Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

Where did you get your carb count from? According to the carb counter on the spreadsheet it's only 2.2g carbs per 100g!

My friend has gone LC and has only lost half a pound in a couple of weeks. She admits though she isn't drinking nearly enough water. I know how important it is but will she still lose - albeit really slowly - if she doesn't drink enough??

CalamityKate · 30/01/2014 14:21

Ooh can't remember now. Hang on.

CalamityKate · 30/01/2014 14:23

Googled "Toby carvery swede carbs" and the first hit was fat secret site and it says 9.4 per 100g. One site said even higher!

tenementfunster · 30/01/2014 14:24

I am a bit stressed and a bit bored and all i want to do is jump into a tin of biscuits. i have had the scratchings, I've had lunch, i've had water. its purely a mental state. How to avoid some severe cravings, campers? what can i do?
i know at the heart of it is a leetle bit of disappointment at weigh loss so far (nearly 4 lbs) i am being a big baby.
slap me about the chops (ah chops hmm, chops) please, someone

BIWI · 30/01/2014 14:29

Why isn't she drinking the water?

Yes, it's important. That's why it's a Bootcamp rule!

Carb counts do vary according to different sites. But it could also be that the carb count you've been given there was an American count, because they include fibre in their carb count.

Have a nice fatty salty chop! :)

CalamityKate · 30/01/2014 14:35

She doesn't like water, rarely gets thirsty anyway and finds the constant loo visits disruptive. I get all that but I've mastered - mostly - timing my most wee-y periods with times I'm near a toilet :) And now I'm in the habit of drinking I'm getting thirstier generally; I never used to drink nearly enough even pre:LCing.

I find the first couple of bottles of the day aren't going straight through as I'm replenishing from overnight and late afternoon/early evening bottles tend to stay in more. If I drink a lot over the middle of the day, they're the ones that go WHOOSH. So I sip rather than gulp then!

GatoradeMeBitch · 30/01/2014 14:41

My scales don't work properly Sad They're new as well. I weighed myself, then decided to doublecheck. The second reading was out by two pounds! I'll have to do 'best of three' from now on!

tenementfunster · 30/01/2014 14:41

yes you're right. got school run in a minute, i will have a coffee when i get back.
i basically need to occupy myself between now and tea time, which won't really be that difficult. thanks

captainmummy · 30/01/2014 14:49

Calamity -the reason she should drink lots is to dilute/flush out ketones . if the levels of ketone in her system are too high, it interferes with fat burning , that's prob why she is not losing.

WillieWaggledagger · 30/01/2014 14:50

i feel rotten these days if my water consumption goes below 3L

calamity she needs to understand that if she is in ketosis then the water is really important as it flushes the ketones out. if the concentration of ketones in the blood is above a certain level then fat is less likely to be metabolised

also it gets rid of dark circles under your eyes

WillieWaggledagger · 30/01/2014 14:50

or what captainmummy said ^

SteeleyeStan · 30/01/2014 14:51

I actually watched the Horizon on iPlayer now. I actually think it could have been worse - but my expectations were very low! Grin

I do find it quite odd that something so very popular in a wide variety of countries (probably most so in Scandinavia), that's been around for longer than low fat diets, and has even been called a "passing fad" for as long as I can remember (so yet to pass) is still called an American fad. Hmm

WillieWaggledagger · 30/01/2014 14:55

lots of older people say that when their older relatives were told to lose weight they were told to cut down on carbs (obviously processed food was less available anyway), so it's by no means a new idea, it just got lost and is viewed with suspicion by people who have grown up with the low fat message

CalamityKate · 30/01/2014 14:58

Right thanks I'll tell her.

captainmummy · 30/01/2014 15:08

Everyone at work is tucking into chocolate mini rolls. I've just had two spoons of clotted cream when noone was looking.

Soooo good, but why do I feel the need to hide it? They would think I was bonkers if they saw.

WillieWaggledagger · 30/01/2014 15:37

you know what they are chester? carby twats, that's what they are

(see bootcamps passim)

Zenzero · 30/01/2014 15:47

Thanks for all the welcomes folks! And well done to everyone who is either losing or soldiering on even when they are not...you all inspire me!

Sorry haven't posted again until now but am living in the house of the ill at the moment and appear to have now succumbed myself! Could of course just be a coincidence since I did start to feel rubbish yesterday which was day 3 for me!!...or I suppose it could be a combination.

Anyway, I managed to go back to sleep for a few hours this morning and did feel a bit better after that. My head is still pounding a bit and feel a wee bit achey but am drinking lots of water and have had a coffee with cream and a couple of pork belly slices with a big dollop of mayo (my Delouis Fils, which arrived from Amazon the other day-yum!).

Am considering an Indian takeaway tonight because I really can't face cooking and DH is still not 100% either but have done a search on here for the best choices and will probably just get a tandoori mixed grill thing and maybe a veggie side and leave the rice and naan to everyone else.

Just wanted to reiterate what Willie said about people in the past cutting out carbs to lose weight, I have heard that too and I also know from my time living in Italy (not exactly the most obviously low carb friendly place!) that it is what people do there too when they want to slim down a bit, so really not a new or novel concept...and obviously works!

Dilligufdarling · 30/01/2014 15:48

Hi all,
I've been lurking around on these treads for about a week - have been low carbing for 6 days (this time round. Had great success pre preggers) have lost 6.5 lbs so far Smile
Just have to share as am vvvv proud, am back from lunch with work colleagues and totally stuck to the rules :)
Had steak with salad and diet coke (not sure if this is strictly allowed but it worked for me last time) and water and tea with skimmed milk.
Everyone else was there with their bread, chips, onion rings in batter, gallons of wine, deserts and biscuits with coffee. I was sooooo good :)

Am aiming for another 7-10 lbs. this will put me around 11st., am 6ft tall so think this would make my BMi around 21, which is be quite happy with.
Anyway I hope you don't mind me crashing in! Have filled in the tracker, but not the spreadsheet as I didn't start it early enough.

GatoradeMeBitch · 30/01/2014 16:07

I had kale chips for lunch. I didn't like them initially, but they were salty and crunchy and I ended up doing what I do with real crisps - I just mindlessly shovelled them in until they were all gone! I bought a big bag of kale so I'll keep making them till I run out.

A brilliant thing about this diet for me is that food wastage has gone right down. I used to ignore the eggs and meat and veg in the fridge in favour of quick carby things or processed food, and now everything is getting used.

GatoradeMeBitch · 30/01/2014 16:14

Dilligufdarling I know Dukan low carb diet allows diet coke (that's what got me hooked on diet coke for three years!) I stopped eventually because I'm certain it was causing inflammation of my knee joints.

I think this diet is more 'clean', so as few chemicals or processed things as possible. I'm very much a newbie, so I'm not sure if you're allowed it, but if I were you I would try to wean myself off it, maybe with those little mixer cans!

WillieWaggledagger · 30/01/2014 16:16

absolutely gatorade re food wastage. because i'm not really hungry between meals and don't really snack any more, but am genuinely hungry when i do eat, i tend to stick to meal plans so food shopping / budgeting is much more accurate. i don't tend to overspend or need to top up between shops any more

(note though i don't have children, and though DP eats carbs he is a teacher who has a packed lunch and never has time to snack during term time, so no likely gannets in the house other than me)

HumphreyCobbler · 30/01/2014 16:17

I just found myself eating pate on slices of raw swede. It was great! Crunchy and nice.
