Swede is good for low carbing Tenement. I put grated swede into casseroles to thicken them.

miffy49 · 22/09/2014 12:47

I think swede is sort of on the edge of OK. The carb counts seem to vary a lot and I think its back to the issues with UK/US labelling and fibre counts. I think its 5gr/100gr which makes it a little higher than turnip or celeriac. Maybe not something for every day use.

miffy49 · 22/09/2014 13:20

I just remembered my Collins carb counter book which is a UK publication. they list turnip, swede and celeriac at 2.3gr/100g which puts them all well within Biwis guidelines of 4gr/100gr.

I love swede cooked in the microwave and then mashed with cream. Its less wet than boiling it and the cream makes it luscious. I've been experimenting with celeriac this last couple of weeks and I'm hooked on that too! I'd rather avoided it as I'm not lover of celery but its not a marked celery flavour. I love the oven chips with home made aioli and I tried the IPD celeriac dauphinois yesterday with my Sunday roast and that was pretty yummy too.

BIWI · 22/09/2014 13:22

There's a recipe for corned beef hash using celeriac, on the recipe thread, which is pretty good too!

Sounds interesting. Just got to find it now! I was having a look at that thread yesterday but only got as far as page 20! I'm rather partial to corned beef.Smile

Hissy · 22/09/2014 14:14

I'm itching to try roasted celeriac actually, and thanks for the swede tips! :)

Thanks for the reassurance on swede.
God knows I've tried to like celeriac, but it is horrible!

SixImpossible · 22/09/2014 17:00

Roasted celeriac is delicious. It's become a standard part of my roast dinners.

trashcanjunkie · 22/09/2014 17:17

Ooh please can someone add me? I'm on iPad so too stupid to copy and paste. Been bc ing like buggery and currently at lowest weight yet! Very glad to get on the group bandwagon

Just checking in to renew my commitment to the bootcamp on the 29th. My eating is horrendously bad at the moment -sugar and other crap - so it can only be upwards from here.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 23/09/2014 11:15

As is mine aNote but i decided to have the cheese bread I have been craving for some time today so looking forwards to that. Should be able to stave off the cravings next week now. I can have it at some point but i won't feel like i am missing out, another time is fine.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 23/09/2014 11:26

Camping last weekend and no real low carb food options to make. Plus I was with Knotty and we seemed to sink a lot of gin followed by most of a bottle of rum. And as she's not on this thread, I shall blame her!

Still, now my hangover has cleared I'm ready to think about what I'm doing again. :)

HumphreyCobbler · 23/09/2014 11:30

I have been derailed a bit by babycobbler suddenly feeding all night after having nearly stopped and, more embarrassingly by Abergavenny food festival!

Am back on the wagon now though.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 23/09/2014 12:50

ponygirlcurtis · 23/09/2014 15:16

Oooooh, hadn't realised this thread had started already, have been lounging around the post-last-bootcamp thread! Smile
I lost 12lbs on the last bootcamp and I've kept it off - have largely continued the LC WOE (no bread, biscuits, cake, potatoes or pasta for me for about 2 months now) but have let the water-drinking get a bit slack, and occasionally a little bit of loads of chocolate has crept in. Plus the wine. Oh the wine. Grin But this weekend can be my last huzzah and then I'll get back on it proper-like.
I don't think I can ever go back to eating the way I used to, even a small amount of non-veg carbs makes me feel distinctly bleurgh now. I don't get hungry any more and I feel full after my meals without feeling bloated. Lovely! Many thanks as always to the fab BIWI for her part in my awakening!

Have added myself to the list.

BreakingBod · 23/09/2014 16:16

Could someone please add me, I'm on ipad.

I'm very apprehensively joining, my diet is shockingly bad, full of sugar and crappy snacks with very few proper meals really. I've attempted LC before, but as it's such a drastic change I always cave in a couple of days in. I'm hopeful that if I join BC it'll keep me on the straight and narrow...!

BreakingBod · 23/09/2014 17:15

To celebrate my commitment I'm now preparing a lovely LC evening meal, instead of the crackers and houmous I was going to have. I think my body's actually craving veg so I'm giving myself a double helping of sprouts and cauliflower Grin

ponygirlcurtis · 23/09/2014 17:54

Here you go Breaking, added you. You can do this!
