Week 9 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The End is Nigh!

BIWI · 10/03/2014 07:41

Morning all!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And don't forget the Weight Tracker

As we get to the end of this Bootcamp, I'd like you all to think about how MNHQ can make our space even better for the next time around.

The original plan was to move to the Weight Tracker and drop the Spreadsheet, which would mean Willie wouldn't have to tend it all the time - but we seem to have kept it going for this Bootcamp. If we were to lose it next time, what do you think you would miss the most?

For me, I think definitely the information in the tabs needs to be transferred over somehow - but is there anything else you'd like to see?

Anyway, a busy week for me as I'm off to Lille Tuesday/Wednesday, up at 5.00 am tomorrow and not getting back home till around 10.00 pm on Wednesday. All I will see will the inside of a taxi, a French supermarket, an office block and another taxi - no time even to go out for dinner on Tuesday night!

And I have no idea what's going to happen on the food front as it's all out of my control But then, that's what this WOE is all about - making the best choices we can at the time.

So - good luck to you all, hope that the fine weather helps you have a great week Flowers

I had toast today at work because I was totally unprepared. I thought I was having a heart attack after wards. I had to take gaviscon. I need to accept I cannot eat wheat anymore.

SnowieBear · 12/03/2014 21:54

Felix glad you liked it Smile.

Vous etes tres silly moos. Thanks for brigthening my day beautiful, phatty vipers, you are all fab! Thanks

SnowieBear · 12/03/2014 21:58

eva well done woman! Public speaking gets easier the more you SYS Grin especially if you know what you're talking about and feel passionate. Woo hoo. Oh and empty my mind.... Hmm

notso that sounds like nobheads yoga if you ask me! They are clearly the ones missing out if you aren't allowed back. My class is bizzarre and excellent. The teacher knows me from when I was very young - not hugely , but she's kind of like a distant relative that you never see, but then are instantly comfortable with. She' fuckin' loopy but in an excellent informed and safe feeling way.

Par example

Hi all, hope you 're all well?
That sounds exciting trash do you think it might be finished by the weekend?
biwi hmmmm, interesting, you are teasing us.

Crap days and nights at the moment, didn't eat anything yesterday, managed a couple of decaf BPC's and my water but felt to icky for anything else. I caved and had some chocolate though, and felt like I was going to throw up all the rest of the day.
At least I now deserve to have not lost anything Sad
SO, strict bootcamp for me, lots of water then hopefully onwards and downwards.

CrabbySpringyBottom · 13/03/2014 08:56

Thanks for the suggestions Eva and MrsHP. I'm trying to combine Low GI/GL and Low Carb for now, but I've really no idea how that's going to work out on the scales. My tummy definitely feels bigger. Sad

Interesting article Thumb.

LMiss you should have that belt mounted and framed!

Welcome Felix. Smile

Notso am Envy would love to visit Japan.

Trashy Grin at kebabs being made of rusk and cat ash!

Loving all the French chat. Grin

BIWI what I reckon would work rather well is a Bootcamp book which brings together all the information, resources and rules of bootcamp into one easy-to-read whole so that it's a comprehensive guide for people starting bootcamp. Then lots of beautifully illustrated low carb recipes, incorporating some from the recipe thread. Just an idea. Wink

HeirToTheIronThrone · 13/03/2014 08:57

The girl who sits opposite me at work is giving me the Hmm as I am currently eating leftover celeriac dauphinoise for breakfast. More fool her, it's bloody lovely - this recipe if anyone wants to try it.

Trying to claw my way back on the wagon, my actual meals are fine but more and more not so little slips are creeping in - couple of biscuits here, little bit of pudding there...

Trash I KNOW I AM SO EXCITED! Have you read the books? There is so much good stuff coming up that I can't wait to see how they do it the series. Also, here is my claim to fame: my SIL went to school with the actor who is Jon Snow (nnngggghhhhh)

Southsearocks · 13/03/2014 09:12

Still here! Still going although a few days of carb heaven recently. Looking forward already to the next bootcamp.

I like the spreadsheet better. It's helpful to see how other people are doing and if they are not big losers, like me, at least they are keeping going as well. So it is motivating. But I appreciate it is time consuming for Willie (thank you so much Willie for doing it this time).

I'll have a proper read later!

ElmaFudd · 13/03/2014 09:33

Hi all - long time lurker, first time poster. I've been doing LC since August last year, after realising that I needed to seriously get my act together w.r.t. food. Too boring to go into detail, but between EDs and yo-yo dieting, I had lost the plot when it came to nourishment. Plus I have the family history of Type 2 diabetes so knew that if I kept on doing the same thing, the future was going to be challenging on the health front.

The good news - eating and attitude to food is hugely improved. I love this WoE, look a lot better (bye bye bloating!), and can see that it works.

The bad news - not losing weight. I thought I was taking the scenic route (i.e. slower weight loss but a few treats like wine and 85% chocolate to keep me on the LC wagon) but I think I got lost. Need to knuckle down, stop kidding myself that I can eat three big meals and then have wine and chocolate and still lose weight...duh!

Anyway - only putting all this down as there might be others out there like me and it might help someone to know that. As it would me. Thanks to everyone on this and the older threads for all the advice - I really believe that despite the poor show on the scales I have come a looooonnnnggg way since August and my relationship with food is massively improved. If I can (and I will) focus on the Bootcamp principles, I sincerely believe I will lose the two stone that have plagued me for the last 10 years!

Piscivorus · 13/03/2014 10:44

I like the spreadsheet too. It is motivating to see other people keeping on keeping on too!

FelixFelix · 13/03/2014 11:02

Morning everyone! I feel like a zombie this morning with my dd waking up constantly through the night Confused

I've input my food to MFP for yesterday and the carbs are 45 (which I think is good??) but calories are 2700 ShockShockShock I know you're not meant to count calories but should I be keeping an eye on them? What's too little and what's too much?

Also I have the tendency to become a bit constipated in general life. I know LC affects this massively for me as I've done it before (albeit in the form of a VLCD). I used to take psyllium husks and have a massive tub left. Are these ok to have or should I be having something else to keep me regular?

FelixFelix · 13/03/2014 11:03

Sorry just realised I should have asked questions on the other thread! Need coffee...

EvaTheOptimist · 13/03/2014 11:35

Hello Elma and well done

Felix I think that psyllium husks are OK, I'm sure I've seen them mentioned before. I would advocate taking whatever constipation cures you need. Other things that help are keeping the water intake right up and eating enough fat.

LittleMissDisorganized · 13/03/2014 11:38

Felix Psyllium husks is a really good way to help with the constipation (they make me very nauseous bit if you've taken them before with good effect then great) and start them before you feel constipated. I also use a bit of milled linseed in my yogurt/ other cooking to bulk up the fibre

The qn thread is so that questions don't get missed not because we'll tell you off :)

Je suis bien amuse avec le Franglais en ce thread, est-ce qu'il faut cesser maintenant? (was that second bit right, Heir, je sui tres rusty despite avoir etudier Francais professionel nearly dix ans ago)

Love the idea of a book with a it of Crabby and BIWI collaboration!

This time last year, I was going through an incredibly difficult time (as Crabby knows as I inadvertantly gave her the link to my blog by liking hers!!) and during that time was when the comfort eating really overtook me and I put a stone and a half on in probably barely 3 months. Puddings, biscuits, potato and bread and pasta in all its forms, proper stuffing the feelings away. The one year mark is here and I have had some weepy times this week including this morning. There are hot cross buns in the house and the shopping came yesterday so I am stocked up, obviously including plenty of low carb food as well as DH's temptations carby additions. I have had 4 squares of Lindt 85% over the course of the morning, really trying to choose not to dive into the rubbish, because it would prove that I've not learned anything.

I'm wittering just for a bit of handholding (sorry for not explaining all - happy to if it's just not making sense) and understanding, because I think, here, people get the need to use food as comfort.

I'm writing, talking, drawing, instead. I'm seeing a friend this afternoon so I have learned much, really.

FelixFelix · 13/03/2014 11:49

Thank you for the advice! I'll venture down in to the cellar and dig out the medical box which has the tub of psyllium husks in. It's dark and scary down there Shock

Littlemiss I'm also a massive emotional eater. Although I eat when I'm sad, happy, anxious, anything really. I got in to a very bad habit of eating something nice to 'cheer me up' when I was down. I think keeping yourself busy is key. When I was following a VLCD and trying to get out of the habit of snacking out of boredom, I'd take myself off for a bubble bath and then paint my nails or read a book (or even do some housework!!!). It sounds like you're taking the right steps to keep yourself occupied so hopefully it will keep your mind off things and away from the hot cross buns! SmileThanks

Ambassadoryouarespoilingme · 13/03/2014 12:06

Morning all! I have been a bit off track with the thread in the last week following a manic work / sick child / triathlon training sessions. Despite descending into carb chaos on Saturday, I got back on track on Sunday and dropped 1.8lbs last week so now 10.8lbs in total. Now of course I wish it was more, but its still 6% of the total body, so I have to celebrate that at least. Seems its the same few lbs up and down each week.
I'm exercising hard 4-5 times a week and wonder if this is slowing the weight loss on the scales. But the jeans feel a bit looser so there are small mercies.
HOpe you are all doing ok - sorry I haven't read back properly and taken in all the news, but wishing you happy nutrition and will catch up properly soon.

EvaTheOptimist · 13/03/2014 12:06

LittleMiss I totally get the comfort-eating, emotional eating, even boredom eating thing. Damage limitation by going to cheese or olives or other low-carb snacks is definitely better than carbs or choc.

Its a constant process isn't it.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 13/03/2014 12:44

LittleMiss je crois qu c'est correcte mais je suis tres rusty aussi, il y a preque dix ans que j'etais etudiante [visage de choc!]

Felix I find doing my nails a brilliant one, as I then can't open packets etc for a good hour for fear of smudging :) My friend's DC's (millions of them are pregnant) are also benefitting from my displacement knitting.

I have been shocking the past few days. Need a good heft back on to the wagon. Might have had a slight revelation as to the need for a good breakfast - had leftovers this morning due to laziness, and it's keeping me much fuller than my usual yogurt - not hungry for lunch yet at all.

Lighthousekeeping · 13/03/2014 13:08

When is the next boot camp?

EverythingIsAwesome · 13/03/2014 13:14

Craving lamb and mint! How weird is that. Can't stop thinking about it, so having lamb with mint gravy & green beans for lunch. I love this woe [heart]

EverythingIsAwesome · 13/03/2014 13:28

Planning on making cottage pie topped with dauphinoise swede for dinner, do you think that would work?
