Thanks MrsHerculePoirot and Biwi I shall spend one evening next week getting organised Smile

StuntNun · 21/09/2014 08:17

Pupstar I buy lots of eggs, low carb veggies (mushrooms, courgettes, leeks, shallots, celery, celeriac, kale, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, baby spinach, salad leaves etc.), and high fat meats (chicken thighs, pork chops, pork belly, beef, lamb, 95% sausages and bacon. Fish is great but tends to be low fat so you always need to add butter or a sauce). I also buy full fat Greek yoghurt, cheeses (check carb counts as they can vary), cream cheese, Peperamis, olives and when on Bootcamp Light, salted almonds and 85% dark chocolate.

Breakfasts are Greek yogurt and a small quantity of defrosted mixed berries (only on Bootcamp light) or eggs or both depending on hunger. Lunches are salad with homemade vinaigrette or mayonnaise. Dinners are meat or fish and two portions of vegetables. The vegetables should either be cooked in fat or if I steam e.g. broccoli then I pour melted butter over it. Snacks are olives, leftover meat, Peperamis, celery dipped in Philadelphia, kale crisps and chicken wings (check they aren't in a sugary marinade, ideally less than 5% carbs).

HTH

Getting organised is a Really Good Thing! The secret to success with this WOE is planning ahead as, as you will discover, the world isn't designed for low carbing. Which means it isn't as straightforward as just jumping into a low calorie or low fat diet.

You will also find that if you don't already, you will need to do more of your own cooking/cooking from scratch. There are very, very, very few ready meals/salads that are low enough in carbs, as nearly all of them contain some kind of carb element - or if they don't, have flour or sugar or other ingredients which raise the carb levels too high.

count me back in! :)

have been avoiding potato, rice, pasta for last few months, only cake etc that's been tricky/irrisistible.

this time won't be AS much of a shock to my system. lOoking forward to it!

FannyBurney · 21/09/2014 09:37

Hissy, I'm getting a head start too - I've done 3 days - but not cut out wine yet...

Still, I think I've lost a lb and I've eaten so well and so MUCH: homemade mayo and lettuce; a flaxseed cheesy 'biscuit' thing I made up, dipped in baba ganoush (aubergine dip); calves liver in a creamy cayenne sauce; olive oiled roast courgettes; anchovies (not the really salty tinned sort, but the ones in the plastic pot from the deli aisle).

BIWI · 21/09/2014 09:38

Ah yes. The cutting out of wine bit is usually the hardest Grin

OP posts:
Hissy · 21/09/2014 10:55

for me, it's not really a head start, (although I have no excuse for next week now have i?) it's more of a hangover from the previous bootcamp I was on.

burger, no bun, meat, no rice, no naan. not a total abstinance, but just mindfulness.

this bootcamp won't come as too much of a surprise and won't really make that much difference to my day to day.

just no cakes/biscuits etc, and drinking more water etc!

ExCarbivore · 21/09/2014 12:37

Please can I be added to the list? I've been low carbing alone for 9 weeks and I can't believe how amazing it is! I was a total sugar fiend but I've not had any sugar or grains nor had any cravings in since starting, oh except when I went to the dental hospital and I came over all peculiar and the buggers gave me glucose!!!

I've had a bit of a stall in weight loss over the past couple of weeks so a boot camp will hopefully get things moving downwards again. Can't wait to start.

I need to join to cure my sugar addiction. Is there anyway of avoiding the headaches as I suffer quite badly with them anyway.

Tenementfunster · 21/09/2014 21:37

Please can I be added to the list. Have tried and failed to copy the list on ipad, sorry

WheatFreeNewbie · 21/09/2014 22:11

Hi there
Please can I be added to the list too?
Many thanks

LadyWithLapdog · 21/09/2014 22:51

I was looking for inspiration in the magazines section at the supermarket and I realised food mags cater for low calories, if any diet, not low carb. I know there are plenty of recipes to be found online. Just an observation.

Indeed, LadyWithLapdog. That's one of the difficulties of following this WOE, and why it's so important to plan ahead - plan your meals and plan your shopping - because the world isn't made for low carbing. We live in a world that is focused on eating lots of carbs (just look at any high street at the food outlets - all based on carbs!), and anything that's written in mainstream media about dieting is pretty much always based on calorie counting or low fat.

However, if you're looking for inspiration, don't forget we have our own recipe thread which is full of lovely stuff that should inspire you.

Can I just ask about swede? I substitute swede for potatoes, but I don't hear many people talking about swede; usually celeriac. Is there something awful about swede and low carbing I don't know about? Carb count pretty good.
