Good morning! Already seen that there are some good losses, even for those in the dreaded week 3 Grin

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I love this point in Bootcamp. It's such a leap of faith for so many people when they first start low carbing, because it seems so strange to eat all the fat we're told to eat. But then when the scales show the result, I love it!

Hello all.

Whoever recommended Aldi avocados, I love you! They're the ready to eat ones & they're delicious. I mix one with a small portion of Boursin & have it with salad leaves & cucumber.

Breakfast today was 2 HB eggs with butter & a cream coffee.

Lunch will be the avocado salad.

Dinner will be chicken thighs with choritzo & roasted aubergine & corgettes.

I haven't been on the thread for a little while. Thanks to those struggling, and those have a tough time in life in general. It all piles up in unhelpful ways, and our self image really doesn't help (and neither does the way in which our society helps us to have that bad image).
I am struggling rather too, with the eating. I was anorexic for quite some time, and have always avoided 'denial' ways of eating because I knew that was the first step on a downward slope. I though this might be different, but I find myself sliding towards exactly the same ways of thinking, as in well if I can't have that, then I won't have anything, and I won't tomorrow either. And a level of obsession that I just recognise as unhealthy.
I wasn't doing this for weight purposes - I am 5'8" and 10 stone, which I think is healthy enough - I was doing it for health and bp. But I think I will have to rethink my approach. I still believe strongly in lc, but I need to sort my head out as to how to do it and keep my head in the right place! So I will lurk a little but I will be taking a step back. Thank you to everyone (especially BIWI and Sayra) for the support and enthusiasm.

DrDiva stay well Flowers

sass that's really helpful - I find I get concerned from time to time about whether this is a 'healthy diet', so ingrained are the ideas about what that is. I worry I'm not eating a wide enough range of foods, enough colourful fruit & veg etc, and too much fat. I do read the science, but years of conditioning are hard to overcome at times.

Notsoskinnyminny · 31/01/2015 14:29

DrDiva the fact that you've recognised that you're starting to become obsessional is a good thing. I hope you find something that works for you longterm.

Tip of the day - instead of struggling to peel and chop a swede, pierce the skin a couple of times, put it on a plate and microwave for 7 mins. If you want to make mash turn it upside and repeat , for roasties/chips turn upside down and microwave for another 3 mins. When its done cut in half and either scoop out the middle and mash with butter (I put it in the oven for an extra 10 mins to crisp the top up) or score the flesh and cut out chips or chunks - easy peasy and cuts down roasting time Smile

BIWI · 31/01/2015 14:37

DrDiva - it's good that you've recognised it and stopped it so quickly. If you're happy with your weight, then really you shouldn't be doing Bootcamp anyway! Bootcamp Light would be the very most you should consider - but use it as a way of 're-jigging' your food proportions, so you get used to a high fat/low(er) carb way of eating.

I think there's a lot in the idea that this is a harder time of year to get motivated/lose weight - after all, many animals are hibernating right now! Certainly the idea of getting up when it's dark and cold to go out for a run holds very little appeal, whereas in a few months' time, when the sun is up and it's warmer it is much more enjoyable thing to do.

Pseudo Grin

Did you think you'd missed the email?!

I meant, make sure that you have things to hand that you can eat that are enjoyable, but also low carb - so things like cheese and olives and (from next week) nuts.

Smoked salmon and avocados.

Plenty of eggs, so that you can easily knock up a quick breakfast, or to have some hard boiled eggs in the fridge for a quick snack.

Cream in the fridge and the right kind of meats in the fridge/freezer.

That kind of thing!

PseudoBadger · 31/01/2015 14:45

Thanks BIWI that is the sort of thing I have!

BIWI · 31/01/2015 15:10

So why are your cupboards bare?!

OP posts:
thenightsky · 31/01/2015 15:15

sassandfaff that link makes interesting reading. Think I will send it to my diabetic MIL who is thinking about low carbing but is not convinced its going to be worth the bother.

PseudoBadger · 31/01/2015 15:47

My ambient cupboards are pretty bare, but the fridge has all/most of the aforementioned yummy stuff.

MrsKoala · 31/01/2015 16:09

Aaargh mil has chicken en croute and mash for dinner. What can i do? I am not going to offend a dieing woman.

i weighed myself this morning and i was down another 4lb but i doubt i will be by Monday :(

Mrsstevejones · 31/01/2015 16:24

scrape the pastry off, push mash around your plate and fill up on veggies? Tough one. Other option is to take the hit and hope it doesnt stall you for too long. Sorry not very helpful

just though of a 3rd option - develop stomach cramps and dont eat anything until you get a chance to sneak off and munch a pepperoni?

WireCat · 31/01/2015 16:27

Does anyone else have dreams that they're eating cake & other banned carbs? I wake up & think thank goodness it was a dream!

MrsKoala · 31/01/2015 16:36

I think mil would be very upset. She told me she'd bought it specially. I wont have the mash and will try to eat as little of the pastry as i think i can get away with. Usually she does a leg of lamb or something so i thought dinner would be pretty safe. Tomo os a 4 bird roast - i can pick out the stuffing.

mil has seen a nutritionist who has advised to eat as little meat as possible, and the little she eats must be organic. So the dinners are bulked with loads of bread, spuds and rice. Last visit we had a chicken curry with homeopathic levels of chicken and made up with a ton of spuds and rice.

i have brought eggs and cheese and cream and butter and peperamis. Mil only has marg and elmlea (wtf is that?)

lurkingmurking · 31/01/2015 16:39

Argh koala I think just do what you can really.

Good day today though dinner with girls tonight. I will be having wine but no carbs in my dinner.

BIWI · 31/01/2015 16:55

You need to be a bit tougher, MrsKoala - but I realise it's tough given MIL's situation. Thing is, she's imposing her dietary needs on you!

If you can't tell her that you're low carbing (why not though?!), then can you tell her that you're not feeling well or that pastry is too rich and is setting off your indigestion?

Elmlea is a low fat cream substitute.

MrsKoala · 31/01/2015 17:10

I have told her we are low carbing. I have explained but she has bought it now and she really enjoys feeding people. Also i think dh would be upset if i make a big deal of it, so i will just eat a bit and quickly clear it away.

i have brought celeriac with me so i will do some mash of that i think.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 31/01/2015 17:38

I have a question BIWI I know on bootcamp that you are supposed to have breakfast, what is the deal when you sleep through breakfast and don't wake up until lunch? Does it get skipped? Or is it worth just shifting the meals for the day a bit? [confused[]

BIWI · 31/01/2015 17:47

Envy at sleeping through till lunchtime! I'm having a phase of waking at 4.00am at the moment, for no apparent reason!

Don't worry about it. Just have some lunch and carry on with the day.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/01/2015 17:53

POsh dinner do ce soir. Wish me low carbyluck

miffy49 · 31/01/2015 17:55

LOL Wirecat glad you enjoyed the Aldi avocados.Smile Must try mine with Boursin. Sounds lovely. I didn't do so well with my last Aldi bargain of a couple of bunches of asparagus. I usually buy the packs of tips but these were the big spears. Now I know why they were so cheap! When I came to trim them it was like trimming liquorice root! I've ended up hacking them into chunks and bunging them in the soup maker with some stock. Seems to have come out OK and will go down nicely with a glug of cream so at least I didn't waste them.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 31/01/2015 18:03

Ooh I've just discovered that eridanous Greek yoghurt from lidl is even lower carb than total! And half the price! I thought it was closer to 5g for some reason but the pot says 3.2!!!

sassandfaff · 31/01/2015 18:21

Eric you may have saved me there. I can eat 200g a go. Blush

Trip to lidl it is then. Wink

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 31/01/2015 18:28

Grin I have just come out of a phase of not being able to sleep until 4am so 15hrs sleep was so very much needed.

Lunch: very posh scrambled eggs (2 sausages, some leek, some mushroom, 2 eggs beaten, all fried up in butter)
snack: 3 baby bels
Tea: some yoghurt and some smoked mackrell
Drinks: 1 coffee, 1 oxo cube and 2.5 ltrs of water - another 1/2 ltr to my 3 ltr daily intake for weight aim.

I know I am low on vegetables, when I came to do tea the cooker was in pieces with someone swearing at it wielding a screw driver so needed to grab and run. Will microwave some cauliflower and melt some cheese over it if I am hungry before I head to bed.
