Week 4 - January Low Carb Bootcamp - KOKO!

Morning campers!

You know the drill! Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for your delectation

So week 3 is fairly typically a bit of a bastard. And I'm afraid to have to tell you all that week 4 is sometimes its best friend.

Don't panic if the scales aren't moving, or even if you're seeing a slight increase. This is totally totally normal for this period of time

Keep focused, make sure you're following the rules - particularly eating the fat and drinking the water - and things should get going again shortly.

If you're struggling, post here rather than dive into the biscuit tin!

Good luck everyone

Lots of interesting stuff on this thread.

I had a couple of glasses of red wine last night and it was nice but not amazing (which was good as id normally have a bottle easily). I was a wee bit naughty at pizza express and had tiramisu but only ate the cream/mascarpone mixture it was delicious!!

Today's plan:

B: 2 eggs scrambled, bacon, coffee w cream
L: fridge raid!
D: fillet steak with celeriac dauphinoise, asparagus and Parma ham. Yum!

Circuits class and a swim also done!

Romeyroo · 14/02/2015 12:51

Oh, Mrs K, that sounds hard, on top of everything else. DS would be bouncing off the walls with that, and DD who is not so sensitive to sugar probably too. Even XH who seems quite health conscious is low fat brainwashed and doesn't get that baked goods, unless wholemeal (and even then you need to check), are loaded with sugar.

CharlieSierra · 14/02/2015 13:14

I've lost a lb this morning, so whatever happens by Monday I'm claiming it! We are having M&S dine in for 2 tonight, DH just went for it whilst I was having a lovely facial which DD booked for me as a treat. He got the pate and the steak so it should be fine, the pudding he bought isn't tempting me in the slightest (lemon tart), but there is a small box of chocs.

I've had an absolutely shit week at work, and I'm having a quite serious stress response so happy to have kept to the plan over the past few days, apart from a slightly off piste lunch with my boss when we went to a conference on Wednesday, but we needed the 'bonding' time so it was worth it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Thumbwitch · 14/02/2015 14:50

MrsK - I see things haven't improved with your parents :(
Why are you staying with them so much, is it because your DH is away so much himself? So sorry that things aren't looking any better for you yet, KOKO and here's hoping that things start to look up soon. Thanks

Well I blew it all today - but only for breakfast. We went out to the early show at the cinema this morning, but for some reason the cinema had moved all the times back an hour just today (we nearly always go to the 9:30 or 9:40 showing) so we got there for 9:30 and it wasn't on til 10:30. So we went for breakfast at Max Brenner's Chocolate café Blush where I did make a feeble attempt to limit the carb/sugar intake by having a dark hot chocolate (lowest carb/sugar of them all) and a bald man truffle, which is largely cream/fat but still has too much sugar of course. I didn't eat all of it though, only half, then wrapped the rest up and brought it home for the boys. Saw Kingsman after that - very good film! Not sure the Aussies got all the references and in-jokes but I enjoyed it.

L - half a large buffalo mozzarella with cucumber, olives, fresh basil leaves and olive oil drizzle.
D - leftover turkey thing from the other day, with grated cheese and a Pimm; and cherries and cream to finish.

I might have to go back onto Bootcamp proper tomorrow to counter the effects of Bald Man Truffle today though.

Pisseslikeahorse · 14/02/2015 16:11

hi all,

not really been in the right place to post recently, been lurking whilst getting myself back into a decent rhythm and focusing on my exercise routine.
Sorry to read the bad news, take some time off and make it your own if you can, it really helps. Ive just had a morning off, dw let me have a lie in and then I was out for a 2hr run, Ive got home had some lunch and a little carb re-feed whilst watching a film with ds1... bliss Smile

One comment about age - ITS IRRELEVANT!!! unless you have a medical condition theres no reason that you metabolism or body should be functioning any differently that anyone else. So its not an excuse.

Im coming up to my first year on the LC and have record everything eaten as I've gone through, hopefully its going to be interesting when I put it all together fingers crossed

Oh and a little bit of non specific weight related thought, I went out running this morning weighing 95.2kg and came back 93.3kg. As DW just said over my shoulder "ugh yuck", but it goes to show that weighing is just a general guide and prone to all kinds of influences making it fluctuate. So take BIWI's advice and don't get too distracted by the scales they bloody lie

hope your all having a good day and your OHs have behaved themselves and served you well today, if not how about a bunch of bacon Grin

Week 4 - January Low Carb Bootcamp - KOKO!
Mrsstevejones · 14/02/2015 16:35

Just back from late lunch at an amazing rib place. I had a strawberry daquari yum and tomato and mozzarella salad - unfortunately it was smothered in balsamic so not such a good choice. Main course was griddled chicken, half a rack of ribs drizzled with bbq sauce, spiral fries ( i ate 5 was very smug), coleslaw which was yuck and salad. I only managed part of the chicken - overal not bad. I wont have dinner tonight and i intend on doing loads of dancing to burn off carbs.

That was an interesting video biwi - i saw a good one the other day called butter makes your pants fall off on youtube. The transformation in the bloke is outstanding, he looks so different and young now he is at a healthy weight - there is hope for me yet!!!

CharlieSierra · 14/02/2015 17:03

Nice bunch Pisses but on balance I'm happy with my white roses Grin

I think it was me who brought up the age thing, but not because I think it's an excuse, that Keto Diet blog had me at 1200 calories for slow weight loss because of my age/activity. I think the general consensus was it's a load of bollocks!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 14/02/2015 17:12

Lunch for me was chicken, avocado, olives, and mayo mixed with olive oil

Dinner is now 2 cheddar and spring onion sausages, green beans and baby corn, with celeriac and leek mash

Mrsstevejones · 14/02/2015 17:22

I owe everyone on here a huge thanks from hubby. Since i have started loosing weight hubby says i have my spark back. I have had my hair cut and gone blonde again(it looks amazing!) and i wore my first pair of size 16 jeans and a lush top. I am so much more confident and happy in myself even though i have lost less than a dress size. Sorry smugness over - i just needed to get it out. This is def improving our relationship. SO THANK YOU

Pisseslikeahorse · 14/02/2015 17:29

cool, thank for explaining Charlie - I keep on looking at the bacon, umm tasty bacon

I'm only touchy about age as I'm still young and not in anyway having issues with being middle aged old... ow grrr

And well done Mrsstevejones good for you

Mrsstevejones · 14/02/2015 17:49

Pisses took me ages to see the bacon - old eyes! Def better than the choc orange hubby got me! Dolove them though but will wait for bootcamp to be over and i NEVER thought i could exercise that level of self control - have been known to eat a whole one in a night and feel mighty sick afterwards!

Off to get ready, cheers all

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 14/02/2015 18:16

MrsK. Do you think this sugar free muffin will fool the little one?

They are low carb almond flour mini meals with protein and fat. So little one has 1 for lunch no problem.

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 14/02/2015 18:24

Thought occurred would green smoothie ice cubes or mini lollies help teething sugar addicted terrors. Get vitamins sweet taste but sugar free low carbing mum & dad gets a treat to.

Romeyroo · 14/02/2015 18:32

Okay, I appear to have a regularity problem recently, not sure why as have been low carbing since October.

I have some Fybogel in the cupboard, it apparently has 3.5g carbs, fibre not sugars- will that be okay? It also has sweeteners, so if that is not okay, any natural LC suggestions welcome! Am already drinking loads of water obviously

Amaxapax · 14/02/2015 18:53

Romey, I hadn't gone for a bit and then today I took a hot bath. It was amazingly effective! Just a potential natural approach.

Good day food wise, with my first low carb treat of the last six weeks.
B: Eggs scrambled in butter
L: Warm chicken, bacon and avocado salad on spinach leaves, pepperami
D: Cured meats to pick at as a starter, fillet steak, courgettes sautéed with shallots and pancetta, and mashed swede
Special treat: Little balls of peanut butter that I have covered in a thin layer of dark chocolate.

Too much processed meat today, but it's all good quality. I'm still almost entirely dairy free, so fingers crossed for Monday!

Romeyroo · 14/02/2015 19:16

Amaxapax, thank you, sounds like a good idea to try when DC are in bed! I remembered I have fennel tea, so am drinking that. Really would like to get a natural solution, I used to misuse laxatives when I was younger.

On a more pleasant note, your LC treats sound lovely!

MrsKoala · 14/02/2015 19:44

They look good Grah - i think he would eat anything sweet tbh. it's dh who is a fuss pot (i've made almond flour and flax muffins for him and he hated them). At home i don't give him anything sweet and we are fine all day, it's when he sees other people eat sweet things he wants them and he knows mums and mils cupboards are full. Well at mils they aren't even hidden, they have boxes and boxes of biscuits and choc on the sideboard right in his eye line in the sitting room. I have asked them to move them but they just nod and don't do it (their M.O for everything - agree and then don't do anything!)

Feeling better today. DS went to bed perfectly at 7. DS2 still in teething hell and not sleeping. Started him on some solids in the hope it may make him sleep, but it didn't. I'm not so hungry today so i'm hoping the last few days were a hormonal blip. Have upped my fat and water. Had

b- 3 bacon, 2 fried eggs in butter and mushrooms
l - tuna in oil, salad, mayo and olives
s - coffee with a splash of cream
d - pork belly and leeks and spinach in butter
have drank 6 pints of water so far and will probably have another 2 before bed and 1 thru the night.

I did the keto blog thing and it reckons slow weight loss 2264, moderate 2022 and fast 1780. So not too bad. When i did calorie control yonks ago it was estimated i needed 2400 to maintain, so i did 1800 and lost 2lb a week very easily. I do need a lot of calories, i have always known that. DH needs nearly 4000 Shock and it looks like our boys will be the same - i'll need a remortgage just to feed us all!

imustbepatient · 14/02/2015 22:08

Evening all and happy Valentine's Day!

Today for me has been:

B: 2 x bacon and 2 x fried eggs with a bit of HM mayo (I finally got round to making my own!)
L: asparagus wrapped in Parma ham and fried, served with a poached egg and more HM mayo
D: Spaghetti bolognese but on spinach with butter rather than pasta (which the rest of the family had)

I've had a small sherry and a glass of wine with dinner as a nice treat, which I very much enjoyed, but amazingly have been happy to call it a day at that. Miraculous.

LexLoofah · 14/02/2015 22:14

romeyroo do you have coconut oil? I had similar issues last week and after having a tsp of coconut oil in herbal tea, hot marmite and roibos several times day things started back up again

mrsk well done on ds1 bedtime, teething is a bugger. I would be beyond livid about the wanton disregard for your wishes about sugar, would they do the same if he were allergic to nuts for example? They should view it the same way, just koko I guess

cymrukernow · 14/02/2015 22:25

Lex I haven't tried any coconut oil yet, though lots of BCers have mentioned it. Was always put off by the fact it is hideously expensive- is there one that's particularly good?
Made a yum salad today with chopped smoked mackerel, a little bit spring onion, Mayo and those little capers or non pareilles as it says on the jar. Was so much nicer than the Salmon salad at Pizza Express yesterday which was about 90% lettuce - ripped off??

LexLoofah · 14/02/2015 22:26

b - bacon, fried egg, shrooms in butter, cuppa x 2
Took both DCs to supermRke which took twice as long as cost twice as much as usual. DH at work and he hates salmon so we treated ourselves and had salmon with roasted brocoli for lunch before going to kids party

DH is cooking dinner, rack of lamb, celeriac and kale.

I have made some dark choc truffles rolled in crushed hazelnuts as a surprise for after, will have 2 each and freeze the rest, also got some strawberries so will have 2-3 and then no more, kids can have the rest.

Have been bit relaxed today and also had quarter cup of blueberries which tasted very sweet, and a tsp of almond butter, not really because I was hungry, just fancied them while kids Were having. Back to strict BC tomorrow.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 14/02/2015 22:29

I had a cup of popcorn as a snack tonight, with coconut oil melted on it. I worked it out as 5g carb, does that sound right?

Along with my piece of chocolate and cup of liquorice tea :)

LexLoofah · 14/02/2015 22:33

cymru I am not in the uk so not sure if the one I get is available there, in either get nutiva or spectrum brand, sure someone else can recommend one. I also use for cooking and baking so you would use it rather than it sitting in the cupboard for months. You can fry with it so good for meat, fish or veg and also smoothies. I got some cocnut butter today so looking forward to trying that, now that was expensive. My shopping bill has gone up rather than down since starting BC but I sort of expected that as fresh stuff is pricey, eg a cauli here is 5 dollars!!!! Celeriac is the same Envy at UK prices and online grocery shopping!

cymrukernow · 14/02/2015 22:49

Thanks Lex yes I think I remember you saying you lived in Australia is that right? 5 dollars for a cauliflower - what the Shock! But I agree that BC can seem more expensive, unfortunately carbs are cheap filler- thank god for Lidl / Aldi for the cheap good stuff .

prettybird · 14/02/2015 22:52

cymru - I use the KTC Coconut oil - from the ethnic aisle on big supermarkets or in local Asian shops. It's only c.£2.50 for 500ml. It's solid at room temperature (anything under 25C), so you have to scoop it out with a spoon.

It's also good for your skin/hair/lips Grin
