Good morning everyone!

I hope you're all still with us, to come and add your final weigh-in to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Or, on the Weight Tracker

It seems like there have been some really good losses on this Bootcamp, and so Flowers for you all!

Hope you all have a very good week

Oh no roomeyroo if you are looking for something chocolately rather than cakey then I can recommend the easy pots de creme from the recipe thread....only after the initial 2 weeks of BC and only as an occasional treat.

Had to say that in case BIWI is watching Wink Grin

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 07/01/2015 22:30

BIWI is watching Shock

shit.

Romeyroo · 07/01/2015 22:46

Thanks, Sayra; tried and tested recipes only from now on definitely! Though I am well and truly put off anything at the moment, so no danger of overdosing on the choc pots.

'cake' is in the bin now. I tried another mouthful just to check I was not over-reacting first though. I really was not.

SayraT · 07/01/2015 22:53

I've given up on trying to make cake or biscuit like things, they are always shit! I always end up chucking them out.

Romeyroo · 08/01/2015 05:54

Yes, pretty much my conclusion! I don't know if it was you or someone else who said just enjoy the low carb food, don't try to imitate. Lesson learnt!

CharlieSierra · 08/01/2015 11:05

I made an almond sponge from the IPD cookbook which was sort of ok, but I gained weight that week iirc so haven't tried anything since. I think if you really fancy something occasionally have the real thing and move on.

I have been given half a prosciutto, it weights 2.5 kilos - I normally buy slices and eat with avocado, or wrap around fish fillets or chicken breasts etc. what on earth are we going to do with this, and also does anyone know how long will it keep after we open the vacuum pack, at the moment it's good for 6 months?

Birdinacage · 08/01/2015 11:07

My chocolate cake experiment was unsuccessful too, it looked really nice but it was just really bitter and sickening lol. I will have another go one day (with cheaper chocolate!) but it will need something to sweeten it up a lot more or alternatively a lower coco % chocolate so I expect it won't be so low carb once it's actually edible Hmm

I went with Crabby's chocolate tart recipe in the end at Christmas and just made the filling without the crust so that I could use some gorgeous orange flavour dark chocolate from lidl and still keep the carbs down. I added a little sweetener, some cinnamon and nutmeg to make it festive, it was very rich so only needed a small bit and I found it best with cream but it was very nice.

BestIsWest · 08/01/2015 11:09

I think the prosciutto will keep for ages as it is already preserved.

miffy49 · 08/01/2015 13:01

The only thing I've done that was remotely successful was the IPD truffles at Christmas. They helped keep me off the more dangerous sweet stuff when everyone was pigging out. I've been down the line of the faux recipes and they never hit the spot. I do make oopsie bread but I've done that since before LC as I hate gluten free bread. Made on a swiss roll tray it does cut into passable slices for holding pate and salad etc but don't go into it thinking about real bread or you will be seriously disappointed!

I once heard James Martin doing a question and answer session about his rich cakes and desserts. He was asked about why he never does anything low cal or low carb. I totally agreed with his answer that things like that are supposed to be a treat and not an every day or even every week thing. Fakes are just that, they never really hit the spot and you go away disappointed and wanting more. If you have a small portion of the real thing you will enjoy it far better and be less likely to go off on a binge afterwards.

Newbiecrafter · 08/01/2015 19:56

Hello everyone. Hope you're all well.

I haven't felt very hungry today. I had a bullet proof coffee for breakfast at about 9. Then at 12 I had a 3 egg omelette with another BPC. I wasn't hungry then but didn't want to get into that mad hungry need to eat now phase so had that and enjoyed it.
I've nibbled on a little bit if roasted chicken, and am now thinking I should probably eat, but not really feeling like I want to.
So, should I? Am I supposed to eat 3 meals a day, without fail?
No doubt as soon as I send this I'll be suddenly very hungry.

Newbiecrafter · 08/01/2015 19:57

Oops, sorry. Me to say thanks in advance.

SayraT · 08/01/2015 20:43

Hey newbie how long have you been doing this now? Loss of appetite is a side effect of LCing...a very welcome one in some cases!

BIWI · 08/01/2015 20:47

Newbie - it is one of the best things about low carbing - you simply aren't hungry between meals. It's actually one of the key secrets to success Grin

The idea is that for the first two weeks you should eat three meals a day - this is to ensure that you get your blood sugar levels stable, and to ensure that you have switched your body into fat-burning mode rather than carb-burning mode. After this period, you can start to eat when you like/when you're hungry.

The worst thing that you can do is end up starving hungry, so that you dive into something with too many carbs!

But it sounds like it's going well Flowers

Hello, thanks for your help, again.

I'm on day 8. I feel different this time than I did last year when I tried. Not feeling hungry has been a strange thing for me, if I'm honest. I did eat something just now. I had some roast chicken and swede mash left over from yesterday so had that with lots of butter mixed in.

So, I'll try and stick to 3 meals a day and then eat when I'm hungry. I used to get those mad hungry and eat everything in site moments and was surprised that I managed to recognise that I didn't want that.

I'm going to weigh in tomorrow so will report back here then.

I think this woe if going to make a massive difference to me in terms of my health. I have Hashimoto's which is an auto immune condition, and everything I've read suggests grain free/LC is the way to go. I've been a bit stuck about getting going, but there was something about SayraT's reply on my other thread, and the help on this one that made come think I'm just going to do it. Thankyou to everyone who has helped me with the much needed advice.

I still have loads I'm not sure about so I hope it's okay to just pop onto here and ask random things.

BIWI, I did ask upthread about the amounts for carbs/protein/fats. I'm recording my flood on MFP and I'm always way over the top for fats, using the MFP baseline that it set itself. Confused. I think I can set my own levels, so that's why I'm asking.

Thanks again and hope things are going well in Vietnam.

SayraT · 08/01/2015 22:52

newbie there is another thread which more people are on just now here with people who started earlier, come on over Smile

Once BC starts BIWI usually starts a questions thread where people can ask everything and anything. It is fine to ask anything you want, we want to help people get the best from this WOE. It is not very forgiving so you do need to do it write and that means understanding what and why so ask away Smile

Some people on the other thread have mention MFP and being careful with it as the nutritional info is put in by other users and may not be correct. I don't use it so can't really help but I think you can change the settings for fat, protein and carbs to your own levels but I don't know how.

Newbiecrafter · 08/01/2015 23:01

Thank SayraT, again.

I'll come and say hello in a mo.

Thanks
SayraT · 08/01/2015 23:04

Oh dear, did I actually write write instead of right! What a numpty! Time for bed I think!!

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 09/01/2015 01:07

You did SayraT. Hang your head in shame.

Grin

Newbie. I did MFP for a little while, but as SayraT said, you have to be careful as a lot of what is on there is crap. I ended up starting again, with only things I added in myself. But it's such a faff I stopped. You are far better to let go of that and just chuck yourself 100% into low carbing and trusting the process.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 09/01/2015 01:48

Newbie i mainly use MFP to track how much exercise I do, because I have to be very careful to keep a track of how much I am doing. oh and to giggle at it when it got upset with my carb vs fat ratio. But I got sick of correcting and entering info. I have been given the very good advice that IF you stick to bootcamp then you WILL lose. I know that there are a few circumstances where this is not 100% true but it is a very good place to start. SayraT and everyone else who has contributed have built up a HUGELY useful set of resources on the spread sheet. Totally agree with Chipping on the faff and trusting the process.

BIWI · 09/01/2015 02:10

Newbie what do you mean by 'way over the top with fats'?

This is perfect!!!

You are supposed to be eating fat:protein:carbs with ratios probably around 60:30:10.

Don't bother with MFP - honestly, I've heard so many people complain about it. And the whole principle of Bootcamp is that it should be easy and faff-free Grin

Morning BIWI I hope you are managing ok being away. Safe journeys for your return.

BIWI · 09/01/2015 04:10

Thank you!

Four more interviews today, then I'm finished - should be finished at about 5pm, then back to the hotel. Have to do a bit of work there, then time for a quick shower and off to the airport.

I will be glad to get home.

OP posts:
ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 09/01/2015 04:21

You'll probably be home before I get to sleep

I hope your trip was worth it. I can't say it would be a destination of choice, but I get frustrated when I have to go somewhere for work and don't even get to see the place at all. I usually manage to tag some days at one end or the other. Minimises the grump factor a bit! I hope the hotel was nice at least! Apart from it being carby, what was the food like?

BIWI · 09/01/2015 05:19

Don't talk about sleep! I had a crap night last night - managed 1.5 hours until 1.30 - tossed and turned till 3, so I got up for a couple of hours, then didn't drop off again till around 7, and had to be up at 9.

So sitting in a darkened room all day is torture! And I don't fly till after midnight, so will be hours before I can get any kip.

It is frustrating not seeing anything - although it's always different being somewhere on your own. I'm less motivated - and here, it's kind of scary. The traffic is incredible, and crossing the roads is a nightmare.

And given that I had to give up my Sunday to fly here (because the time difference and the length of the flight meant I wouldn't get here until late Monday), and I'm in effect giving up Saturday this weekend - I didn't really want to tag any more time on.

Food has been lovely - really enjoyable. But it's not really a place for low carbing, unless you seek out a Western menu.

The hotel is good for that, and if I was just eating at the hotel it would be very easy to low carb - but then I would also really feel that I was missing out. Even the breakfast buffet, as well as being filled with the usual Western stuff, and an egg station, also has lots of lovely Vietnamese dishes to choose from.
