Week 3 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the fork in the road ...

BIWI · 13/10/2014 07:39

Good morning! (not that there's much good about it, from what I can see out of the window ...)

So we're at the end of the first two weeks. Felt like forever, didn't it? Grin

Come and tell us how you got on on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... or keep it to yourself on on the Weight Tracker

I hope that you have seen a good loss over these two weeks, because you do need to prepare yourself for the infamous weeks 3 and 4, where it is very, very, very, very common to see weight loss slow, stop or even reverse slightly

IF YOU FIND THIS IS HAPPENING, DON'T PANIC!

Keep calm and Bootcamp on ...

as we might say if we had our own posters Grin Just keep on keeping on, and things will start to move again very soon. However, the rate of loss will now - from here on - be at a more sustainable rate of 1-2lbs per week. (If you have a lot to lose it might be a bit more than this, but please don't expect to see massive losses every week - that way madness lies!)

And now you have a choice.

You can stay on Bootcamp if it suits you (but please promise me that you're getting your carbs from vegetables and salad), or you can move to Bootcamp Light, which means you can introduce a few berries and nuts/seeds, as well as re-introduce alcohol in moderation. Rules for Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet (look at the tabs at the bottom)

Or, you can do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever you decide, I hope it goes well for you.

Flowers for all those still with us!

Hey Pisses! No wonder your GP thought he'd got the wrong bloke! Great transformation. You look younger in each photo!

CharlieSierra · 15/10/2014 20:25

Great to read of the substantial losses, really inspirational when things are feeling a bit hard.

I just made a really nice Massaman curry, had to make my own paste as all the bought ones have loads of sugar. I'll stick the recipe on the other thread.

B - Breakfast muffins again with a dollop of home made mayo to boost fat
L - leftover 'lasagne' from last night
D - Chicken curry with spinach and mushrooms, spiced roasted cauliflower

SayraT · 15/10/2014 22:33

Thanks for all the before and afters, pisses you look great Grin

yongnian · 15/10/2014 22:51

Great photos everyone, thanks for sharing Smile
Here's today:
B: omelette made wit dbl cream, cheese and butter
L: none
D: gammon steak cooked with cream, mange tout beans and baby sweet corn with mayo and butter
S: pork scratchings and a handful of mixed nuts
W: 2.5 litres so far...
E: none
Feeling a bit low today...thinking it might be the last few days where food stocks were running low, we ran out out veg...so might be a bit more carb depleted than I really should be...going to see if my mood improves after shovelling the veg back over the next few days..I'm kinda craving it...that's not actually totally unusual for me, but ordinarily I would be eating other carbs so...we'll see

ChesterDrawers · 16/10/2014 06:59

Latest weight watch - today the bloody scales have GONE UP. Now 11st 3. I was a bit PMT bingey yesterday, although it was all allowed.

B: roast pork, whole avocado
L: left over cauli pizza
S: yog with cream and cinnamon, half a tub of olives with sundries toms, two fat bombs made with 85% choc, coconut oil, butter, almond butter
D: salmon wrapped in Parma ham, courgette fritters, glass of red wine

Did anyone see that Michael Mosely programme last night? I was very disappointed with the woman in favour of eating sat fat, she seemed scared to make a commitment.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 16/10/2014 07:12

Hello everyone,

[waves to the familiar faces]

There are a lot of very inspiring photos upthread!

Could I be a latecomer to your bootcamp? I wan't in quite the right place at the beginning- I'd triggered a week of back to back migraines by doing a fairly long (for me) mountain bike on the same day as going strictly low carb. I'd been trying to start early and I was trying to get back into ketosis in a day... it worked... but the migraines were awful and it's not an experience I'd recommend! Then I got a cold- urghhh.

Until I made the mistake of trying to go too hardcore too quickly I'd spent the summer bumbling around and failing to stick to much diet-wise and not loosing. I certainly need to be accountable, I think, which is one of the beauties of bootcamp.

So anyway, it's time to get serious again. I'm still not sure if I'm have one of those metabolisms that need to carb cycle and I certainly sleep colder on low carb. But mentally, when I'm not properly low carbing, I find it too easy to cheat, the whole carbs begetting carbs thing, and I don't loose weight.

Room for another?

SayraT · 16/10/2014 07:31

Hello Sarah nice to see you again

I am just on for a quick reply this morning, I have a seminar to give at work today and realised that I need to change some slides before I go.

Mum came for dinner last night so had to change my dinner plans, instead of plaice and broccoli we had a crustless quiche with smoked sausage and a salad. It was very nice and I have plenty left over for lunches etc.

Tanukisan · 16/10/2014 08:10

Always room for another, Sarah Grin.

I need a good talking to, please. I'm not sure I'm eating enough - and particularly not enough veg - because I'm too disorganised. Could someone critique my food? Yesterday's meals:

B: a sausage, coffee with double cream
L: avocado, feta and tomato salad (no dressing)
D: burger with mayo, buttered leeks
S: two slices of wafer ham
D: lots of water, one diet coke and one tea with milk

Tanukisan · 16/10/2014 08:15

Oh and I have a fucking stinking cold.

Meant to say, Sarah, massive sympathy for the week of migraine. I also had a couple of corkers when I started. Miserable.

BIWI · 16/10/2014 08:34

Can I just say - if you have a Leon anywhere near you/at a station near you that you're travelling from, they do a great, relatively low carb breakfast pot. Poached egg, truffle oil, gruyere and ham hock. There may have been some flour in the cheese sauce, but it was a small amount, and the whole thing was absolutely delicious!

Oh, and by the way, look at this about pasta

Apparently if you cook it, let it cool and then re-heat it, it becomes resistant starch, and has a significantly less impact on blood glucose!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/10/2014 08:41

Morning - fab photos oop there, very inspiring!

StuntNun · 16/10/2014 09:32

Potatoes and rice are the same BIWI, as an added benefit resistant starch is good for your gut health.

readyforno2 · 16/10/2014 10:57

Reall BIWI??
That is interesting. Although probably very dangerous for me as I love pasta!!

Pisseslikeahorse · 16/10/2014 11:28

morning all, thanks for nice comments Smile. DW thinks I'm a poser she lurks and checks up on me

Does anyone have a good remedy for bleeding nipple? Just done a 1.40hr long run without taping up first.

B. BPC
L. 3egg cheese mushroom omelette
D. spicy Chicken 'sort of' Burritos (in lettuce for me)

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 16/10/2014 11:37

Lansinoh? Grin

Pisseslikeahorse · 16/10/2014 13:29

Thanks Sarah feeling a bit better, but sore.

Quadrophonic · 16/10/2014 13:51

Just been for my check up at work - first time ever since losing 2st 3lb on LCHF. Very disappointed with the fat composition levels still but surely must be better than I was!

Height - 5'2
Weight - 12st 7lb
Body fat - 47 % :(
Visceral Fat - 9%
Total Cholesterol - 4.6

The body fat figure is the wake up call I need to get exercising and biuld muscle or I'm going to end up slim but unhealthy

StuntNun · 16/10/2014 13:55

Quadrophonic one thing I do regret is not being able to start exercise sooner in my weight loss journey. I was recovering from sciatica and hip bursitis so I couldn't do much for a while. But when I started the 30 day shred in the Spring I toned up very quickly which did as much for my figure and body confidence as losing weight had done. I had been left with bingo wings and my legs were slimmer but not shapely at all. A little bit of exercise (it took me 70 days to do the 30 day shred!) made all the difference in toning up my arms, legs and bum, and to a lesser extent my tummy.

Notsoskinnyminny · 16/10/2014 17:57

Evening all, thanks to everyone who's posted photos, just shows what we can achieve if we stick to the rules.

I went out for dinner with a friend who's doing SW and we sat and looked at the menu, where nearly everything came with chips, decided we didn't fancy a salad so we ordered fajitas without the wraps and they gave us a lovely salad to go with the meat. I pinched her cheese and sour cream and smothered my salad in mayo so we both went home happy. We decided to be naughty and got a bottle of wine and a couple of pints which became 6 of soda and I ended up bringing home 1/2 the bottle for DH

Rant alert - I'm on HRT so wasn't impressed when I had a 4 wk perma-period in the January BC but after that nothing and guess what I've had another visit from AF Confused

BIWI interesting article about pasta Hmm but now I'm tempted to make lasagne

cardoon · 16/10/2014 18:18

Does anyone else feel like wretching if they are in need of electrolytes?

CharlieSierra · 16/10/2014 18:57

Hello all, wish I hadn't weighed this morning as I appear to have gained a lb Confused however I had chia seeds for breakfast and things appear to be moving so hopefully it's a blip.

B - Chia seed & coconut milk pudding
L - leftover chicken curry
D - Kedgeree from the IPD diet cookbook

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 16/10/2014 19:42

Quadrophonic You should be proud of the cholesterol of 4.6 though. Do you know what it was before?

Cardoon I get terribly tired if I need salt and just oomph-less.

SMS

I have been very very hungry today, which is my own fault, obvs. I am easing myself in with BCL...

B: Egg, cheese, tomato and onion scramble. Still hungry so had greek yogurt with peanut butter.
L: 2 sausages and an avocado
S: (hungry again): more greek yogurt and peanut butter.
D: fish in butter, a swede, courgette and celeriac rosti thing that was delicious, spinach and vinaigrette.

Stats: Carbs: 30g, protein 83g, cal 1,985.

BIWI · 16/10/2014 19:52

Oooh - recipe for celeriac rosti, please!
