Hi there, have recently split with my partner and am in need of a break! I would like to go somewhere abroad, possibly Sardinia with my DS who will turn 3 in June. Any suggestions would be great please. Budget - well the cheaper the better! Thanks

No suggestions I'm afraid but my dd is 3 in June and I want a holiday abroad to so I'm gonna keep my eye on this thread!

maisystar · 23/03/2005 09:20

i would like a hol too

are you both planning to go just with your ds/dd or with friends/family?

mummytosteven · 23/03/2005 09:34

what about getting an cheap flight (think easyjet or ryanair do cheap flights to Sardinia from London) and getting a hotel via internet (say if you stay somewhere recommended in Rough Guide/Lonely Planet)

if you're after a package you could find a cheapish package for Sicily, say, easier than Sardinia.

TheVillageIdiot · 23/03/2005 12:10

Maisystar, I'm planning to go with just dd but whether it's holiday or hell... remains to be seen

I think if I have a room with a balcony and nice view I'll be fine. As I'll just spend the evenings out there reading a book once dd is asleep

BunInTum · 23/03/2005 20:47

Hi guys

I'm single parent of one and taking her off to a 4 star hotel in Tenerife next week. I chose there as I spoke to a travel advisor who said there is lots to do for children, whale/penguin parks etc and she had booked other single parent families to same hotel, it's popular cos it has a good kids club which is great for little ones to make friends and allow you some free time to snooze by the pool or whatever you fancy.

pinkmamma · 23/03/2005 20:48

Hello
VillageIdiot (I feel very rude calling you that) when is yours 3? My boy is on 11 June. I am planning to leave the week after as that will hopefully mean I can get him into kids club - a couple of hours free a day will do me good I reckon!
Maisystar I am planning to go just me and my boy, my mum would go if i asked but i feel like being brave and doing it on my own.
I have found out today that the Thomson Skytours brochure has single parent family deals - I picked up the summer brochure and some of the hotels are marked as single parent family saver -prices a little confusing so I need to phone to get a quote but I will let you know the prices.
Maisystar how old are yours?

Just to add, about Sardinia, have been there a couple of times and it is lovely however on both occasions only came across about 4 Brits and generally people's English was not great so I really wouldn't recommend it for a single parent hol as you could feel a bit lonely for adult company or chit chat.

pinkmamma · 23/03/2005 21:09

Hi BuninTum
How old is your one? Your holiday sounds good - who did you book it through? Do you mind if I ask what price range it is?
I know what you mean about Sardinia, I only spent a couple of days there about 10 years ago - I speak Italian though cause I lived in Tuscany long time ago.
You will have to let us know how holiday goes - lucky you going next week!

Didn't think of Disneyland - would def agree, that is always great.

Hi Pinkmamma, I booked it all through the net in the end, flights came to £400 (quite dear cos it's Easter) and hotel is £600 - but I'm being greedy.

That said the hotel I'm going to is part of a hotel complex of 4 - 4/5 star hotels (called Mare Nostrum resort) and one of them is on teletext h/b for £399 - that's a package which includes flights and transfers etc so is pretty good for that standard of hotel at a peak time. Think I may have even seen it for less than that. It's called the Mediterranean Hotel if you r looking and is part of Thomson a la carte range I think.

BunInTum · 23/03/2005 21:25

Sorry forgot to add daughter is 7

TheVillageIdiot · 24/03/2005 09:32

Hi, dd will be 3 on the 27th June and I'm another who hadn't thought of disneyland.

I think I'd like to go where there are other brits (at least for the first time) just so I might get some adult coversation. I think I'll try and pick up one of those Thomson Brochures!

maisystar · 25/03/2005 09:21

Hi no suggestions im afraid,

I want to go on holiday too! im jealous all u guys going on hol. My son was 3 in Sept, i want to take him on hol this year, we've usually gone with my friend and kids but this year she's going with hubby and my parents are going to OZ, so a) too expensive and b) flight too long for DS i think!

Was thinking if anyone would be setting up a group hol or something on here fr lone parents? just a thought, i hate going places dont know anyone, any ideas?

Janna · 09/04/2005 22:44

hi honeypot01
you sound in the same situation as me. I really need to go on holiday but as i'm on my own with ds5 and dd2 i've got noone to go with. Don't think I'm quite brave enough (or able to afford going abroad though) but anywhere in this country would be great. Like your idea of a group hol. I'd be up for that myself!!

honeypot01 · 09/04/2005 22:55

Hi Janna

Even if its Butlins or something, but im sure can get a cheap deal with free kids places to Spain or sopething. Lets see how many responses there are to see whose up for it. I definately am, need to get out of London!!

Janna · 09/04/2005 23:25

hello again
sounds good to me. I've never been to Butlins or spain!! God I really need a holiday and a good laugh after the sh*t year i've had.
God I really should go to bed. I've got work in the morning.

SecondhandRose · 10/04/2005 08:32

Arent't there some single traveller holiday companies?

Louise1980 · 10/04/2005 08:40

Contact Gingerbread. They have loads of ideas and can tell you places which are discounted for gingerbread members.

They are recognised places too like British Holidays, Haven, Euro camp etc.

They also have places which will help you fund the trip!

Im a member as Im a lone parent too.

Ive been to Berwick Holiday Center with British holidays, they have loead to do and I made lots of friends in same position as me.

I thenk ther is a place called HELP or something to wich can help you going abroad. I will post a msg when I find stuff for you.

One Parent Families is also a good place to visit.
