Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the fork in the road ...

BIWI · 13/10/2014 07:39

Good morning! (not that there's much good about it, from what I can see out of the window ...)

So we're at the end of the first two weeks. Felt like forever, didn't it? Grin

Come and tell us how you got on on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... or keep it to yourself on on the Weight Tracker

I hope that you have seen a good loss over these two weeks, because you do need to prepare yourself for the infamous weeks 3 and 4, where it is very, very, very, very common to see weight loss slow, stop or even reverse slightly

IF YOU FIND THIS IS HAPPENING, DON'T PANIC!

Keep calm and Bootcamp on ...

as we might say if we had our own posters Grin Just keep on keeping on, and things will start to move again very soon. However, the rate of loss will now - from here on - be at a more sustainable rate of 1-2lbs per week. (If you have a lot to lose it might be a bit more than this, but please don't expect to see massive losses every week - that way madness lies!)

And now you have a choice.

You can stay on Bootcamp if it suits you (but please promise me that you're getting your carbs from vegetables and salad), or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means you can introduce a few berries and nuts/seeds, as well as re-introduce alcohol in moderation. Rules for Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet (look at the tabs at the bottom)

Or, you can do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide, I hope it goes well for you.

Flowers for all those still with us!

Hi all! Have survived moments when the carby twat in me reared it's ugly head and for my trouble I have lost nothing Hmm Grin
Still, have just started blobbing and not officially weighing or anything so that's fine, It doesn't even count.
Will keep on with bootcamp for now I think until that carb monster fucks off a bit more. and I lose some weight
Grin
Excellent losses here, well done Thanks

ChesterDrawers · 14/10/2014 06:50

Still no bloody loss. So frustrated but sticking with it. AF due on Wednesday so not doing anything drastic like cut back on dairy til after that.

Had the prawn curry off the recipe thread last night with some shredded cabbage fried in butter. Was really nice, can recommend.

Today's plan:
B: eggs, butter, cream
L: broccoli and Stilton soup
D: cauli pizza Grin

Got kettlebells class later. Hoping I'll notice a difference in energy as it's v tough and was so hard when I started LC.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/10/2014 07:51

Oh arse, but yes def stick with it Chester, I suspect that will be me plateauing next week. Loss of two for me here, hoping next week for a change in the first number. One can but hope.

Have a good day Losers x

SayraT · 14/10/2014 08:16

CQ I hope you didn't have a 3lb poo either, it is frustrating when you do all the right things but your weight goes up. It is just one of those things.

Well done yellowtaxi hope you are feeling better now. Eight pounds in 2 weeks is fab Smile

pisses you have done really well, how far are you from goal weight now?

Yeah, look at our poster Grin thanks pistey

non 1-2 lbs is great, not everyone has huge losses in the first weeks but measuring is a great idea. I have lost inches on this WOE.

That is great bird getting into the next stone down always feels good. Even if it is just XXst 13lbs Grin Hope your hips feel better soon, take it easy.

Yes sorelip planning is the key. I put on 4lbs in the first week of BC Blush all down to bad no planning. Get organised and write a meal plan/buy some yummy LC treats and get back on it!

aNote as I said above to non not everyone loses huge amounts in the first two weeks, some people do. Don't worry that you haven't. I bet you will get a whoosh later. On a previous BC I think trashy either STS or gained for at least the first 6, yes SIX weeks then had a whoosh and she was off. She has now lost about 2st 7lbs since January.

The reduced appetite is a known side-effect on a LC WOE, one I quite like! I can't exactly remember why but for some sciencey reason (would you believe that I am a scientist!) your hunger is reduced. If stunt is around she is very good at explaining this, but I think when you eat LC you produce more (or release more from fat cells) of a hormone called leptin which controls appetite.

Woohoo! gointothewoods its great when you see real changes in your body Smile

six yes this WOE is amazing, I don't think anyone else even twigs you are "on a diet" (I don't intend to change so not really a diet) when you are eating this way. Hmmm, yummy cream Grin

Great news stunt what is your costume for this year, should you not always be stuntnun? Grin

I keep meaning to start the 30DS as well prettybird but keep making excuses too, I do a lot of other exercise though but when I've done 30DS before I could see the difference quite quickly. Thought I might do six week six pack Grin Not that I will have a six pack ever in 6 weeks but thought it might help tone my middle a bit.

Oh dear yongnian I am sure your 2lbs loss will be seen again, hope your DC is feeling much better now. It is hard when you can't get out but maybe think of some LC things you can keep in the cupboard. I have fish (tuna, salmon, mackerel), corned beef, pork scratchings and I am sure that there are other things you could stock up on.

username there is a convertor on the spreadsheet, look at the tabs at the bottom. Well done on the 5lbs off Grin

Ahh chester I love caulipizza, not made one this BC, will need to add it to my meal plan Grin RE the salted caramel green tea, I couldn't find it anywhere near me, I tried all the main supermarkets and then I wrote to Twinnings and they sent me some free ones to try, then peony very kindly sent me a whole box Smile Sorry about the no weight-loss, dod I remember that you had a slow start last time or am I wrong, maybe you should try and weigh less often. Are you weighing every day? Maybe just once a week?

Hobbes you've got the right idea, just keep on keeping on. More fat, more water, as you said, the weight will come off.

Youremywife its always worth looking a the the non-scale improvements. One of the first things I noticed was that my watch felt looser, I hadn't even realised that I had fat wrists Grin

guymartin I still haven't make dolphin pose of any kind, I really should I love it, and crumble. Yummy, I have people over this weekend maybe I will make crumble for dessert.

bitchy did you tell them you were coeliac to avoid the carbs? I tried that once and it backfired as I got GF stuff (biscuits/cakes) bought for me instead, or GF sweets!!

citrasun 2lbs, well done Smile

Humphry feeling thinner is always good! Grin

I always weigh more after strenuous exercise livelong so measuring is a good idea, I never seem to measure in the same place twice though Confused

Hello wombat

fannyburney thats is a good landmark, I can't remember the last time I was cut in half..oh yes I can, last year before I started BC Smile

Jocasta unfortunately, as you have discovered this WOE is not forgiving and you can't really get away with gong haywire at the weekends. If you stick with it it does get easier honest. Soon you won't even care for the carby things you used to crave.

Woohoo to the baggy trousers clash

9.8lbs is a great loss twoflowersyou are right to be really happy Grin

bettertogether great job (do I sound American?!) on breaking through that stone barrier.

scouse I think that this WOE has to fit around things and occasional planned carby moments are ok, as long as they don't happen every weekend. I think DH birthdays in London are fine Grin

Hey crabby

Woohoo! best

Goodness me, its been a while since I've written a CrabbySuperReplyâ„¢ I had better go, I have a PhD thesis that I am supposed to be writing!!

Sorry if I missed anyone, and sorry for the repetition, there are only so many ways you can say "well done" Grin

gointothewoods · 14/10/2014 08:58

Morning all, dying of sinus pain today so am skipping work and having a duvet day. Bonus that it's pissing rain. Netflix or recorded Australian Masterchef episodes methinks. Smile

Yesterday was impressively saintly:
B: half an avocado with turkey slices and 6 cherry tomatoes
L: Spanish chicken from recipe thread, added some extra veg to it so got my goodness in from that
D: tiny portion of chicken wings in Frank's hot sauce with blue cheese mayo and a spinach salad. Mainly ate the salad as was starting to feel ill.
About 10 pints of water as was trying to wash sinus pain away and oddly enough I've lost 1.5 lb since yesterday morning, which I figure must be the extra water as I did eat reasonably well.

Have a good day all!

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 14/10/2014 09:05

SayraT nope i just said i wasn't eating wheat atm. I have various health issues and I suspect they have just assumed that it was linked to that. But they helpfully bought some decaff cofffee when i said that I was avoiding the coffee as it was stopping me from sleeping and affecting my productivity. it is vile and I physically struggle to drink an entire cup unless i am very in need of coffee (habit) I suspect i might have to be a bit more honest and open. Although as a woe like this was recommended for one of my medical conditions it is all very easy to do and not have to explain about the weight. Very impressed with the mahoosive round up!

I managed to sabatouge myself yesterday. I am not sure what happened, so i need to figure that out today. I am wondering whether it might be better to be strict boot camp breakfast and lunch and more light in the evening. I don't know. I need to have a sit and a ponder. But the net result is that I have sts and it pretty much all water rention and stupidity. Blush Starting with very good intentions and a cup of proper coffee, my one and only cup today

PseudoBadger · 14/10/2014 09:22

I thought I'd got away with my planned excursion into cake this weekend (DD's first birthday) as I had lost yesterday. I was good as gold yesterday, but this morning am 2lbs up :(

Liveinthepresent · 14/10/2014 09:41

Just checking in to say weighed today and am 2lbs down - so that's 6 so far. very happy and DH has lost the same (despite eating porridge every day!)
Can't edit spreadsheet on iPad will try again later.
Feeling really motivated to keep going - though I left my lovingly prepared eggs at home so am currently starving at desk with no breakfast.

masquerade · 14/10/2014 10:11

I haven't been on MN since bootcamp started, everyone seems to be doing really well! The first week was a spectacular fail for me, so I didn't start until last weekend. I'm completely amazed that I lost 7lbs in my first week!! I really didn't expect to have lost much because I didn't feel any of the carb withdrawal symptoms I got when low carbing before my hols or have the horrible ketotic taste.

I've ate lovely food this week, even some eggs - only if combined with cream and scrambled or cheese in an omlette mind. Also have a new found love for aubgergine - moussaka, parmigiana mmmm. And my old friend cauliflower, riced, roasted, mashed.

I'm feeling really good, really motivated in other aspects of life as well as eating well, lots of house tidying and decluttering going on!

Can't decide what to have for dinner tonight. Options - chicken breast stuffed with cream cheese and pesto wrapped in parma ham with courgette gratin; chicken breast wrapped in parma ham with ratatouille, cauliflower and butternut squash cheesey bake (have avoided butternut squash so far); ?something else. Decisions, decisions.

Pisseslikeahorse · 14/10/2014 12:20

masquerade - well done

Hi all, Just back from the doctors - all is good Grin
only issue is that my scales are a bit rich crap so I need to get some new ones, as such I've amended my weight but nothing to bad.

Actually I'm still grinning as he told me that in all his years of practise i've lost the most weight without surgery and that I should be really proud of the achievement. (he's also interested in and very positive about this WOE)

So December of last year I was 138kg, started boot camp at 131kg and just weighed 98kg at the doctors office. So I happily get to join readyforno2 in breaking the 6 stone mark this year.

Bootcamp has resulted me in loosing 33kg (72lbs /5.2st) so far and given me the confidence to constantly amend my goals and focus on my health and fitness.

SayraT - Not sure what my goal weight is, I still like the jumping up and down jiggling test, but BMI puts me about 92kg / 202lb for healthy so Im going to focus on getting down to that, but have to say I'm rather happy at the moment anyway....

OK one moan, my pants don't fit me anymore Shock

Keep it up all, thanks for your help

miffy49 · 14/10/2014 12:39

Hey Pisses that's great! Isn't it good to baffle the docs!Grin They really can't get out of the surgery mentality can they, even though its proving not to be as good an option as they thought in the long run. My hubs lost 17st few years back and the docs were almost peevish about the fact that he hadn't had surgery! Crazy!

Good about the pants. Annoying but good. Smile I keep hoisting up my jeans to the extent that hubs has threatened me with a 6ins nail through the belly button to hang em on!

Lots of lovely, positive posts this week.Smile

readyforno2 · 14/10/2014 12:47

Pisses.. What on earth is the jumping up an down jiggling test??

It's a great feeling when your clothes are too big isn't it!?
I forgot to post last night, went to the trainer and have stayed the same, last weighed on Friday so I'm not that worried.

People have started saying that I'm getting too thin. It's really annoying, my bmi is still at the higher end of healthy so I'm definitely not too thin.

Pisseslikeahorse · 14/10/2014 13:05

ready - jump up and down in front of the mirror when you stop if all the right things are wobbling then you've hit target weight Grin

One thing about BMI is its taken from a very wide demographic and is based on an average so is very generalised, its easy to not fit in its guidelines. The World Health Organisation only talk about waist size and disregard BMI.

Pisseslikeahorse · 14/10/2014 13:09

also I asked my doctor about what should be a target weight and he just asked me how I feel..

for me its now a visual thing mixed in with a want to be abel to fight (Judo) in the sub 90k category, Whispers

Figrus · 14/10/2014 13:31

Hi all, just a quick question. Roasted parsnips? Too carby? Thanks

SayraT · 14/10/2014 13:33

I think parsnips are too carby but thats just off the top of my head, why don't you just look up the carb content and if its more than 3g carbs per 100g then its too carby.

Figrus · 14/10/2014 13:37

Well done pisses. Some achievement.

Do you mind me asking if you are male? Its just your comment about your pants falling down is slightly less disturbing if you are male.

Username12345 · 14/10/2014 13:42

Can't believe it's only been 2 weeks.

I can't stop thinking about a lovely buttery slice of toast Envy

ChesterDrawers · 14/10/2014 13:56

Just done my weekly kettlebell class. Wouldn't say it was easy but I felt like I could have gone on much longer. Is this the elusive fat burning going on?

Going to try a run tomorrow - last one was a lead-legged disaster and it's kind of put me off but I am ready to give it another go.

Am still not feeling remotely hungry, even though I've not eaten since 9am. Going to have my soup anyway as I am worried about not eating enough. Don't think I will ever get used to not feeling hungry.

Pisseslikeahorse · 14/10/2014 13:59

Hi Figrus yes I am, I'm a house husband put on here by DW to drop some weight and boy has it worked Grin

Just think of me as a token male

aNoteToFollowSo · 14/10/2014 14:05

Thanks Sayra for that information and encouragement. I needed it, because I was starting to re-think my 5lb loss. Now I can be delighted by it again.

Wow pissses that is really an achievement to be proud of. Fantastic loss.

Masquerade it's funny how ordering one's eating can lead to being more orderly elsewhere - and visa-versa! I haven't quite got as far as actual de-cluttering but it does feel like eating well means I can get a handle of other aspects of my life.

Quick question: are pine nuts allowed on bootcamp light? (which I suddenly decided today I am doing for a day or two. Fecking sick of cauliflower) Grin)

BIWI · 14/10/2014 14:18

Wow - brilliant super post Sayra Grin

Having a bit of a nightmare time with work right now, so haven't been able to post much. I also discovered that something that I ate quantities of when I was away in Bruges wasn't low carb as I had thought, so I've given the scales a swerve and won't weigh again until Friday. Hopefully I'll be back to where I was last week, and then I'll continue to do Bootcamp during the week.

Pisses you are amazing! And very glad to hear that your doctor is a supporter.

Figrus parsnips are definitely too carby - make sure you've got the veg list printed out/near you somewhere so that you end up learning what is/isn't too carby!

OP posts:
miffy49 · 14/10/2014 14:25

Masquerade I think pine nuts are OK on BC light. It lists nuts and seeds in moderation. If you are just thinking about the odd sprinkle to add a bit of texture to a meal I would have thought they would be OK. I think the point with nuts and seeds is that they are very nutritionally dense and a lot of people can't stop once they start nibbling. Smile

SayraT · 14/10/2014 15:09

Thanks BIWI its called procrastination!

So far today I have written a superpost, walked three dogs (new PT ish job for while I am writing up), checked my emails a million times, saved the cat (discovered that another cat prevents my cat coming in the garden (might be why he went missing) and cleaned the bin and litter tray.

I better do some writing before I start cleaning or something!! Grin

ClashCityRocker · 14/10/2014 15:26

sayra I know exactly what you mean.....I'm about to start working from home for the last half hour

I've noticed my mood has been a lot better over the past few weeks...I have also been sleeping better. I think this WOE really agrees with me. I feel less anxious, more rested and have more energy. Really pleased with my progress.
