It's really too soon Minty. I know it's hard when you see other people losing weight but some people just take longer to adapt to this WOE than others. It depends on so many factors: how overweight you are, what you were eating before, whether you were dieting before, if you've taken up exercise recently, what medications you are taking, how much sleep you're getting, how stressed you are. There isn't any magic about a low carb diet, ultimately it still boils down to eating less calories than you expend. If your metabolism is deranged at all, for example insulin resistance, slow metabolic rate, then it could take a while for your body to be able to recognise it has available fat stores and start to use them. Without knowing your history it's difficult to know what the cause may be but the treatment is the same: stick to the rules, weigh yourself no more than weekly and take your measurements. Do you see any difference at all such as a flatter stomach because of less bloating?

Brody STEP AWAY FROM THE CARBY STUFF! It will still be there when you've lost the weight. It is NOT the last one on the world.

JaneParker · 14/05/2014 15:59

Had two square of 60% chocolate and wish I hadn't. I received unsolicited two exquisitely wrapped boxed presents with ribbons, the works... in the post after lunch. Inside were 2 bars. I thought it was mostly cocao. No idea who sent them. Ate 2 squares and have given the rest to my 3 sons.

It is just like with heroin addiction - they give it to you free to hook you in and then once you are hooked you want and they push on you more and more; thus is it like with sugar in our society but no one takes it seriously because it's chocolate not heroin even though the addictive effect is very similar. it is peddled and pushed on us at every turn. it has had an immediate hyper effect on me and I am hot. Glad I gave the rest away and haven't eaten it.

brodyboo · 14/05/2014 16:10

Thank you Stunt and Minty, have done so well, full week tomorrow and am already feeling the benefits,

DD1 brought still warm flapjack home from school and aargh it smelt good! Anyway had spoonfull of coconut cream and tea is on (bolognaise stuffed mushrooms and salad) so disaster averted!

Sneaky carby twat moments, always lurking to trip us up! Anyways weigh in for me tomorrow so hopefully that give me the motivation to stay on track.

StuntNun · 14/05/2014 16:12

Minty if you have PCOS then it is absolutely worth you giving this WOE a good attempt as it could make a drastic improvement to your health. I would say it's unsurprising that you haven't lost weight if you have insulin-resistance. Your pancreas is probably still lobbing out insulin willy-nilly at this point which prevents your body from accessing its fat stores. In addition you may have leptin-resistance, particularly if you are overweight or obese. If you have leptin-resistance then your brain can't detect how big your fat stores are. This can lead to an over-consumption of calories since your brain mistakenly thinks you are undernourished. Adaptation to a low carb diet is a complex process: your digestive system needs a completely different set of digestive enzymes, your pancreas needs to produce less insulin, your brain has to start running on ketones, your muscles start using ketones then free fatty acids and decrease their number of glucose receptors, even your mitochondria start to function in a different way. Definitely stick with the rules, particularly the water as that's really important, and just give it more time. You may find you need to stick with Bootcamp for longer, and it's possible you may have to keep your carbs to a lower level similar to how a diabetic would low carb. But Minty please don't get discouraged, you've already seen health benefits after a week. I would do this WOE just for the health benefits I get, the weight loss is an added bonus.

IWillIfHeWill · 14/05/2014 17:01

Didn't so much fall off the wagon this afternoon as jump headfirst with gay abandon into a carbfest. Blush
Will be back on track tomorrow, starting from scratch.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 14/05/2014 17:24

Ok this morning I woke up with total birdcage mouth. Been gulping water and green tea all day. As soon as I stop, Sahara desert again. I'm hoping this is proper ketosis setting in and the whoosh is coming.
Proper sweet cravings today. I was off dairy but rather jump into the hotel chocolat tasting box, I had a small bowl (like 4 spoons) cream with a touch of vanilla paste in. Cravings all gone.
Dinner either more chicken leek soup or some sausages.

Best1sWest · 14/05/2014 17:30

Thank you BIWI. One thing I have been doing the last few days (can't remember who suggested it on the week one thread) is measuring my water in a jug so it's easier to keep track rather than just chugging it from a bottle all day. Also realised that the glasses I was using at home were 330 ml not 500 ml so I may have been drinking too little for the first four or five days.

costababe · 14/05/2014 17:31

Come on get a grip people, this part of boot camp is only two weeks out of our lives!
We are all stronger than that, back away from the carby shite, man up and drink water, waterGrin

Ok giving the stick back to BIWI
Probably not my place!

Best1sWest · 14/05/2014 17:37

Also, relating to what Stunt says above, I have an underlying health problem which can cause insulin resistance and dehydration, though it isn't PCOS, so like Minty, maybe my body is still adjusting. I feel fine though and have no problem avoiding the carbs ATM. Even watched DH eat a Portuguese custard tart this afternoon and they are one of my favourite thing and I wasn't tempted to even have a crumb.

costababe · 14/05/2014 17:37

Off to make something yummy for tea, thinking chicken, bacon mushrooms in a creamy pepper sauce with green beans,
Lunch was salad and a burger cooked in butter
Breakfast eggs and butter,
2 litres of water, one tea no sugar and
a ghastly fruit tea bleurg, nope not having that again
Any recommendations re herbal teas?? Please??

StuntNun · 14/05/2014 17:41

Costa Mighty Leaf Tea are pricey but taste amazing. I bought the selection box thinking I would try them and buy more of the ones I like. It actually I like all of them. They make a palatable chamomile tea which I didn't previously think was possible. Their rooibos tea is a cut above too.

FolknNorah · 14/05/2014 17:48

Just saying hi! minty try measuring instead of weighing? It's working for me, 6cm off my waist last week.
I'm on this WOE because I feel so much better. I hav managed to stay away from the scales and feel happier for it.

Still struggling with water, but getting there, bit weird though, not normally a problem.
Had a couple of I really really wAnt that moments today, but stayed strong Grin

Hope everyone is well and stay a way from the fucking carbs.

brodyboo · 14/05/2014 17:52

Ok so now I have had my arse kicked can I ask a TMI question? Since starting I have haf loose bowels but am now passing green anf yellow loose stools with somr very dark parts in too. Is this normal for low carb newbies.

StuntNun · 14/05/2014 18:22

Is there any way to cook pork belly slices that doesn't render them chewily inedible? I've tried roasting, grilling and deep frying them and my teefs just aren't up to it.

Parsnipcake · 14/05/2014 18:25

stuntnun I roast them with stock to keep them moist, very low heat for hours. They melt.

trashcanjunkie · 14/05/2014 18:45

can't read the thread. Got shocking gastric something. All thought of food making stomach cramps worse. Just wanted to say well done losers and see you when I feel better x

prettybird · 14/05/2014 19:04

Stuntnun - I'm glad it's not just me who has problems with chewy pork belly slices! Grin

StuntNun · 14/05/2014 19:09

Thanks Parsnip, just with a bit of stock and covered with foil? Would two hours at 150 be about right?

lowcarbforthewin · 14/05/2014 19:25

So glad I made it through today. Ended up having some yogurt at tea time, I felt like I needed something a bit more substantial than olives. I think tea is my biggest problem. I'm so exhausted at that time of the day I can't tell if I'm hungry or knackered. But if I eat when I'm just knackered I'm getting more food than I need.

It's been a stressful day. I have a gas leak and am now waiting for people to come and check it. Rarr.

In other news I am going out on Friday night (doesn't happen often) and I have a new dress to wear. I feel great in it so I can't wait to get to wear it out. I feel very trim in it!

SnowieBear · 14/05/2014 19:26

trashy keep well darling...

BIWI you will love San Sebastian! And Spanish food can be very LC friendly as well as tasty and fresh, choose your off piste moments wisely and enjoy (mindfully, of course... .

My enforced carb-fest is over, at last... this bear is dusting herself off and getting back on the saddle in time for dinner.
