Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

One measly pound - bah! And I have not cheated once. Thanks for all the explanations of the three week stall, otherwise I may have been a little disheartened. I do feel so much better overall so it's definitely worth carrying on. And I've started exercising properly - it hurts like billy-o but I am determined to keep going because I know how much better I feel when I'm fit and not struggling to climb the damn stairs and can actually catch my ridiculously fast two year old.

I made a really good wagamama style salmon dish with zero carb noodles. I'll post the recipe when I get a chance.

Lighthousekeeping · 27/01/2014 12:04

I've lost 4llb this week. I'm not on the spreadsheet but I'm unsung the marvellous tracker. I'm going to stay on bootcamp for at least another week. I need to make an effort to up my water intake. I'm only managing 1.5 litres a day. I may have to buy some sugar free Robinsons. I hope that will be ok.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 27/01/2014 12:11

Hello everyone!

the Quibbler I would love to see that recipe. Wagamamas is my absolute favourite and I'm struggling to cook that kind of thing as LC. I do have some of he magic noodles though and I'm going to give that a go tonight.

Stuntnun thanks for that, it will keep me going for the next two weeks I suspect!

daisy - I have a wonderful cake book by Annie Bell, which is completely irrelevant except that the utter oppositeness of it makes me smile!

I haven't lost anything this week which I'm actually really pleased with - we were away for two days at the beginning of the week and whilst I stuck to the rules I suspect there were a few hidden sugars in what I ate. We also had friends to stay this weekend. I kept the menu low carb but we still ate a bucketload. I also had quite a lot to drink Blush - mostly vodka and soda but still! I can also say that coffee with cream to go to bed on after lots of vodka as soda made me feel as sick as a dog.

(Honestly, it was the coffee that made me nauseous, not the drink. Seriously!)

Well done to everyone who has lost and keep on keeping on to those that haven't.

GatoradeMeBitch · 27/01/2014 12:19

I lost 3.2 pounds, very pleased with that. And I got some chicken thighs on reduction at the counter in Sainsbury's. The guy smirked at me when I asked for two hot thighs, but they were only 20p each so I'll have them with salad for lunch Smile

Thumbwitch · 27/01/2014 12:26

It was only going to be one banana...

OK, might have cherries instead. Just nowhere near as filling as the banana...

S - 3 slices of meat and creamcheese roll. Nice and filling. :)

trashcanjunkie · 27/01/2014 12:30

Hiya everyone, thanks so much for the encouragement last week. I upped my water by another couple of litres, so I'm basically constantly drinking throughout the day. Even though the tracker will show a gain, I weighed myself mid week and I was tipping 18st. This morning I'm 17.6 bang on, so I feel happier than I did. Still a bit Hmm at slow loss/gaining, but I've taken your advice BIWI and this morning I've had a 1.5 litre of water plus a rooibos with cream.

B - full fat lidl greek yog with clotted cream followed by bacon and scrambled egg with cream plus a few olives

plan for lunch is tuna mayo and salad

dunno what snack/dinner is gonna be yet.

off to work now, will check in later.

The graph looks FANTASTIC! I cannot wait to see my line going down.

I love everybody on this thread Flowers

trashcanjunkie · 27/01/2014 12:31

Oh, and I'm definitely staying on bc

Does anybody of you use the MyFitnessPal?

CiderwithBuda · 27/01/2014 13:13

Hi all.

1.75 lb loss this week which gives me 5lbs overall. Pretty happy with that as I have had a fair bit of wine and some Xmas cake at the weekends. And nuts. And a small amount of rice.

ChesterDrawers - I get what you are saying. I have thought in the past that this is too restrictive for me. But I keep coming back to it! Although I have to say that I did find Weight Watchers very good. Although it's a bit of a dirty word around here! You don't have to eat lots of WW products. They now emphasize filling and healthy foods. And exercise. And it does fit in with normal life. It might be something to think about whilst also remembering the low carb principles of eating protein and fat as they fill you up. The risk is trying to mix both regimes and taking the fat from this and the sugar from WW and ending up in a fatter mess!

Thumbwitch - no bananas! You can have berries though. Strawberries and cream! Yum.

Whoknows - the thing we all need to learn and accept is that eating carbs and sugar led to the weight gain. We can't go back to eating like that if we want to keep the weight off. And some people are more sensitive to sugar than others. The daily mail ran articles last week or the week before about quitting sugar. It was by and Australian woman - she has a website 'Iquitsugar.com'. It might be worth a look. And as willie said Atkins recommended reintroducing carbs gradually to find your set point. Never recommended reintroducing the crap carbs though! It is hard but maybe if you stick to low carb no sugar mainly the odd treat wouldn't derail you too much.

Crabby - thanks for that. Menu sounded lovely.

Piscivorus · 27/01/2014 13:18

I don't do bootcamp light but I do allow myself a cheat up to once a week if I want or need it. I find it keeps me on the straight and narrow during the week as I bargain with myself (e.g. I won't have this now as I'm going to cheat on xxxday). Sometimes I use it for going out when I know I wouldl have wine or eat something naughty with friends anyway, sometimes it might be just a little something that I fancy but I find to stick to the stricter lc in the week works for me as once I go to the light version I bend it more and more and more. Sometimes my reward doesn't have to be cheating but can be a treat like fillet steak or a beauty treatment or product.
Anyway, it works for me.

I have entered my loss as 1lb this week as I weigh on Fri and that's what my weight showed then but this morning I seem to be 3lb below that so here's hoping for next Friday!

Piscivorus · 27/01/2014 13:20

Thumbwitch something that made me realise how bad bananas were in lc terms was that my friend who eats paleo told me that she makes healthy pancakes by blending a banana with an egg then frying it in coconut oil. It makes fluffy american style pancakes as the banana provides all the starch and sugar needed Shock

LittleMissDisorganized · 27/01/2014 13:27

zgaze yes I felt that ill. Withdrawing off a highly addictive substance - it makes you realise how true that is. I then had a flare of it in week 2 - or a bug with similar feelings. Definitely puts me off cheating, that's for sure.

Love the graph and tracker, and spreadsheet, thank you BIWI and Willie for your ongoing work.

I've managed 2 swims, and no idea whether the convalescing weakness or not being completely adapted made me feel like I was swimming through jelly. Not treacle though. So it could be worse. And it definitely made me hungry, but energised too. Swimming 3 x a week is probably enough.

My other pondering is that after quite an emotionally difficult few days I had an awful panic attack on Saturday night, grief related, and usually once I have managed to regain calm from something like that I would reward myself with food. Amazingly, that did not happen. Wow. DH helped me cook something really simple, sausages and brocolli and cauliflower cheese, and it was all really delicious. This is real progress for me on the emotional eating front.

Thumbwitch · 27/01/2014 13:31

Oh I know, I know. I lived on bananas and weak coffee for 4 weeks when I had just been through a huge emotional trauma - lost 1.5stone then though. Not recommended as a diet, btw - I physically couldn't eat anything else and NOTHING with fat in. Not even chocolate or cheese, my two favourite foods.

No, not strawberries. Cherries. Or melon. Melon's ok, right? I don't dislike strawberries, btw, just cba with them as we have to keep them in the fridge and I loathe cold fruit.

CiderwithBuda · 27/01/2014 13:49

I'm not keen on cold fruit either! I take stuff out about half an hour before I will be eating it. All berries are ok I think. And I seem to remember that apples are lowish in carbs.

Lighthousekeeping · 27/01/2014 13:52

Who else is doing another week of bootcamp?

gussiegrips · 27/01/2014 13:57

Pisco and lighthouse - I like the notion of bootcamp in the week and lite at weekends.

I'm down a pund an half, which is great as I had a lunch out with my mum (I did consider taking my own food and thought "no way, this is a treat") AND I went out for dinner with DH and then ate some chocolate and crisps and wine at the cinema - and, I've still lost weight.

I love this WOE. For the first time since I was 14 I think I might just be able to get to grips eiht the size of my ass.

heliumheart · 27/01/2014 13:58

Help me help me all!

I was doing so well. But last week the scales didn't budge despite being very good and having tons to lose. Big night out on Saturday, hangover yesterday, carbs ever since... argghh!

I need to stop. I need to start again. I was really enjoying it and I DON'T WANT TO BE FAT ANY MORE.

zgaze · 27/01/2014 14:03

Thanks littlemiss - it just seems such a massive reaction if it is that. I googled the rash and it says it can last months! I think I'd rather be fat on my wedding day than covered in dark red bumps! I shall keep drinking litres and litres of water and hope that it flushes it all out.

Still thinking of lentils. Lovely lentils. My body must be craving something in them. It's a bad idea right?

anewdispensation · 27/01/2014 14:03

Hi all. So pleased I'm still on. Clothes are looser and the compliments are coming inSmile

However I'm on a work trip to NY tomorrow and I'm scared of falling off the wagon. Tips please!!!!!

The waitrose pork crackling- is it tyrells or the awfully posh brand?

PseudoBadger · 27/01/2014 14:11

New York - you lucky thing! I bet you can get amazing salads with dressings and they won't blink at being asked to swap carbs for veg/salads either.

Ilisten2thesoundofdrums · 27/01/2014 14:18

Thumbwhich I found [http://www.musclehack.com/what-fruit-can-i-eat-on-a-low-carb-diet/ this list of low carb fruit]] if that helps.
I have had a few blueberries in with my yoghurt and linseeds this morning and they tasted very sweet indeed to me. Clearly 2 weeks without any sweet stuff has reset my tastebuds somewhat!!!

anewdispensation · 27/01/2014 14:20

I know pseudo but I'm so scared. I normally indulge when I'm there starting from the warm bread basket on the flight there Grin

projectbabyweight · 27/01/2014 14:20

helium - I totally understand. Do you feel back "in the zone" now? It always helps me to either write down how I'm feeling or have a few minutes of meditation/breathing slowly to get my perspective back.

Not always easy with a 1 & 3 year old. Best of luck Thanks

Thumbwitch · 27/01/2014 14:25

Thanks for that link, Ilisten.

I know I should be organised enough to take the fruit out a while before I want to eat it, but I'm just not. I might take it out, but then I forget to eat it, or don't want it any more by the time it's warmed up a bit. I know it's crap of me, honestly I do, but there's no point pretending I'm more organised than I am. Blush
