Can I join too? I have stopped caffeine, and have been aiming for low sugar low carb, but need support. Losing 20lbs would be good too.

You can still have coffee - but milk can make it very carby - try drinking it with double cream instead

Hi BIWI

I would really like to join in too but I'm starting an IVF cycle on 1st October so I'm not sure if it would be ok or not?

Is this WOE suitable for a hopefully soon to be pregnant person
I really could do with losing some weight or at least limiting what I put on and I am heavily reliant on bread pastries and chocolate carbs at the moment Sad

Lifeisforliving · 19/09/2014 12:16

Hi BIWI

Yes please!!! Going somewhere hot with DD and DD's best mate to celebrate her 16th Birthday. Say no more Smile...

YouremywifenowDave, I'd say it would be actually very good to do coming up to your IVF cycle as it's a v healthy woe and lots of veg and protein, very good for embryo!
But perhaps seek medical advice as it may not be the best idea to radically change your diet at this stage??

BIWI · 19/09/2014 13:04

YoureMyWifeNowDave - eek! I really don't know. I'm not a medical/scientific/nutrition expert, so don't know what to say. I'd talk to your GP/consultant first, if I were you.

That said, there's nothing wrong with starting to limit your refined carbs, so cutting down on bread/pasta/rice/potatoes/chocolate/sugar/alcohol a little

And good luck!!!

OP posts:
gointothewoods · 19/09/2014 13:19

YouremywifenowDave, are you starting down reg and then stims in October or actually doing the egg collection etc in early October?
Cause am thinking if you just starting the process in October you would be over a month into that WOE by the time you hit egg collection/ fert/ transfer stage, so you would know by then if you were feeling more healthy etc on this diet?
Can you tell I've been there, done that?! (Very luckily I have a 7 yr old DD from my 2nd cycle)

Goingtothewoods I'm starting downreg in October it's not a full cycle so no egg collection just hopefully transfer sometime around the end of October/beginning of November

I'm thinking maybe just cutting out processed and refined carbs rather than going the whole hog might be better so I'm not sure if posting on here will be ok but I find I do so much better with support someone to kick my backside Grin

Dave the consensus in the low carb community seems to be that low carb - high fat in pregnancy is fine but you will need a bit more carbs, definitely above 50g a day, to stay out of ketosis. So during pregnancy you can add some e.g. fruit, sweet potato, milk to the Bootcamp light rules. That probably holds true for breastfeeding as well since glucose is a precursor for lactose. Be aware though that if you get morning sickness you might find that all you can stomach are carbs, carbs and more carbs so Bootcamp might go out the window for the first trimester.

YouremywifenowDave low carbing may help reduce inflammation in the body and smooth out energy supplies, as well as giving you lots of protein, really helpful in IVF. Lots of fertility books recommend cutting out refined sugar, gluten and processed foods for these reasons. So I'd see it as a very positive move as you get ready for your IVF cycle. (Low carb newbie but IVF veteran). Really good luck!

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/09/2014 14:44

Youremywifenowdave I got pregnant whilst low carbing last summer. I eat low carb to manage my blood sugars (diabetes). I did what stuntnun suggest above and just added in a small amount to keep myself out of ketosis once I found out. Initially this was usually at breakfast only - so used to have a slice of wholemeal toast with boiled or poached eggs and mushrooms as opposed to just the eggs and mushrooms. Sometimes I used to have wholemeal toast and marmite instead - mostly because when I worked I found breakfast the hardest to eat whilst also trying to get everybody out the house on time!!!!! I tended not to have many carbs at lunch or tea, but did add in a banana or Apple as afternoon snack as the pregnancy progressed. I didn't manage to keep it up for the whole way though as once I started introducing more carbs for me it was a bit of a slippery slope!!!!!

Pupstar · 20/09/2014 19:57

Please add me &DH to the list.

Quick Q about water - can peppermint tea count towards water intake? I'm going to struggle to cut out tea and coffee, and don't think I can face 3L of plain water a day.

Is there a meal plan for bootcamp? Would make life easier too (DH does the shopping)

pupster ideally just drinking water is best, but peppermint tea is I think fine. Other things to try are some slices of cucumber in water or slices of lemon, if you put in a jug and leave for a short while it is cool and refreshing and not just like tap water somehow.

I have a feeling there were some suggested menu plans somewhere, hopefully someone can come and help there. If not, then plan things you know you will like. Post your menus here if you like in advance and you'll get lots of useful feedback on them!

If it helps Generally we have eggs, bacon, mushrooms, omlettes in various combos for breakfasts. Lunch tends to be a salad with some kind of topping (think sandwich filling, meats, fish, cheeses, leftovers from dinner) either with olive oil or mayo (sometimes make pesto Mayo too). Dinner tends to be meat or fish with vegetables drenched in salted butter of various varieties. At the weekend I then sometimes try to be a little more adventurous and cook something (like the butter chicken from the IPD cookbook for example).

BIWI · 20/09/2014 22:18

pupstar there isn't a meal plan, but have a look at the recipe thread that should give you some inspiration!
