Here's The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And The Weight Tracker

By now, if everyone has been following Bootcamp/Bootcamp Light rules properly then we should all be keto-adapted, and should be burning fat. Yippee!!

Hope everyone has a good week.

I agree, the best part of LC is being able to eat proper food!

(I was going to post more but DS has demanded I make a boat so I'm off. Happy Valentines eveyone)

Thumbwitch · 14/02/2014 16:31

BIg fail today - children's party, had rice crackers and rice chips and then cake. Oh god it was good - I was all like "caaaaaake" and oohing and sighing over it (very moist GF chocolate cake with chocolate icing).
So then I came home and cooked roast duck dinner with swede chips (we actually only have 1 small spud in the house as I haven't been buying them!) but had a glass of red wine with it because it took so effing long to cook. And then had some of DH's valentine's chocolates (I gave them to him, not the other way around) just because.

Tomorrow is another day and I will be back on track again. :)

ChesterDrawers · 14/02/2014 16:41

Think I need to go dairy free again, I just can't stop myself at a ittle bit. Just had a big chunk of Wensleydale and a big chunk of Brie with my BPC and now I'm stuffed. Hoping I have room for my three course LC extravaganza later.

Food today has been:
B: scrambled eggs, ham, sploosh of cream, butter
L: few ham and philly roll ups
S: as above
T: scallops, duck, mousse, prosecco Grin

Day off dairy tomorrow then...apart from the broccoli and Stilton soup I'm making for lunch Hmm

ElBombero · 14/02/2014 17:23

Where do thy sell the diabetic thorntons?? X

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/02/2014 17:27

Was sitting there wondering why I felt thirsty then I realised all I'd had to drink today were two small sized cups of tea this morn.

Epic fail Sad

CrabbyWinterBottom · 14/02/2014 17:37

Thanks Steel. I want to know what's going on in Scandinavia! All we ever hear about on the news is us, the US (centre of the fucking universe Hmm ), and political stuff from France and Germany.
Yay for your rediscovered parka! Grin

Trashy he sounds very sensible and independent - you should feel proud! Most parents have to prise their children out of the family home with a crowbar because they know they've got a cushy deal. Grin

Love I like the upper bits of sprouting broccoli if they're roasted nicely, but I don't like the tough stalks either. DP just eats the whole lot.

Sayra well done on the spinning. What's your study about?

Gussie congratulations on the reappearance of your malleoli!

Great posts from captain

Pisci that's really interesting. I know that chronic hyperglycaemia and glycosylation is sooooooooo destructive within the body. It's what causes the neuropathies associated with T2DM, the circulatory disease, the loss of sight. It contributes to kidney disease, causes ulcers and the resulting amputations and affects connective tissues. It does make you wonder how much that damage is beginning to occur in people who are prediabetic/ have metabolic syndrome and aren't even aware of it. Sad

I'm glad I've stopped mostly eating carby crap!!

Oh Stunt that was a lovely thought but flowers might have been a better bet!

Heir I am Envy at the hog roast. Yum!

Truffles sound fab Willie.

Notsoskinnyminny · 14/02/2014 17:55

Evening Losers! Just caught up with all the shit shouting as I've not been on for a couple of nights thanks to DD coming home from uni thank god she was on the scrounge and not struggling again like last term. Then DS got stranded in the storm but had the sense to get on a train heading towards where we used to live rather than waiting at the station although the drive to pick him up was a bit hairy, especially as the bus in front of me was rocking from side to side. Thankfully we didn't have it anywhere near as bad as pisci*. We only lost one tree and the roof looks intact although it sounded like it was being lifted for most of the night.

Helium Thanks for you. My ex was an utter bastard and made my life hell for 2 years for having the audacity to divorce him luckily DCs school were very supportive when needed.

Lovecat hope the party goes ok tomorrow, I don't miss those days at all.

crabby your ex sounds like a proper plonker, hope DDs legs heal quickly.

Mrs Hugh Jarse well done on signing up for all those classes, my legs finally stopped hurting yesterday after last week's kettleball class and my colleague's signed me up to go again on Sunday.

Waves to everyone else, need to go and put the slap on as DH wants to brave the elements and try the new restaurant down the road. The menu looks safe and I'll have a starter for desert so I don't feel deprived when he has pudding - but I will have to have a bit of his for quality control purposes-- Wink

CrabbyWinterBottom · 14/02/2014 18:03

El diabetic chocolates are the work of the devil! If you want chocolate, could you have a bit of proper, decent, very dark choc instead?

Pistey in the words of Father Jack...
DRINK!
Wink

Sarah 'make a boat'? I'm intrigued...

Well I have decided on a veggie tapas menu for tomorrow night, although I did get a bit carried away in waitrose and bought butternut squash, chantenay carrots and golden beetroot. Blush I'm looking at this menu as an example of what you can eat in the maintenance phase of a low carb diet, when occasional carbier vegetables are allowed.

So...

I'm getting the deep fat fryer out and making vegetable crisps: celeriac, carrot, swede, turnip (bit experimental!) and beetroot. To be served with alioli, guacamole and maybe another dip.

Spanish tortilla made with celeriac.

Mini tartlets - goats' cheese, caramelised shallots and pine nuts with almond pastry.

A big salad with roasted butternut squash, feta cheese and pomegranate seeds.

Oven-dried tomatoes.

Wild and chestnut mushrooms sauteed in butter (and probably sherry) with an egg yolk added at the end to make a creamy sauce.

Calamari, as one of the guests eats fish. I might have to dust them in cornflour. Blush

I could also do hot spicy nuts and deep fried camembert / halloumi if that's not enough food.

Oh, and chocolate tart for pud. I got some chocolate with raspberry in and I'm going to add freeze dried raspberries and some pomegranate seeds. Might do a little raspberry sauce too. With cream too of course.

Looking forward to eating all this!

Piscivorus · 14/02/2014 18:06

Crabby The diabesity talk was fascinating. Almost all the patients had a gastric bypass as the combination of the diabetes and obesity (we were taking 25stone+) made it almost impossible to tackle otherwise as it became a vicious circle. It was also interesting to see that they had to admit that the psychology of eating was far more important than they first thought. One patient actually sued them as her physical health improved but her mental health deteriorated to the point that she felt she'd have been better without intervention.

It's a shame that the evidence of low carb diets in early diabetes isn't taken on board more and these patients might not have got to this point

Piscivorus · 14/02/2014 18:08

You can do the pecans of doom with chilli, that would be sweet, salty and spicy all at once!

Suzymoo9 · 14/02/2014 18:08

OK I take it all back about Celeriac

I have found a recipe that I like - delicious:
www.riverford.co.uk/recipes/view/recipe/spiced-celeriac-with-lemon

CrabbyWinterBottom · 14/02/2014 18:10

Thanks Notso. He's a good man and loves DD more than anything. He just lacks common sense sometimes and isn't very good at saying no to her.

StuntNun · 14/02/2014 18:40

Yes Crabby but I wouldn't be able to eat the flowers either. All is not lost, I'm sure DS1 and DS2 will be happy to 'help' me with the milk chocolate.

B: tea, BPC, Greek yoghurt with raspberries and double cream, morsel of 90% chocolate
L: Sainsbury's cream of chicken soup (12g carbs per tin), tea, coffee with cream, one strawberry
D: Brie coated in almond flour and baked with red cos in a chilli-Balsalmic dressing I know BIWI but the baked Brie needs a hint of sweetness with it or it doesn't work followed by sirloin steak with roasted broccoli and Crabby's mushroom sauce and there may be red wine but if there is then I'm not telling
Dessert: DS1 and DS2 will eat Tim Horton doughnuts and I will watch them jealously

By the way, not only does BIWI have a big stick but she also has immense powers of persuasion. I acquired some Stilton, a lemon and an avocado in Lidl today to test out her "avocado is not evil" theory.

monkeyfacegrace · 14/02/2014 18:51

Im pissed up on a whole bottle of prosecco but Grin

Ive had my friends two little boys all week while she has been on holiday, so I figure its fair game Grin

StuntNun · 14/02/2014 18:54

I'm just reading some very interesting stuff in Gary Taubes's Diet Delusion. He states a theory that "it's not so much that fat fills us up as that carbohydrates prevent satiety". As we eat carbohydrates our bodies secrete insulin which 'sweeps' any fat and carbohydrate in the blood stream away into storage as fat and so we can eat large quantities of carbohydrates, popcorn in his example, but remain hungry or get hungry again very quickly.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 14/02/2014 19:05

Stunt that's a very good point! Grin Although rose petals are quite tasty...

We are the most unromantic couple, don't do cards or anything, but DP came home with flowers and champagne today, so I can join Monkey in the tired and emotional corner. Grin

CrabbyWinterBottom · 14/02/2014 19:13

Would the salad be better with the roasted squash warm, do you think? And the tomatoes? I'm so anal that I'm drawing up a timing chart for tomorrow. Blush Grin

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 14/02/2014 19:38

This post has been three hours in the making due to toddlers...! Crabby my DS thinks my skills with playdough are infinite. "make a car, Mummy. Make a boat. Noooooo, BIGGER! BIGGER! A RACING CAR!" And if I go on Mumsnet, "can I see the smiley faces, Mummy, can I do it?"

It sounds like everyone is having lovely food tonight! I'm especially jealous of the hog roast van heir. Could you send him to my work please? Grin And send some of Crabby's tapas too GrinGrin. Good luck with the meal Chester.

Steeleye do you have a sewing machine or could you borrow one? Slouchy parkas make me think of Docs/Para boots and my youth... sigh

Stunt I'm sure your kids will enjoy them! I'm giving in tonight - the Hotel Chocolat chocolates that are in the garage are coming into the warm and I'm going to have a few. I might regret it on Monday though.

Pisci very interesting talk. Re: prawn bhajis - I didn't follow the recipe strictly; I used small cooked prawns rather than large raw ones and as I only had enough prawns for half the recipe I guessed at the amount of egg and cream. I beat them together then poured it into the almonds until the consistency seemed to be do-able. I also used a couple of cubes of coriander pesto (Cranks, on the recipe thread) rather than fresh coriander. And very hot oil for frying, more like deep frying really.

SMS - I'm having the most pedestrian evening ever - DH is working again after being 6 hours late home yesterday, so I'm going to do shred (which I hate, so dull!) and make some reward charts. On a more positive note - my coconut oil arrived! BPC in the morning.

Today:
B: 2 eggs, scrambled in butter, tbsp gruyere
L: kale and meatball soup
S: 10 pistachios
D: meatballs, tomato sauce, cheese and braised cabbage.

(and some chocolate yet to come Blush)

SteeleyeStan · 14/02/2014 19:39

Crabby - I wanna come over for dinner! That all sounds marvellous! Envy
Pisci - Sounds very interesting. I'm not at all surprised that a gastric bypass doesn't solve all your problems, though... It's a pity this WOE as a possible help is still pretty much something a person has to find themselves and try against their HCPs' recommendations, whereas surgically fiddling with perfectly healthy organs is increasingly seen as the solution. Hmm

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 14/02/2014 19:40

Stuntnun - I've also got an avocado and some blue cheese. Now what do I do with it? It was an almighty squishy green mess last time I tried and it put me off!

BIWI · 14/02/2014 19:45

Mash the avocado, and then mash the blue cheese into it. Bit of lemon juice if you like, and black pepper.

SteeleyeStan · 14/02/2014 19:47

Sarah - Oooh, playdough! I kind of want to see pictures of all these awesome things you make for your DS. Grin

I don't have a sewing machine, but I'm decent enough with a needle and a thread (and evidently superglue Hmm ), so it'll be grand. I used to love a pair of bright green steel toe boots too in my parka days - don't remember the make though. I had them for over 10 years too, but they definitely fell apart after being used as my work boots for a while. (I considered having them bronzed...) These days I go about in sensible Hoggs, but I'm sure an old parka will go just fine with those too. Grin

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 14/02/2014 20:32

I am only awesome in my Ds's eyes!

Thanks BIWI

ElBombero · 15/02/2014 07:24

Hi does anyone know where you can buy the thorntons?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/02/2014 07:42

Yes Thornton's I think is now online, hang about..
