Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Where the End is Almost in Sight!

Morning all!

Hope that you had a good week and that the scales are kind to you today.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and/or on the Weight Tracker

So we have four more weeks left. A focused effort could see another four or even eight pounds disappear. Which would be 8 or 16 packs of lard!

Just to keep you focused on that, here's a picture of just one measly pound of fat. Imagine losing four of these - or how much eight of them might be Grin

So having said I won't eat dairy, I decided to do so. This last week I've been so exhausted and in pain and asking myself to deprive myself so much is too hard. I think that's why I was wanting to binge so much. If I don't lose weight for a week or two, it's no drama.

Breakfast was bacon and eggs; absolutely lovely
Lunch was a salad with avocado and haloumi and a bowl of Greek yogurt. Absolutely scrumptious.

I figure I have to take care of myself for a bit, until I'm out of this difficult patch. Everything quietens down from here so it should get easier. I won't be feeling so sorry for myself if I have a week or two of nice cheese and yogurt. Being mindful of the protein in cheese though and not eating it in addition to another protein source at the same meal.

lowcarbforthewin · 19/06/2014 18:20

Oh and I find fasting too hard too. Makes my fatigue absolutely crash. I do think there are great health benefits to it if you can stick it, but I'd rather feel well.

spamm · 19/06/2014 18:29

OMG OMG - I have to report this, although I am in the office and am supposed to be working on something.

I can take wrestle my wedding ring off. That is the first time in about 5 years. Cannot get my engagement ring off yet, but small achievements. I bloody hope I can get my wedding ring back on now, or DH might not be very amused! Grin

lowcarbforthewin · 19/06/2014 19:03

Ha brilliant Spamm. It's little things like that that make you feel so proud. My proud moment of the day is flashing my pants at some shoppers. My skirt keeps falling down and showing them to everyone Blush I should be more embarrassed than I am! am mostly chuffed. Though it is a pain as it's a v nice skirt. Sure I can take it in!

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 19/06/2014 19:22

lowcarb look after yourself! It sounds like a good decision to put dairy back in for a bit. I'm sure that dairy won't put any weight on and managing cravings is hugely important to long term success (I'm sure you know that though with the amount you've lost). Well done on the falling down skirt Grin

Spamm Yay for loose rings!

StuntNun · 19/06/2014 19:52

Well done Spamm and Lowcarbforthewin, definite achievements there!

B: tea (lots), scrambled eggs, strawberries, Greek yoghurt and cream, BPC
L: broccoli and Stilton (last day before the groceries are delivered!)
S: pork scratchings and 10g 85% chocolate
D: barbecued steak and salad with homemade dressing, more coffee and tea (It's been one of those days)

miffy49 · 19/06/2014 20:34

Lowcarbforthewin you are not alone! I didn't last on the dairy front either! I decided to compromise. I still have my yoghurt and cream once a day and I will have some cheese but I will be more mindful and keep it for a meal rather than snacking on it. Its so useful. I prefer eggs and cheese to meat and its sustaining. A simple cheese omelette will keep me going for ages.

lowcarbforthewin · 19/06/2014 21:00

Dairy is just so much easier to prepare too. A bowl of yogurt when you're too tired to eat is such a relief. As is cutting off a hunk of cheese rather than preparing meat.

Is it wrong I'm already looking forward to some yogurt tomorrow? Wink

lowcarbforthewin · 19/06/2014 21:01

Too tired to cook eggs that should say. Too tired to eat? Never!

IrianofWay · 19/06/2014 21:02

I could not cut out all dairy - I love it.I am not a great meat lover but cheese and yoghurt are essential to me!!!

Supermum0203 · 19/06/2014 21:13

Hi sexy ladies out there..!!

SPAMM, this is fantastic ... carry on like that and you will have to downsize all your rings ...:) I'm wearing one that my ex boyfriend gave me 19 years ago and there is no way to take it off unless I chop my finger...dh is not very happy about it, but as far as I'm concern, that's his problem, not mine.. :)

SAYRA T and MIFFY, : I'm pretty sure that the mirrors in fitting rooms are deform or is something wrong with the lights or I don't know , but it is very surreal and dramatic about trying on clothes in such a tiny space...never mind today was a new day in I'm in high spirits.

Very busy today as we have had an assembly for year 6 and after that we have had a few celebrations at school

Like some of you, I did the 5:2 too. I bought the book and read it till the end , but I coudnt substain to count cals. ... I hate it..!! I need to do something where you don't have to count nothing. Also , I did for a while the ABC diet and again I had to count different numbers of cals everyday and got fed up of that one
So food for today was;
B - 7.00- two boiled eggs and half avocado
S- 11.00- a small piece of cheese and a tbs of clotted cream
D- 5.30- smoked salmon, cucumber and 2 tbs of mayo.
Water; 2.5 ltrs.

BIWI · 19/06/2014 22:10

Supermum - where is your lunch?! Where is your veg?! You still aren't eating enough. This isn't about depriving yourself. You need to eat more and properly.

Supermum0203 · 19/06/2014 22:58

Hi BIWI...:)
The thing is I have a BIG problem with lunches. I work from 8 till 1pm. When I finish I'm heading the gym until 3 .00 that I have to pick ds1 at school at 3.15. After this I have to wait for ds2 who arrives in school bus at 4.15. And then, I drive home and get there at 4.45 . At this time is when I have lunch or dinner, I'm not quite sure how to name it, and then I won't eat again until 7.am next day.

Not everyday I'm going to the gym, only 2-3 times a week. The others days , I'm doing food shopping or meeting some friends for coffee.
I don't mind to skip lunch as I'm not hungry and on the other hand, I come from a country where we don't eat at 12 or 1.
And I have had cucumber today...!!!
:) :)

BIWI · 19/06/2014 23:19

It's not just the lack of lunch though - it's lack of food in general. And very limited veg/salad. You won't lose weight eating like this and it's not a healthy way to eat.

OP posts:
readyforno2 · 19/06/2014 23:35

B - coffee with cream
L - salad with chicken and bacon mayo, cheese and egg mayo
D - salad with asparagus, prosciutto and mozzarella

Was at the personal trainer this morning before breakfast, he's pushing me pretty hard at the moment and I'm loving it.. Does that make me weird?

SayraT - yep, just about to paint my toenails white so it shows up in the uv light!
I'm so jealous that you're at the highland show. Trying to convince dp it's a good idea to go on Saturday I love it! Really want a pair of the wisemans wellies with the matching socks Blush

readyforno2 · 19/06/2014 23:36

Forgot snacks..
Baby cucumbers with chilli/garlic salt

StuntNun · 20/06/2014 11:15

Does anyone have any tips for surviving holidays? I will be in Tenerife for a week in the summer and I'm not sure how easy it will be to keep Bootcamping. We usually go self-catering so it's no problem but this year it will be half board.

antimatter · 20/06/2014 11:20

I would perhaps check what their menu is for meals and see if any is suitable for you.

I think in the heat you will drink lots of water so that would be sorted Grin

IrianofWay · 20/06/2014 11:35

Re missing meals, I wonder if I am causing myself a problem. I eat breakfast and lunch but often by the time the evening comes, I've got home, taken dog for walk or run etc I am simply not hungry. I might nibble a bit of chorizo or some cheese and celery but I really don't want to force myself to eat when I am not hungry - it seens counterproductive.

Weight is coming off though.

Scousadelic · 20/06/2014 12:05

I have always thought (although not sure if it is true) that there is a point with low carb, as with all diets, where your food intake is restricted enough that you stray into the territory where your body thinks it is starving and starts to conserve nutrition and the whole point of low carbing is to lose weight while avoiding that

No danger of that for me! Grin Yesterday was:
B - 3 rashers streaky bacon and 2 eggs scrambled with cream and butter
L - 1 minute steak, salad, avocado with aioli and sprinkled with a few seeds
T - Roast chicken, creamed leeks, broccoli
Naughtiness of the day was a few sugar-free sweeties Blush

Thanks for the exercise suggestion Pisses, I've not seen that one before so might have a go

IrianofWay · 20/06/2014 12:26

I have always found that starvation mode a bit odd. If your body goes into calorie conservation mode surely there would be some impact on you - ie you'd have no energy and wouldn't be able to do exercise or simply carry on with the things you have to do. And when I've been on other diets I have never NOT been hungry so I have never been able to test it out. I assumed that I wasn't hungry because I had eaten enough that day.

LittleMissDisorganized · 20/06/2014 13:11

Hi everyone,
Still plodding along here.

Irian my natural eating clock is like that, hungry at breakfast and lunch time, less so in the evening. As long as you're eating enough, ie, your full daily intake, in that time, you're effectively doing 16:8 just a different way round from how most people do it. I'm a lark not an owl so it's fairly natural for me to eat like that.
Stunt - breakfast is usually easy, isn't it, as long as their "continental" isn't all about cereals and croissants. It's probably a very mediterranean sort of diet - if you have the facilities you could get some yogurt and maybe even freeze it, and pick what you can from dinner, whilst mindfully enjoying what you choose that you wouldn't usually have. It has to be worth it, doesn't it? And you'll lose it again. My experience last week is that anyone's bowels, without wheat for months like mine had been and yours are, will react to it's reintroduction. I'll be taking my own advice in the future :)
I've lost all but half a pound of last week's holiday gain. It comes off. It's that half a stone of glycogen in the liver thing - unless you eat beyond hunger, which I didn't this time, but that will put fat back on, won't it? You know ALL this stuff better than me!!!
lowcarbforthewin food is meant to be enjoyable!! - so it's fine to be looking forward to it! I think it's hard to remember that joy is all good if we've had a slightly dysfunctional relationship with food though.

I'm enjoying the tennis and preparing for a busy weekend at church with various commitments/ responsibilities.

pingufan · 20/06/2014 14:56

Hi all, popping after a busy few days

Still plodding on - was very pleased to see that I am now below 13st on the scales this morning 12st 13lb to be exact. Another 2lbs and I will have lost 2st!

Can't remember the last time I was out of the 'teens'.

Am finding this is just a way of life now - not obsessing so much over it all. My fridge has never looked healthier, all full of meats and fresh veg, eggs & salad and hubby has lost 1/2 a stone too by just cutting back on carbs for breakfast etc.

Hope you are all doing well :) xx

lowcarbforthewin · 20/06/2014 15:29

Well done Pingu, that is great!
I managed to maintain on the last two holidays I went on. I and carbs for breakfast but stayed low carb the other meals. Tbh a lot of other countries have this eating healthily thing sorted and there will be much more Mediterranean food on offer; yogurts, meats, cheeses, lots of veg. I think I let myself have two puddings because it is a holiday, but sticking to low carb 80% of the time worked.

I had some blood test results back by text today, bit shocked though I shouldn't be. My crp is raised. It has been for the last 20 years given that I have chronic pain. I guess I just think of low carbing as sorting things like that out, and I'm dismayed it hear it is elevated still. Long term it gives you a much higher risk of heart disease and they need to keep an eye on your kidneys too? I just think if low carbing hasn't brought it down, what am I supposed to do? I suppose it's lucky they're worrying more about inflammation levels these days, I just hate that I've had this issue for 20 years doing damage and it's never been sorted. I'm just scared of having more health issues long term I guess. Makes it even more important to get the weight off.

Supermum0203 · 20/06/2014 15:50

Hi ladies!
Bad day, regarding health, so far. I wasn't feeling ok yesterday and not today. I thing I have a cold, although I'm not in pain, but overall I don't fell well. And it's funny because I'm the type of person who doesn't catch a cold at all, and all of of the sudden this stupid thing, just one day before the christening , and the worst of all is that the celebration is in my house and I have to cater for 15 people.
Never mind, you have to do what you have to do :)

Regarding the conversation about skiping some meals, I agree with some of you about that. I'm ok with breakfast, but I have said in other post, my next meal is about 5 in the afternoon and after that, I'm not hungry for dinner, do Ivan see why we can go without food , as I wouldn't say you are starving if your brain is not sending you any signals about food... That's my opinion . Am I wrong??

Anyway food today;
B-7 -2 eggs+half avocado+ 1tbs oil
L/D- 3.30- smoked salmon, salad+ lots of mayo.
Water so far 2 ltrs but I will drink more
