Here's The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And The Weight Tracker

By now, if everyone has been following Bootcamp/Bootcamp Light rules properly then we should all be keto-adapted, and should be burning fat. Yippee!!

Hope everyone has a good week.

Yeah, the "What's the alternative?" line is a good one to bear in mind. God when I think of how depressing I find being hungry....desperately munching salad with low fat mayo - but not too much!!!! - and a sad little sprinkling of cheese, along with a single slice of bread spread with a few molecules of low fat grease....ugh.

DH bless him made me bacon and eggs recently but used fry light instead of butter. Completely un satisfying and kept me full for all of about an hour.

And the self hatred and disappointment when you cave and have a cake, telling yourself you'll just be EXTRA GOOD tomorrow. And then you think well I've done it now so you have something else "naughty" until in order to make up for the extra calories you end up having to be EXTRA GOOD for a week. Which doesn't happen because you're hungry at the best of times so being EXTRA GOOD involves being ravenous and grumpy so you have something naughty to cheer yourself up and ultimately you end up hungry, grumpy and STILL FAT!

Yeah. Never want to go back to all that malarkey.

BTW my general aches and pains are far better lately; I'd been plagued with sore hips before. I've seen it mentioned that LCing is good for joint pain. Does anyone know why?

WillieWaggledagger · 14/02/2014 10:19

that's good calamity - maybe to do with reduced inflammation? i think carbs are supposed to increase inflammation

gussiegrips · 14/02/2014 10:19

You are, of course, all quite correct.

It's really counterproductive for me to stand on the scales, it destroys my mood.

I did a Brave Thing. I stood nekkid in front of the mirror and had a Good Look. This is something I avoid as a general rule, I only ever look at my face.

I've got some leg muscles appearing! I've got a couple of collarbones, and, one of my tyres has completely gone and there is actually an ankle bone trying to poke out.

That's all new.

prettybird · 14/02/2014 10:26

CalamityKate - HTC coconut oil from the ethnic aisle of your big local supermarket or your local Asian shop. Only iirc £2.49 (or was it £1.49?) for 500g.

monkeyfacegrace · 14/02/2014 10:27

Just got something to say....

A 300g blue rump steak with fried eggs and gallons of butter is the best way to start the day

Grin

And Im another 1lb down, so thats 18lb gone since Jan 1st.

Well done everybody else Flowers

trashcanjunkie · 14/02/2014 10:28

calamity I think it's something to do with wheat and or gluten and it's effects on the joints... binding/glueing poss Hmm

crabby I fear the cursed camberwell carrot, and perhaps it's lesser brethren are indeed a very regular feature of ds daily life Blush still, he seems happy, and is extremely courteous - manages to hold down a job in a call centre, whilst studying music at college. He knows where we are if he changes his mind and wants to come home [hopeful emoticon]

steeleye fanks! Grin I've introduced a very dubious dp to the BP rooibos this morning. He said it was alright really. We're gonna try it in peppermint tea later.

Just had bacon and duck eggs with button mushrooms for B

The lunch plan is a valentine spesh - Swordfish steaks and these monster king prawns (about the size of a newborn chihuahua Confused) with some spinach and kale

dinner is undecided yet - maybe some pork shoulder curried with pak choi bottom bits and spinach n kale.

gonna go for a snooze now! Grin

prettybird · 14/02/2014 10:28

Totally flavourless. Smile

EvaTheOptimist · 14/02/2014 11:21

Lighthousekeeping on a long train journey last week I packed a big box of Gorgeous Salad - lettuce, cucumber, tomato, avocado, coleslaw, cubes of cheddar, cubes of feta, olives, vinaigrette, mayonnaise...

And pack a fork!

It gleamed with health and got envious glances from my fellow travellers with their baguettes.

You can have tuna mayo! in your salad box.

You can have the cappuccino.

You need to leave the croissant in the shop.

EvaTheOptimist · 14/02/2014 11:28

ElBombero yes ubercamp only 3 days. I did 3 dairy-free days a week or so ago, and I do wonder whether it can be a good kick-starter. I love cheese so can't keep dairy-free up for long. (But I think even one dairy free day here or there every so often is a good idea) I'm back to eating cheese of course but I'm still losing at the moment, so I'm hoping it was a sort of kick-start to the system. Totally unscientific comments here of course!

I think it comes down to one of the bootcamp rules is "dairy in moderation". All the other rules are pretty all or nothing - which is easier in a way. "Moderation" is a tricky one!

EvaTheOptimist · 14/02/2014 11:35

gussie yay to the disappearance of tyres! For the first 4 months of this WOE I didn't own scales, I just watched my back-fat slowly disappearing. (I could even tell when I was stalling as it didn't change much for a bit!) So good to get rid of that visceral fat.

heliumheart · 14/02/2014 12:51

Afternoon everybody. Thanks for all the messages of support yesterday. I feel like I'm in a crap film with an unbelievable story line..! Onwards though, onwards.

Last night went out with a friend and fellow bootcamper (although she lurks more than posts I think... Grin) to a great steak restaurant in London Bridge. We had an almost perfect meal other than the wine but was very tasty.

Today -

B - creamy coffees
L - bolognese with parmesan
D - probably more of the same

I've just done an online food shop, organising the coming weekend (I have the DC), and trying to put thoughts of next week out of my mind.

Piscivorus · 14/02/2014 13:18

Calamity I went to a meeting about diabetes recently and the main speaker was a consultant with research interests talking about "diabesity" which is the double whammy of diabetes and obesity. He mentioned joint pain as a particular problem and said that part of it was the usual weight/osteoarthritis thing but the other part was that when glucose levels are high in the blood it binds to connective tissue such as ligaments and tendons. The glycosylated tissue is more rigid so cannot stretch and bend which increases pain in the joint. Although we are unlikely to have the high levels seen in diabetes I do wonder if there is an element of this in those of us who are sensitive to carbs

Lighthouse I usually visit our local M&S before a journey as I love their prawns with a dip of thousand island stuff. I also get chicken pieces and almonds for nibbling.

captainmummy · 14/02/2014 13:27

Pisci - thats interesting about the joints. Hope it helps everyone !

DP has bought prawns for treat-tea tonight; doing them with garlic and courgetti. Pud will prob be thick greek yog with choc powder mixed into make a kind-of mousse. Lidl had run out of the eridanous greek yog, so had to buy Turkish 10% fat, which is v vv thick! Might need to add cram to thin it down... Grin

captainmummy · 14/02/2014 13:28

*cream! Cram some cream in Grin

StuntNun · 14/02/2014 13:49

DH bought me a milk chocolate Hotel Chocolat heart filled with milk and white chocolates for Valentine's Day. It's a lovely gesture but I nibbled a bit of the milk chocolate and it's far too sweet. Then I ate two thirds of a strawberry truffle but it was too sweet too. I'm going to have to feed them to the kids aren't I? It's a real shame.

SteeleyeStan · 14/02/2014 14:12

Oh dear. I have a lot to do at home today. I was supposed to get started right after breakfast and a quick internet catch up. But I started reading something in MN classics; and then there was another interesting looking thread, and then, well, then it’s 2 pm all of a sudden?! Shock (And I’m still here!)

Queen yay for people noticing!

Calamity and Willie I think low carb is supposed to reduce inflammation, because of the positive hormonal changes of less insulin, lower blood glucose and other such changes. A quick google for “low carb reduces inflammation” produces loads of links about a study in 2007 about reduced inflammation markers on a ketogenic diet.

Monkeyface that sounds brilliant! Grin

Helium It’s great you have a real life bootcamping friend around. That sounds like an excellent night out. :)

StunNun I’ve had that with milk chocolate. I might crave it and imagine how lovely it’ll be, but when I actually taste it, it’s just sugary and icky and a disappointment.

Since I’m here shouting shit instead of doing anything useful, I might as well share my small joy of the day. I found an old parka! It’s big! It’s a parka I nicked off my grandmother when I was 17. It was too big then too, but I loved it and shuffled around in its folds for years on end. Maybe 10 years ago it got a bit tight and I thought it had fallen apart and been thrown away. But I found it and it’s nice and big again! Grin Okay, so it’s partly been fixed with superglue, and some seams need fixing (maybe not with superglue…), but I’m so full of old parka love. Grin

(Not proofreading as it clearly makes no difference; I just apologise for abusing your language so... Blush )

Suzymoo9 · 14/02/2014 14:22

Captainmummy I love your level headed posts.

Supersal and Steeleye I agree with you - the lists of cheating cause me cravings!

CalamityKate hmmm - a coconut oil that isn't coconutty? don't know about that but I have Biona which is delicious especially in tea and with brussels sprounts!

The weather here is really extreme - pleased to be back from work now. I hope everyone is okay. At least it's Friday.

Suzymoo9 · 14/02/2014 14:23

sprouts Grin

captainmummy · 14/02/2014 14:28

Suzy - Grin!

Steeleye = a vintage, original Parka? Fab.

Calamity - i drink rooibos with coconut oil,(that's breakfast, most days) tried both KTC and the organic £6 tub from waitrose (no difference, BTW) and I can't taste coconut. Wish I could, i love coconut.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 14/02/2014 14:32

Captain I love the idea of having to use cream to thin down yogurt - imagine the Shock of the low fat people if they saw you do that Grin

Heir's exciting find of the day: there is a sandwich van thing near my office that does a hog roast every Friday which is awesome, and I was all Sad at losing my Friday treat, BUT today he did me a big salad box with homemade coleslaw and then a huge pile of the lovely roasty pork on top - so much nicer than shoving it in a bap, and now I am so full I need a lie down...

Hope everyone is feeling the love today.

WillieWaggledagger · 14/02/2014 14:45

dp went off on a work trip this morning so we had a sort of valentine's meal last night - steak and salad with blue cheese and bacon. lovely

but i'm having an indulgent meal tonight too because i can! before low carbing if dp was away i wouldn't bother making anything nice for myself - i'd usually just have toast or something and end up snacking all evening. now i cook properly and eat at the table and it's lovely

so i'm having beef bourguignon (in the slow cooker - it will last for several days too) with curly kale wilted in butter and mashed swede (makes me a bit windy but dp is away so...)

followed by a couple of homemade chocolate truffles that i made from this recipe using 90% chocolate. they are coated in grated chocolate. i made loads at christmas as gifts and as indulgent treats for me, and put a few in the freezer for times like this. i've got a couple out and put them in the fridge so they'll be edible this evening

captainmummy · 14/02/2014 15:17

Sounds lovely, Willie!
Heir -as does roast pork and a big salad.
Cream and yog? That remind me of preLCing days - I would mix low low fat Mayo with low fat yogurt, and add mustard and lemon juice to give flavour. Bloody horrible it was, but low fat... And so sweet, somehow. Full fat is so so so much nicer
