Hey
I'm starting again on 5th Jan, just about to go through recipes and meal plan as for me, when I fail to prepare I prepare to fail!

OP posts:
FelixFelix · 07/01/2015 20:55

Just had the most delicious tea of chicken thighs in a creamy mushroom and spinach sauce with roasted broccoli and courgette.

I'm definitely not drinking enough water. It makes me need to pee every 10 minutes Confused need to drink more!

DurhamDurham · 07/01/2015 21:20

Breakfast Greek yoghurt
Lunch 2 egg omelette and small tin tuna
Dinner roast chicken, roasted broccoli, parsnips and sweet potato

I know that parsnips and sweet potato aren't allowed on the bootcamp but I'm building up to that and easing myself in too in gently Grin

It's still a huge improvement on what I have been eating yeses last few weeks, I think I ate chocolate, sweets and crisps on a daily basis.

SayraT · 07/01/2015 22:12

Just popping on to post my meals

B: Fried eggs and bacon, coffee with cream
L: Leftover pork stroganoff
D: Butter chicken with cauli-rice, pots de creme for dessert

FelixFelix · 07/01/2015 23:04

Eughhhh I have the worlds worst stomach ache Confused would love to know what's causing it!

readyforno2 · 07/01/2015 23:06

I'll move onto this thread too if that's ok?
Been back on the wagon since Monday. Was also back at the trainer tonight.. It was hard.

Food today
B - scrambled eggs
L - leftover Bolognese with asparagus fried in butter and a fried egg
D - wasn't that hungry after working out so had a green pepper with some tuna mayo.

Loads of water, at least 10 pints.

feesh · 08/01/2015 05:19

Oh my GOD the insomnia. Is this normal? I didn't sleep till 2am last night and every night has been like that since I started. I don't remember this from the last BC. Does it pass?

readyforno2 · 08/01/2015 07:01

I don't know if it's normal but I've been the same. It's horrible isn't it?! Hopefully it will pass...

graduatedbob · 08/01/2015 09:39

Yesterday I had

breakfast boiled eggs, bacon
Lunch mushroom omelette
Dinner leftover belly pork, celeriac dauphinoise and cauliflower.

I felt so dodgy in the evening. Sick and shaky so I made myself a cauliflower, butter, cheese, chorizo thing. Not sure what made me feel ill as have been having plenty of butter with everything and having bouillon drinks and drinking loads of water. Started my period today though so maybe it was just my body's way of telling me to eat more. Had sausages and mushrooms in butter for breakfast, which was yum. Going to have tuna mayo salad for lunch and chicken curry with cauliflower rice for tea.

Antimatter, given that you started back on the 1st, is the rash recent? If you haven't had it before it might not be eggs. It could be ketones. Some people get skin irritation in the early days of going over to fat burning. In the early stages of ketosis you produce more acetone which is excreted in the sweat and the breath (hence the metallic taste in the mouth and the fruity smelling breath). This will pass as you go over to more long term fat burning when your body changes over to producing a different ketone (whose name escapes me right now).

Could this be part of the reason why I had about a months run of constant coldsores before christmas? I have been LC'ing on and off for a while but have never had this before. The only thing that was different was that I had introduced coconut oil daily and had significantly upped my fat intake. I was without doubt in ketosis. I felt really well otherwise but got one coldsore and then would literally have another one appear within days of the previous one going. I have been away for 10 days over christmas and have been eating carbs and not having my coconut oil and haven't had a coldsore in that time.

StuntNun · 08/01/2015 09:58

My BPC (200ml coffee, 15g butter, 15g coconut oil, splash of double cream) is about 250 calories and is 99% fat so it is extremely satiating. To be honest it probably should count as a breakfast.

Apophenia · 08/01/2015 10:47

stuntnun That's why I was under the impression that it did count? I had scrambled eggs instead today though.

Birdinacage · 08/01/2015 11:21

I've been doing dairy free combined with IF this week to get back into things after Christmas, I had been getting a bit too laid back towards the end of the year so though a bit more strictness would help give me a kick up the bum as I still have a good stone to lose or ideally 2 stone 5lb to go to reach my ultimate goal and I won't get there if I don't stick to it.

I've recently started using myfitnesspal just to be nosey really, I've set my macros up for low carb but I don't really know what my calories should be at or the sodium etc. At the moment it wants me to have 1,200 calories a day, I'm 5'5 and 145lbs so does anyone know if that sounds correct for this WOE?

StuntNun · 08/01/2015 11:26

Bird IMO 1200 calories is too low for anyone and it would be likely to actually impede your weight loss. You shouldn't need to count calories at all. I use the macros 70-75% fat, 20% protein and 5-10% carbs. Your calories may vary a bit from day to day, maybe try and keep them below 1800 but eat to satiation. I think calories only come into play when you're near to goal and in my case it was from habitual eating e.g. taking three sausages when I really only needed two.

FelixFelix · 08/01/2015 11:35

Thanks for that stunt, I've now adjusted the percentages on my mfp Smile

The horrible stomach ache last night was trapped wind! I have a feeling it was from the dairy. The only problem is, I'm not the greatest meat eater and if I don't have any dairy I end up eating around 1100 calories a day and I'm starving. Is it even possible to follow LC without eating loads of meat? I like fish (apart from prawns) and have been having smoked salmon and have some mackerel in the fridge too. I've also been eating avocados because I know they have a good fat content.

StuntNun · 08/01/2015 11:53

Felix how about eggs, nuts, salmon, tinned tuna, tinned mackerel, mayonnaise, coleslaw or olive oil salad dressing to get your calories up?

FelixFelix · 08/01/2015 12:03

I've gone off eggs (annoyingly!) and can't stand tinned tuna but I will try out the other things. Never thought of making coleslaw!

FelixFelix · 08/01/2015 12:04

Forgot to say thanks Grin I'm such a fussy bugger!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 08/01/2015 12:42

B- didnt have time as had to leave the house at 8am, so grabbed a pepperami. I know this is not ideal, but only realised i had to leave 15 mins before i left!! Grin
L- smoked salmon and cream cheese on fried aubergine 'toast', with scrambled egg and mushrooms

I recommend aubergine toast - i'm not a fan of aubergine normally but it was good :)

Birdinacage · 08/01/2015 14:18

Thanks Stunt, I've got my macros set to 10% carbs, 20% protein and 70% fats as a guideline at the mo but I tend to fluctuate between 70-75% fats in general. I was hoping the calorie goal was low, I couldn't really see how I would manage to keep to 1,200 calories on a normal dairy inclusive day. I've only just started using it and haven't been paying attention to the calories bit but I wanted to be able to set everything to where it should be so that I can keep an eye on how I'm doing.

LexLoofah · 08/01/2015 14:38

Hi, where can I get a reliable list of carb content?

For fruits & veg for example. There is one on the BIWI bootcamp page for veg which is great but looking for a longer list and ability to search.

Have done a bit of internet searching but some vary wildly perhaps due to net carbs or something so looking for a reliable, accurate source that I can use for bootcamp as already had a few surprises/revelations from reading the threads so want to be able to check before I eat something - would never have thought about onions being high for example and milk but not so much cream & cheese.

cheers

BIWI · 08/01/2015 15:12

Blimey, Lex - what veg or fruit are you looking for that aren't on those lists?! There are lists on the spreadsheet for carb counts for veg as well as for fruit.

The best bet for you is to buy a book. There are a few around. However, be prepared for the fact that they all vary - and I have no idea why!

But pick one, and stick with that.

Birdinacage · 08/01/2015 15:26

www.low-carbdiet.co.uk/carbcount.asp?id=3

That is a pretty comprehensive site for carbs in foods but no idea how accurate it is, it looks ok from the things I've looked at personally though.

BIWI · 08/01/2015 15:33

Bird - that's the site that the carb counts originally come from!

It's the site I first joined, back in 2000 and something, when I very first started low carbing, and when it was very popular. Sadly it's a very quiet site now.

LexLoofah · 08/01/2015 15:49

Hi BIWI, am honoured to get a reply from such a low carb legend - thanks so much for starting all of this

Am looking for things like collard greens, callaloo and kale - presumably low as leafy greens? Also radish, not that I eat loads of them all the time but I do have a big bunch in the fridge right now. Also partial to artichoke's - a jar sauteed with garlic, mushrooms and cream is delightful.

I have bought Dr Briffa's the Diet Trap, only 25% through but hope there will be some guidance in there as well.

I keep seeing references to 'the spreadsheet' but not come across it yet, where can I find it please?

Bird thanks, that looks like the sort of thing I was after - I see Rum is zero, surely not, that would make my DH very happy indeed!

BIWI · 08/01/2015 16:02

Grin @ legend! I'm not dead yet ...

If you search for any of the past low carb Bootcamp threads, the spreadsheet will be linked in the very first post.

However, the veg you're talking about are pretty specialist/unusual, so they're not likely to be on there - in which case, Google is your friend. But just remember, if you come across an American site (which you are most likely to do), that they include fibre in their carb counts, so you need to look for net carbs.
