Hey
I'm starting again on 5th Jan, just about to go through recipes and meal plan as for me, when I fail to prepare I prepare to fail!

It works - it really does . I have lost two stones all in all . I may be back for a 3rd bootcamp - but that is only because I had temporarily fallen back into carbs because of a stressful job ( no excuse) and Christmas .
It sounds like you have had a hideous grim time - this is no time to starve yourself , this is what your body needs I am sure . I had been fat and starving for years with low cal / weight watchers type food - this is a revelation .
My hubby is a mad mad cyclist ...... And even he - a die hard carb fan ... Is seeing the benefit of lo carb athletic performance .

Well, i stayed the same this morning. So only 2.6 lbs up on tuesday still Hmm
But as i said, im wondering if my first weight was falsely low, so not worried yet!

B - leftover celeriac dauphinoise, coffee with cream

StuntNun · 10/01/2015 09:47

Amaxapax you will know you are losing weight because your clothes will be looser. This way of eating really works, just stick with the rules and get motivation from the threads and you will see big results by April.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 10/01/2015 12:19

L - bacon and fried egg, with mushrooms, fried aubergine 'toast' and avocado

Having lunch early as have a load of uni work to do this afternoon...

Amaxapax · 10/01/2015 12:35

Thanks for the reassurance. I have done boot camp before, but got nervous and switched to Dukan leading up to my wedding. I was basically eating chicken breasts, salmon, broccoli, eggs and Greek yoghurt. That was it. It was effective, but very limiting, obviously. I think that's why it's hard to believe that I could be eating such lovely food and still lose weight.

In any case, today is my first hurdle. I had scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage (from the butcher) for breakfast, but I'll be out for both lunch and dinner, so we'll see how it goes.

trademark no problem at all, the only thing we will need to remember is that those of us starting early or long term BCers won't see the big weight losses in week one that others might.

Here is a quick overview of the rules of BC, they will be posted in more detail by BIWI once it officially starts.

  1. Eat three proper meals a day.
  1. Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals
  1. Eat lots of fat.
  1. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food.
  1. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
  1. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
  1. No alcohol.
  1. No fruit.
  1. No nuts/seeds.
  1. No sugar or artificial sweeteners.

These might seem strict but after the first two weeks of BC you can move onto BCLite when some of the rules (5,7,8 + 9) are relaxed slightly to allow moderate amounts of certain fruits, nuts etc.

Can someone advise on proportion on the plate?

At the moment, i'm doing sort of 1/3 - 1/4 meat, 2/3 - 3/4 veg. Is that too much veg/not enough meat?

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 10/01/2015 13:01

Think i'm gonna make this for tea, without the flour and wine. Any suggestions what i could replace the wine with to give it some flavour? (I would still put half a glass of wine in, split between four of us, but i dont have any here!)

britishfood.about.com/od/adrecipes/r/beefstewmush.htm

Have a bit of broccoli left to have with it. Need to do shopping later!

Hello all, happy weekend! I've been fairly on track all week, not weighing until the start of bootcamp though. Had extra time this morning so made a pancake with bacon and fried mushrooms, was so good. There was dairy in the pancake but not huge amounts. I'll cut out all cheese for the first bootcamp week. The great news is that my appetite has regulated itself after the pig fest that was carbmas. Already feeling better and the constant acid indigestion has gone.

Out for dinner tonight and have already picked my food from the menu online, moules then steak, YUM!

SunshineAndShadows · 10/01/2015 13:44

I'm trying to use quorn and tofu as much as possible, and drink soya or nut milk, but as a veggie its pretty hard to cut out all dairy so I'm struggling with that, still seem to have lost some tho so hopefully I'll stay on track

SayraT · 10/01/2015 13:51

sunshine you don't need to cut out dairy, unless you want to? Dairy can stall some people but I think that the majority are ok with it.

Apophenia · 10/01/2015 14:11

One week in and I'm 5lbs down. Smile

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 10/01/2015 15:22

Having a bit of a rough afternoon, had an upseting phone call while i was attempting to do my work, and im a bit of a catastrophiser. Eyed up the bag of giant buttons in the fridge, but resisted. So now sitting down to have a break with a probably more emotion than hunger snack, but at least its cheese on marmite, more avacado and a pepperami. Not fab, but better than the buttons :)

readyforno2 · 10/01/2015 15:33

I think when bootcamp starts I'm going to seriously cut down my dairy. I'm still only 1lb down from Monday and haven't fallen off the wagon at all.
In saying that, I am going to the cinema tonight so probably will not resist the popcorn.

SayraT · 10/01/2015 15:49

Well done beyond for choosing a better option, a LC snack to deal with emotional 'hunger' is better than chocolate.

I hope that you are ok Smile

DurhamDurham · 10/01/2015 15:55

We got up this morning and decided to treat ourselves to a cooked breakfast, we went to Toby as we had a voucher for there.
I had a sausage, slice of bacon, mushrooms and two fried eggs. I stayed well away from the toast, hash browns and Yorkshire puddings ( who has Yorkshire puddings for breakfast??). That was at 10 this morning and I'm still full. Will make sure I eat plenty of veg at dinner tonight.

Newbiecrafter · 10/01/2015 16:27

Hello everyone.

Hope you're all having a good weekend so far.

I weighed myself on Thursday and am down 4lbs. Not sure how that compares with others who start this plan but it's a move in the right direction. Yayy!!!

I am copying in my MFP thing and am I really okay to be eating quite so much fat? Shock

Anyone starting boot camp earlier than the official one?
BIWI · 10/01/2015 17:09

YES! FAT IS GOOD! FAT IS WHAT WILL KEEP YOU FEELING FULL! FAT IS TASTY!

Repeat after me ...

Grin

Please folks, read about low carbing and why fat isn't the problem. It's really important that you understand it.

BIWI · 10/01/2015 17:10

Newbiecrafter

List out your meals for me, that MFP is giving you those ratios for.

To be honest, I really wouldn't bother with MFP - it's notoriously inaccurate.

Beyond I'd probably look to up the meat and reduce the veg a little.

Remember we're trying to eat food in the proportions:

fat:protein:carbs

Newbiecrafter · 10/01/2015 17:40

I know fat is good, but the red bit of that pie diagram looked like quite a lot.

Today so far I have had. I wasn't really hungry at midday but wanted to nibble so had coconut without checking the carbs, which I now realise we're quite high.

10am BPC made with a tsp of butter and tsp of coconut oil
11am BPC made with a tsp of butter and tsp of coconut oil
12pm 90g of coconut.
2pm 3 egg omelette cooked in about 1pz of butter

For dinner tonight I'll have a couple of roasted chicken thigh fillets, a few florets of brocolli, 1 carrot and another ounce or so of butter.

Not sure how that looks. Thanks again for your help. I'm going to carry on logging onto MFP just to see what I've had and also to make me slightly more mindful of what I've been having, iykwim.

Xxx

BIWI · 10/01/2015 17:50

Right. The first thing to say is that you are not doing Bootcamp if you're eating like this!

Where is your veg? Where is your breakfast?

You need to eat properly on this WOE (way of eating), and it's really important whilst you're switching your body into fat-burning that you have three proper meals a day.

And you should also make sure that you are eating more veg/salad than this. They are the good carbs! You need the nutrition that provide.

Beware of carrots, as they can quickly become pretty carby. For today it's fine, as you've had so few carbs, but in general it's worth avoiding carrots if you can - certainly in the first two weeks.

Birdinacage · 10/01/2015 17:59

Beyond for the stew I would replace the wine with some good strong cheddar, gives a lovely tangy flavour and goes really nicely in a beef stew especially with a can of Guinness added to it

Newbiecrafter · 10/01/2015 18:37

Thanks BIWI. I woke up late and didn't really fancy breakfast. Just wasn't hungry. I do eat veg most days, just haven't today.

Most days I have been having avocado for breakfast with olive oil, omelette for lunch and a meal with veg and meat in the evening. I've also been having a carrot for a snack which I know isn't ideal, but the first few days I just needed something,

Now I really haven't been feeling very hungry at all. I need to start varying what I eat but I really don't enjoy cooking so am easing myself into that gradually. Last time I tried I remember sticking up on loads of different meat and veg and just felt a bit like a deer in lights every time it opened the fridge door. Blush

I will stick to 3 meals a day, I promise.and I also will make sure I eat veg too.

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it. Thanks

BIWI · 10/01/2015 18:40

That's OK! It's really important that you understand what you're doing, so ask away - any time. There are plenty of us here who are old timers, so usually always someone who can help.

Birdinacage · 10/01/2015 18:54

Newbie if you find cooking and trying out new meals a bit intimidating or overwhelming it might be good to just try to introduce one new idea at a time and repeat it until it becomes comfortable. Once it becomes one of your easy, known, meal ideas you can start looking to introduce another meal idea, you don't have to try and learn a whole new cookbooks worth of recipes all at once. There's also nothing wrong with having a few go to meals that you have regularly and just trying out something new every now and then if your bored or feeling adventurous. I have at least 4 meals which I usually eat each week and then I might try something new or do something I don't have very often for the other days to mix it up a bit.

I would look at introducing a bit more veg though, have a bit of salad or some cauliflower/other veg with the omelette and give yourself a decent sized portion of veg with your evening meal, you don't want to cut out carbs all together, just reduce them and be mindful of what your eating Smile
