kebab portions (there's 6 of us and DH and I had 2 plus 2 left over for my lunches)
They were delicious, DC loved them. I served there's in a pitta, we all had salad and garlic mayo too.

Hello Fauxbordons your inside of a spinach pie sounds lovely!

Interested to read about those low carbing for all the family. My DC eat way too much sugar, fruit included.
My two youngest are fussy atm and much of their diet is bread/pasta/rice with fruit/salad and limited meat/fish. I am serving things like salad with lasagne for example instead of garlic bread, and sausages with roast veg rather than mashed potatoes and Yorkshire pudding for example.

Notso · 10/02/2015 13:36

[shocked] at my use of there's not theirs. I swear I am loosing my ability to write after being a SAHM for 12 years out of the last 15.

Notso · 10/02/2015 13:38

Hmm smiley fail and spelled losing wrong.

MrsKoala · 10/02/2015 13:40

MrsS - When i had DS1 i actually put on weight when bfing Shock . I got cellulite on my arms and shins. My body seemed to store every ounce of fat it could. I wasn't eating cake or anything. I stopped when he was 8mo and by the time he was 10mo i was back to my pre baby size without any dieting. By the time he was 1 i was slimmer than i had been before (he walked at 9.5mo and i haven't really sat still since!).

Bird - I don't really cook meat like that and i'm thinking this may be where i'm going wrong. I'm still doing slow cook/roast/casserole type dinners rather than a nice fatty chop/steak/chicken stuffed with boursin wrapped in bacon etc and creamy sauces. I also am not doing currys as dh hates cauli rice and wants rice, naan breads and bhajis/samosas. Cauli rice fried in co oil sounds yum tho. :)

LexLoofah · 10/02/2015 13:47

BIWI thanks for the links, will be a massive climb down for Governments and their agencies if they ever do revise their model and guidelines however I suspect it will never come as agri business wields so much power.

Finished Gary Taubes' Why we get fat and what to do about it yesterday (I could not face reading his other thicker more technichal book as don't get a lot of reading time). Anyway it was very interesting and have highlighted several passages to go back and look at again.

Just sipping an experimental bulletproof chai tea as missing my second cuppa and not keen on coffee all that much and cream in tea is vile. It is hmmm 'interesting' definitely not as sweet as a BPC, maybe I made the tea too strong or added too much cinnamon as it is on the bitter side but it is warm and full of good fats so will finish it. Loving coconut oil in my herbal tea and hot marmite, tried it off the spoon but it is not for me. My neighbour does the oil pulling thing, no idea how she does not puke doing that.

Fauxbourdons · 10/02/2015 14:27

I've found lurking and reading everyone's success stories and challenges has really helped me to decide to give this WOE a try.

The spinach pie insides recipe (I really should try to think of a better name!)

Spinach pie insides - defrost the best part of a bag of frozen leaf spinach, and leave it in a sieve with a weight on it to drain.

Turn the drained spinach into a bowl. Crumble a pack of feta into it. Add about a teaspoon of fresh grated nutmeg, and some pepper (the feta's pretty salty already). Add a few chopped walnuts if you like them and they're not off the menu.

Beat up four eggs. Soften or melt about 2oz of butter and beat into the eggs. You could add some creme fraiche if you wanted.

Mix everything together thoroughly, turn into a square pan lined with greased foil, cook in a medium oven until solid and starting to brown on top.

This amount has so far made 4 meals and is still going strong (a veggie version of the legendary Mumsnet Chicken?).

Now I need to think of something to do with the 2 packs of Quorn mince that got delivered by mistake.

trashcanjunkie · 10/02/2015 14:38

What the actual fuck is oil pulling lex? That sounds grim! Grin

To the breastfeeders - I breastfed ds 2 and 3 (twins) and when they where born I was a skinny size eight (apart from mega jugs and my stomach, which did rapidly deflate) but then I too found it incredibly difficult to keep my weight down, and not to snack. The ironic thing was I had been doing Atkins for a year just before I fell pregnant, and had gone from a size eighteen, down to an eight, which I maintained without effort during the pregnancy. Year on year I put weight on (I extended bf until they self weaned at around three or four) and by then I had gone up to a size twelve. (Then other factors got involved and I ballooned to a size twenty)

I think the fact you are able to maintain weight, or even lose slowly when bf is something to salute. I'm a bf fan for many reasons, but weight loss was never one of them for me....

Mrsstevejones · 10/02/2015 14:38

Just back from soft play with knackered children and in my mission to eat more fat i had 2 bacon and 2 sausage for lunch with cheapo (sachets) mayo and 1 plum tomato - i do suspect the sausages were more filler than meat however.

2 BPCs for breakfast made with decaf. Feeling nicely full. I have lost the energy whoosh that this woe gave me and feeling tired even though the kids are sleeping well. Must start exercising, just cant be bothered!

I make BPC by adding 1tbsp of coconut oil to 25g of butter and blend with a cup of coffee using a stick blender. Yum but coconutty - someone recommended the KTC brand as less coconutty tasting.

trashcanjunkie · 10/02/2015 14:39

Were not where....

trashcanjunkie · 10/02/2015 14:41

Hi faux your spinach pie sounds lovely.

Right I should get off my arse too. I need to find the key to my bike lock.... I haven't ridden since the summer, so am buggered if I know where it is.

Mrsstevejones · 10/02/2015 14:43

i did oil pulling when my wisdom tooth played up and i get little abscesses and it worked a treat and its not as grim as it sounds. Basically gently swish a spoon full of coconut oil around your mouth for as long as poss and spit out. Then brush teeth. Supposed to whiten them as well, i never noticed that however.

LexLoofah · 10/02/2015 14:54

faux going to give your crustless spinach pie a go, sounds delish

trash yes as mrssteve said oil pulling is swishing coconut oil around your mouth but the recommend amount of time is 20 minutes and I could not do 20 seconds even, plus who has 20 minutes to do anything? Not saying it is not effective, just not for me. Anyway I am 40 and even after all my years of sugar eating do not have even one filling so think I will stick with brushing after every meal.

lurkingmurking · 10/02/2015 14:55

Faux that sounds delish!!

CharlieSierra · 10/02/2015 15:08

Earlier in the thread (yesterday I think), there was a link posted to the Keto Diet Blog - I put in my height, weight, age etc and it told me that for slow weight loss I need to eat 1180 calories - and then in what proportion of fat/protein/carbs. For fast or medium weight loss my calorie allowance was below 1000. If this is right, no wonder my weight is virtually stuck, that is a very low calorie diet - and only 80 calories from carbs, which would mean not much veg at all. I'm really wishing I hadn't looked, but on the other hand, I do want to lose the weight Confused

Fatstacks · 10/02/2015 15:23

Blimey CS I think I will swerve that site.

Being a seasoned dieter I can tell that my cauli cheese lunch has around 850 cals alone Shock

BIWI · 10/02/2015 15:28

Charlie - what levels did you put in then? Given that I'm (a lot) older than you, I should be consuming fewer calories - but my levels were 2143 for maintenance, 1858 for slow loss, 1716 for medium and 1574 for quick loss.

So

OP posts:
Amaxapax · 10/02/2015 15:35

I had similar, Charlie. It said that for fast weight loss I should be eating something like 850 calories per day. That seems...challenging.

nowitsenough · 10/02/2015 16:02

haven't had a chance to read through messages (these threads move too quickly!), just posting what I've eaten:

Breakfast: bacon and eggs
Lunch: salad with pate (low carb pate)
Dinner: will be something with mince (not feeling very inspired, it's very low fat mince unfortunately, so not sure what to do with it, might make burgers, but have no big mushrooms or similar to go with them ...)

tartiflette · 10/02/2015 16:22

Thanks for posting that Notso - am on it!
Loving also the inside of spinach pie thing. Great recipes everyone you're keeping me going!

Romeyroo · 10/02/2015 16:23

I am getting 100kcal of carbs a day for all my weight loss routes on the keto blog, the difference is in the fat. I have not counted or weighed anything so far food wise, but I am going to have a look at this to decide if it is worth doing so.

LexLoofah · 10/02/2015 17:47

B - 2 crispy prosciutto, 1 egg fried in butter, half avo, cuppa and a BP tea
L - Spinach, goats cheese, half a Spanish tapas meat platter from waitrose, olives, cucumber, fennel, celery
D - finally found some low carb sausages (0.5 carbs per 2 chipolatas, will have 4 of them - the ones I already had in the freezer were 8g per sausage!), buttery turnip mash, mushroom gravy, collard greens
