Hey
I'm starting again on 5th Jan, just about to go through recipes and meal plan as for me, when I fail to prepare I prepare to fail!

OP posts:
FelixFelix · 09/01/2015 12:13

Horse thanks for the advice. It's annoying as I'm really motivated to get the training done but I physically can't do it.

Hi sunshine! Didn't realise you were doing bootcamp too Grin

I guess I'll just have to wait until I'm in ketosis and get a decent amount of energy. My DP suggested getting some protein powder to have a protein shake before any exercise as it might keep me going. Would this be ok or not recommended on bootcamp?

BIWI · 09/01/2015 12:22

It's OK, but check the carb count first.

Get hold of a copy of "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance" by Drs Volek and Phinny. They are big advocates of low carbing and have done lots of their own original research into it and particularly on how it actually improves performance. The their focus has been elite athletes as well - if it works for them, it should work for the likes of us!

When you're fully keto-adapted, you will find that you will be able to run/cycle/swim, etc in a fasted state, and you will never need to 'carb up' before an event.

'Hitting the wall' or 'bonking' will be a thing of the past as you will no longer be reliant on your glycogen stores, but will be burning your own fat for fuel.

And even endurance athletes have enough body fat to sustain the most intense exercise.

FelixFelix · 09/01/2015 12:28

Thanks BIWI Smile I'll see if I can download a copy to my iPad. Hopefully it won't be too long until my energy levels go up!

SunshineAndShadows · 09/01/2015 12:36

It's day 7 for me and I'm feeling great today so I'm sure you will too in a couple of days. I've been using unflavoured whey protein powder in my breakfast shakes - you probably need to check the carbs for the flavoured types.

I do think it's a case of getting through the first week, maintaining protein and fat intake, and drinking LOTS

FelixFelix · 09/01/2015 12:42

We have some in the cupboard but it's bloody pecan maple syrup flavour!! I'm not even going to bother checking the carbs on that one.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 09/01/2015 12:57

L- tuna cheese melt with a giant dollop of mayo and a few blocks of frozen spinach (mix it up and bung it all in the microwave)

Yum :)

readyforno2 · 09/01/2015 15:47

I'm on day 5. Only 1lb down. Probably due to my huge dairy intake!
Haven't been that hungry today, didn't have any breakfast
L - scrambled eggs with cheese
D - (will be) chicken thighs skin on roast with garlic and rosemary
Courgette chips and probably creamy leeks

Drank at least 6/7 pints water but too many coffees with cream

Quick question.. Dh has been doing this alongside me. He seems to be suffering from 'carb flu' headaches etc. but I'm ok. Is this just because I've been doing this pretty long term-ish or will it be on it's way?

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 09/01/2015 16:57

D- finest beef sausages in onion 'gravy' stock with celeriac dauphinoise

Its all cooking. If i hate the celeriac, i'm blaming you lot Grin

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 09/01/2015 17:04

Might add a few carrots to that, dont think i have had enough veg today?

Wombat22 · 09/01/2015 17:28

Day 5 and lost 3 lbs. I'm very pleased.
B: Scrambled eggs
L: Broccoli soup (again) and ham slices filled with soft cheese with tomato
and cucumber salad in olive oil
D: Bacon and eggs I think
Snacks of coffee with cream and 1 babybel

I'm loving it Grin

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 09/01/2015 18:20

Thumbs up to the celeriac dauphinoise. I may have licked the plate... Grin
DH loved the sauce but was unimpressed with the celeriac. He's not a veg fan anyway though.

SayraT · 09/01/2015 19:43

Sorry, got a bit of a sore head so don't want to do a super reply but Felix you are very polite, we normally call him pisses Grin

I love this WOE, I've lost 5 lbs since I started again on the 2nd, despite my scenic route back!

Didn't have a LC lunch as I was away for a work thing so ate what I was given.

B: Fried bacon and eggs, coffee with cream
L: BLT bagel, malteser cake
D: Cheesy leeks and ham (from the recipe thread, in the oven as we speak)

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 09/01/2015 19:51

Snack time, having ff greek yoghurt with coconut oil again

BitchTradeMark · 09/01/2015 20:04

Not doing boot camp but started low carb Monday, can I join?

One thing I find is good for motivation is a couple of pages on Facebook. Seeing the meal cooked and ready in my news feed makes me want to eat it! Grin For those interested I follow PaleOMG and Low Carb Zen. They also post free kindle books for low carb recipes, I had this mornings breakfast using one.

So far this week, I have made: enchilada chicken soup, brocolli & chicken fritters, vanilla cream cheese pancakes, banana bread, pizza casserole, steak with garlic mushrooms.

If anyone wants the recipes for those, I'll post them :) I haven't actually weighed myself yet as I didn't want to look at the starting weight (eek!) but will get the scales out from next Monday.

I'm looking forward to making a Chai Spice Keto Mug Cake - looks amazing!

Happy low carbing!

SayraT · 09/01/2015 20:25

Banana bread! On what planet is that LC?! Grin

What is pizza casserole out of interest?

Welcome to the thread. You are of course welcome to post here but if you are not following BC and are having things like banana bread which, if it contains bananas, is definitely not allowed on BC it might be an idea to see if there is an ongoing paleo thread in Low Carb Diets rather than the bootcamp section.

Only because new people to BC might get confused about what is/isn't allowed and you will get long term LCers telling you that bananas etc aren't allowed!

If you are interested in BC then hang around and learn some more, I can post the bootcamp rules if you want to see what it is all about?

graduatedbob · 09/01/2015 20:26

Had a total disaster trying to make cauliflower pizza. It was a soggy mess and really not nice. Think I will stick to cauliflower rice from now on.

SayraT · 09/01/2015 20:33

bob you really really really need to squeeze the moisture out, I also bake it on one side then turn it over and put toppings on the otherside.

I had to try a couple of times before I got it right.

Apophenia · 09/01/2015 21:00

Great day today, feeling really positive. Grin

I've had omelette twice today because the shopping hadn't been delivered but that's better than toast or a sandwich, which were the other options.

B- mozzarella and spinach omelette.
L- cheddar and mushroom omelette.
D- steak stirfry

E - 5k run and 5k cycle.

AND....... I've drunk enough water!!!! GrinGrin

BitchTradeMark · 09/01/2015 21:42

Oh OK no bananas allowed Blush It was - 2 bananas, stevia, 3 eggs, vanilla extract, almond butter, almond flour, cinnamon. The glaze on top was - butter, almond flour, cinnamon. It was nice though and I haven't touched any other fruit!

The pizza casserole was - mushrooms, shallots, smoked sausage (the Matteson cooked smoked sausage was 0.0g carbs per 100g serving) cooked chicken and chorizo in a homemade marinara sauce (whizzed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt and pepper). Pour into a casserole dish, grate cheese on top with a few slices of chorizo, bung in the oven for 25 mins. It was lovely and actually tasted like pizza! But without the base.

I'll keel my eye out for other LC threads not in the boot camp section :)

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 09/01/2015 21:49

Mm, i quite fancy that pizza casserole!

SayraT · 09/01/2015 22:34

The pizza casserole sounds good. I'm on my phone now but I'll paste the rules for you tomorrow if you are interested trademark (don't want to call you bitch!).

Amaxapax · 09/01/2015 22:56

I'm having a little panic. I started eating low carb on Monday and I've found it pretty easy going. I tend to get like this, though...once I'm committed to a particular plan, I'm really committed.

However, I didn't weigh myself on Monday because I just couldn't face the reality. So that means that, if I have lost weight, I won't know how much. I feel really well and have been exercising daily, but I just can't imagine how this is really going to let me lose weight. I had that thought when I was eating courgette gratin with steak and broccoli for dinner. I found the courgette recipe on the boot camp recipe thread, and it is the most delicious thing I've ever had. However, it's made with Brie, double cream and pancetta. How can I possibly lose weight eating that?

I'm going on holiday on 3 April and I really want to stick with a good way of eating that will help me lose weight in time for the holiday, and that I can continue afterwards as I try to conceive again. I suffered a molar pregnancy in October and put on a lot of weight through the long and emotional recovery process, but it finally seems to be coming to an end. Anyway, I just haven't got time for this not to work. So...it definitely will, right?

SayraT · 09/01/2015 23:00

In bed so very short reply.

Yes it will, I've lost over 2 stone and I use a pack of butter and a pint of cream each week.I also eat loads of fatty meat and cheese.

BitchTradeMark · 09/01/2015 23:18

Great, thanks SayraT. I've found the boot camp sign-up thread - is it OK to join 2 weeks into LC?

BIWI · 10/01/2015 02:03

Amaxapax - it really works!

Fat is not the big nasty villain it's made out to be - it's the carbs wot make us fat

But this is why it's really important to do some reading up about low carb, so that you can understand why it works and, most importantly reassure yourself.

As well as having an argument to offer to all your lovely friends and family who will tell you you're going to keel over with a heart attack after eating all that fat

Fat is good!

You should be eating your food in the following proportions:

fat:protein:carbs

It feels wrong because it runs counter to all the advice we've been given over the last 30 years or so. But that advice is wrong. And it's being called the worst, biggest experiment we've done on humans in history, by some!
