Morning all!

I see several of you have already weighed in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

As of today, though, we also have our bright, shiny, new Bootcamp section on Mumsnet, including our own Weight Tracker, which will only show your own weight/progress.

You can either use the Spreadsheet as we have done before, which everyone has access to and can see, or you can go here and enter your weight.

Obviously you can do both!

When you're in the new Bootcamp, if you click on the tab that says 'more info' that will take you to a section which has loads of information about low carbing, as well as Bootcamp Rules

Before we get going formally, I have to make an important disclaimer:

I am not a doctor, a medic, a scientist, a nutritionist or a dietician. I have no formal training in food, dieting or low carbing. The information that I provide here is based solely on my reading on the subject, as well as my own experience. If you have any kind of medical condition and/or you are taking any kind of ongoing medication, you should consult your GP before starting a low carb diet

That done, good luck everyone!

Thanks Tiglette. I know I need to be patient and that it will be worth it in the end when I can just run and run. I think I have some kind of day 3 blues, it was pissing it down with rain and despite my lovely kalenji rain jacket that I got for Christmas I was sodden wet, cold and peed off! It helps to have a rough time scale for feeling better!

SteeleyeStan · 15/01/2014 13:24

I once accidentally bought Tiana coconut butter instead their coconut oil. It's got no taste to it at all. I don't know if there's anything dodgy about it - at least it only lists ingredients organic coconut butter (99.4%) and organic high omega3 hempseed oil. I have no idea what's the big difference between "oil" and "butter" though. The look and texture is exactly the same.

I don't like it though, because it's just weird there's no taste, and been using it to grease my iron pans. Grin

I've just seen something the campers with doom and gloom merchants around them might find amusing.

When I first went LC about 5 years ago (IPD) I made the mistake of telling my sil. She went crazy, sending me all sorts of information and anecdotes of how many people have died/have had kidney failure / have put on weight / ended up in hospital etc on LC diets. She even went as far as telling my DH I was heading for a heart attack leaving him with 2 DC to bring up by himself.

Sil has always been a big fan of WW (not knocking WW at all, different things work for different people) and has re-joined this year to get rid of Xmas excess weight. She's just posted on FB: 'whooops, just had a Zinger Tower for lunch and used up all my points. Zero point soup for tea!'.

For lunch I've had some salmon with a salad of little gem, radish, cucumber and celery dressed in olive oil... and I'm the one who's poisoning myself with my diet.

Lovecat · 15/01/2014 13:32

Thanks for all the water advice. I drank a lot more yesterday and although I was v. thirsty all the time (must try more avocado & lo-salt) I didn't wake up with dog-breath again.

I know you're meant to eat a lot on this WOE but I find after breakfast I'm just not hungry! I have to force myself to have lunch...

Anyway, onwards and upwards. Had broccoli cheese soup for breakfast, now I'm going to do something with avocados and salad for lunch. Dinner will be something chickeny :)

Glad the job itself is going well, BIWI, I used to hate the constant cakes, sweets and treats going through our office, it's such a temptation!

kasbah72 · 15/01/2014 13:33

I am so stupid! I have a paprika chicken recipe bubbling away in the slow cooker and was feeling very proud of myself for being organised. Then I realised that I did what I always do and bloody well coated the chicken in flour before cooking.

Numpty.

So how bad is it? Is this going to undo everything? Or should I just pretend it didn't happen?

Next time I need to egg dip and parmesan instead.

Stupid woman

Thumbwitch · 15/01/2014 13:33

WTF is a "zinger tower"?? Confused

Tigglette · 15/01/2014 13:36

Grumpy I'm in awe of you even venturing out in that weather - it helps motivation that my exercise is all indoors. I was so shocking in training last week that I thought I'd be asked to surrender my black belt. It won't be long before you're unstoppable!

BIWI · 15/01/2014 13:44

A Zinger Tower is something from KFC, isn't it?

LauraBridges · 15/01/2014 13:46

Well done to the exercises. I just eat....
B - 3 eggs and I tried celery fried in butter hich was not good. I remember I don't like the taste of fried butter. Still ate it all.

L - piece of salmon fried in olive oil with green peppers and courgettes and a small bit of higher carb orange pepper I need to eat up and then loads of spinach and half a pack of broccolli stems/heads with kerrygold butter on top.

Not sure what dinner will be yet. I'm feeling better but that is as much because my period is here and settling down than the food I suspect (as I was eating pretty well before anyway so my food is not too different from before).

Like the WW and SIL story. Silly her. I did WW and never put as much weight on again as I lost then about 15 years ago so I'm not against it - I made sure I ate only whole foods etc so in a sense I did WW paleo/primal eating. I still have my life membership card Although I am currently about 4 pounds over the goal weight not that that is very significant given the years that passed.

BIWI · 15/01/2014 13:47

Re running/exercise, it will probably take you a couple of weeks to get back into it. Once your body has been forced to switch from carb-burning to fat-burning though, you will find that you have loads of energy.

There's also an argument that it's better to train in a fasted state, as this encourages the burning of more fat. I rarely eat now before I go to the gym, and the sessions I have with my trainer are usually fairly full-on. (Obviously this works better as I'm going first thing in the morning and not having to fast all day before I see him!)

However, don't even think about trying to do this until you are feeling that you have more energy/have fully adapted to a low carb diet.

Thumbwitch

Today I had:
B - 2 egg omelette with mushrooms and cheese, cooked in butter.

Perfect!

L - cauliflower and broccoli cheese with peas. Cheese sauce presented me with a problem while I was cooking it - I'd forgotten that I use flour to thicken it! So tried to do it without, it didn't work, ended up having to add some cornflour in milk to thicken. Cheese sauce was combo of Boursin, parmesan and cheddar, with butter and double cream.

Peas?! Definitely not allowed on Bootcamp! And I know you know it was a mistake, but the cornflour isn't great. Make cheese sauce with cream and/or soft cream cheese, with grated cheese mixed into it.

D - beef stir fry with julienned courgettes, carrots and red pepper, and chopped onions, all fried in butter and olive oil.

Carrots are also a bit too carby - but apart from that, sounds lovely

S - I still get hungry around 10:30/11pm, so tonight I had 4 slices of fried haloumi. (Last night I had a stick of celery filled with Boursin)

Nothing wrong with this - eat if you're hungry. You should find that shortly your appetite will decrease markedly, especially if you keep the fat content of your meals up.

However, keep an eye on your dairy - there's a fair bit in your meals.

I also blush accidentally ate a cherry today. They were beautiful looking ones in the supermarket, so I bought some and then tried one before I remembered. I did stop though straight after!

Good for you!

Thumbwitch when you say you're worried about a hypo, what were your symptoms?

OP posts:
Thumbwitch · 15/01/2014 13:55

Ah thanks for the peas tip. I was cooking it for the boys as well, and the broccoli was a bit in short supply, so added peas to up the green content (they also had theirs on pasta, which I didn't)

Are sweet potatoes allowed? [bets they're not]

Thumbwitch · 15/01/2014 13:58

The hypo - I went completely white in the face, grey/greenish around the lips, cold sweat standing out on my face, weak, faint, sick - I had to go and sit in the loos at work and a lady found me who has also had hypos so she brought me a few sugar cubes and water and 10 minutes later I was ok.
The hypo was likely more because I'd been doing a lot of low-impact/high-rep work at the gym the night before, and used up all my glycogen stores - but I can't afford to go like that again because I have a highly active 15mo to deal with!

halfthesize · 15/01/2014 14:16

Hi all, hope everyone is doing ok, Im so busy with work/home/family etc but woe is going great. Have decided to wait till next Monday to weigh in. Normally when doing this I weigh daily but really trying not to.
I missed breakfast as had to be at work by 7am, but just got in and had burger, cheese and courgettes fried in butter, yummy Grin

HavingAnOffDAy · 15/01/2014 14:27

Wow - so many posts!

Have had a good few days. Feeling headachy today but will plough on as I know it will pass.

I love LC'ing!

Suzymoo9 · 15/01/2014 14:35

Hellum - I find I weigh quite a few pounds heavier during my period - could be that?

heliumheart · 15/01/2014 14:54

Thanks Suzy, I'm hoping it is that!

Having a shit day today. exH recently introduced our children to the OW, and seems to have gone from 0-60 in about two weeks in that her and her child now seem to feature in every bloody thing they all do together. My 4yr old daughter just walked in, telling me that OW had bought her the dress she's wearing (I had no idea) and that OW is very beautiful and that she really likes her. I know it's pathetic but it's really flooring me at the moment. I want to be all mature and grown up but all I want to do is scream obscenities about what a vile woman she is Sad

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 15/01/2014 15:01

hello everyone, hope your days are all good!

I was having a stinker of a day yesterday - carb cravings when I'd had very little for 10 days, headaches and tiredness. I'd felt absolutely fantastic the day before which made it even worse. I even dreamt of bloody biscuits - fox's viennese to be precise.

I started my period today. Thanks heavens for that!

Re: thirst and wobbliness - I have a cup of vegetable bouillon made up as a drink if I'm feeling tired and a bit faint; maybe that could help?

It has to be said that I haven't cracked the thirst yet. I talk a lot as part of my job and I certainly need more that 3l/day; I'm having trouble keeping up really. I'm certainly too thirsty to run atm (will give me a migraine if I do).

(very jealous of anyone running Envy)

Our treats at work at hidden in a drawer so that they are there for anyone that wants them but they aren't boring into the eyeballs of those that don't Grin!

Re: meatballs- I know they aren't meatballs but waitrose do some lamb burgers that are good - something like 0.1g carbs I think.

sueh95 · 15/01/2014 15:03

Thanks Woolfy & Chester - I'm having Chesters chicken for dinner tonight - can't wait.

This is so lovely I can't believe I ever stopped this WOE - I last did it about 5 years ago and it really is the way to go. I'm 2lb down already and only started Monday - every other weight loss diet I have tried (and I think I have tried them all!) - I would lose a couple of pounds, put them back on, think 'ok I've fcked up again' then make sure I fcked up properly by stuffing my face..... feel guilty..... stuff face..... hate self.... stuff face

This time its going to be different..... especially as I'm absorbing all the positivity on the forum! Thanks one and all Grin

thekitchenfairy · 15/01/2014 15:03

Don't reach for the chocolate helium

Sounds like you're having a Pretty rubbish day. Bloody well done that You've already managed to resist the cake, foodie temptations a,ways so much more tricky when there are other stresses going on. can you find a reward? maybe have a cuppa and a cuddle in front of a movie with your poorly little one?

Heliumheart, I knownexactkybjownyoire feeling right now with the ow and the kids, but trust me that it will be soooo short lived, as upsetting as it is now she will get fed up of trying so hard and the kids will realise it's all an act.. As awful as it sounds as I've been on both sides of that one! They begin to really is like her, they may continue to like her, but no where near as much as they seem to now!

Mlig · 15/01/2014 15:11

I lost 3lb in my first day, 2.5lb on my second, then mine yesterday :-( I know that weight fluctuates over the week and all that, but I have loads to lose, about 6 stone, so had hoped it would go down every day or a week or 2. So I was wondering, the only thing I did differently yesterday wa that I had a tomato based sauce for tea, albeit made with passata that was lower than 3g carb, where as other nights I've had cream based fatty ones, could that be the reason? Also I didn't drink as much water, I've been struggling to get to 4.5l every day but I probably only drunk about 2l yesterday..

Also, I've been wondering 2 things which I'm sure I read last week but can't find it today, but why are we putting double cream in everything? I've always hated cream and cream sauces, but I'm actually really enjoying it!

And fat, I keep reading eat more fat, is this just to satisfy appetite or will it help with weight loss too?
Tia x

sueh95 · 15/01/2014 15:12

Oh Helium thats not pathetic at all - I really feel for you - if it helps my friends dc were like that at first but eventually they saw through the OW and hardly see her and the ex at all now (their choice). Don't let it derail you - turn it into something positive to make you stay on track Smile that'll show 'em!
