Don’t have anyone to sign passport

I really want to take my children abroad but don’t have anyone to do their passports. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? (Don’t need any suggestions of who can sign it I’m aware and have looked through the list but don’t have anyone that can do it) is there anything else that can be done if you’ve been in this situation?

How about your DWP work coach if you haven’t worked for 2 years?

Doesn’t apply

I'm unsure what sort of situation the OP is in that mean this is impossible.

I have however seen similar posts where people insist they don't know anyone at all who could do it, which surprises me but I guess there must be very rare situations where this might be the case.

Again they don’t do it read the thread..

People are helpfully making suggestions as you will need to find someone to help you complete the application.

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 23/03/2025 18:48

@BlueBurys

Three years ago I was in the same situation, and at that time it was possible to make an appointment at the nearest passport office as a last resort.

Luckily dc is secondary school and a teacher took pity on us. We've still not taken the intended trip!

This thread has been brutal, hope you're okay.

MaMisled · 23/03/2025 18:48

Honestly, some of you are rabid! My comment about Witness Protection was just an exaggerated possibility as to why OP repeatedly reminded us she didn't need a list of people able to sign her children's passports. Maybe she's running away and doesn't want anyone to know. Lots of you partake in discussions like it's a cruel sport.

SoftPlaySaturdays · 23/03/2025 18:48

When people say "don't you have any teachers or doctors in your life", they presumably mean ones who are friends, or went to school with you, or went to university with you, or live next door, or whose kids are in your kids' class, or sing in your choir, or go to your Zumba class...

Those teachers and doctors absolutely can do it.

I won’t be updating, I think I’ve been jumped on enough.

You’ve barely updated anything! There have been no updates with regards to why neighbours / dentist / Brown Owl / netball coach / colleague / landlord / hairdresser / vet / optician / swimming teacher / any friend / parent at the school can’t do it.

I stand by my post an hour ago which said have a discreet, polite, ass licky chat with the nicest teacher in the school and explain that you are an international woman of mystery and would it be possible to sign the kids passports as a one off gesture. Explain you are in a real predicament. Say you are happy to donate pens, pencils , any supplies to your child’s class.

MummytoE · 23/03/2025 18:49

What about the manager of your local shop? Surely they would no you if you have been in and out with the kids. It does specify that if you can't find someone from a listed profession it can be someone with a good standing in the community

Katrinawaves · 23/03/2025 18:49

Your disability social worker? As you don’t have contact with the father of your children who isn’t on the birth certificate, your parents have no friends with professional qualifications (so you presumably aren’t a rich heiress) and you apparently also don’t have an employer, you must have some form of income. Who administers that, and why can’t they countersign for you?

of the same things that have been suggested already and have said over and over that they don’t do it? How is that helpful?

Flibberdigibbit · 23/03/2025 18:49

Good luck speaking to someone by phoning the passport office. You'll have more luck befriending someone who meets the required criteria than waiting the million hours it takes to get through!!

honestly I know you think you know no one, but you cannot have gotten to the point of having school age kids and know no one who has their own business, has a profession of any kind etc. Just ask in the school parents WhatsApp. Someone will sort you out.

I had been in New Zealand for a couple of months (or less) when I applied for a British passport. I got my manager to sign my passport anyway, writing a note saying why no one else could do it and it was accepted no problem. I already had an Irish passport though, so they might have been more lenient because of that.

Redflagsabounded · 23/03/2025 18:51

Give the OP a break. It takes a huge failure of imagination to not be able to think of circumstances where someone has noone to sign. I was in that situation myself once. There's been a couple of awful, bitchy posts on here.

Hope the advice line has a solution for you and you have an amazing holiday.

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 18:51

Right I will call tomorrow and try to sort it out. Won’t lose anything by calling but this thread is turning wild so I will leave it at that.

Thank you, I mean disability social worker really? And I’m the rude one, this thread has been absolutely spiteful. Never imagined I’d get so much vitriol.

Pembrokeshire is a great place to holiday, if you can’t get it sorted.

Beautiful beaches, kids loved it.

Again I don’t need suggestions but thanks I will call on Monday.

Why are you posting then?? 😕

UpsideDownChairs · 23/03/2025 18:54

OK, I'll give in.

I for one child, my sister's ex did it. For the next, I'd luckily only moved across the country, so I got my ex's brother's partner to do it.

I'm currently in the situation where I need to renew my child's 2nd passport, and need to find a national of that country - that I'm coming up empty on (I had a lead on a friend's colleague, but it turned out she didn't have a relevant passport), and will likely have to go to the embassy with a notorised (the notary at this point has known me more than 2 years at least) form.

But in the UK, for a UK passport, I just asked until I found someone who could/would. I asked anyone vaguely suitable until someone said yes.

Katrinawaves · 23/03/2025 18:55

Did you click on the link I posted upthread?

The Passport Office is so jaded by this they have an official page which says in terms: countersignature is mandatory, no exceptions and lots of people say they don’t have anyone who can sign but the reality is everyone does. So good luck getting a different answer from them!

And seriously, what do you live off money-wise as the provider of the money which feeds your children and pays your accommodation (whatever that may be) will be able to countersign. Even if you are self employed, a supplier or customer will be able to do it.

MichaelandKirk · 23/03/2025 18:56

You won’t answer any questions though and seem determined to claim you don’t have any friends, parents of your kids school friends. I do wonder re your children if what you say is correct.

They don’t seem to know anyone or have any friends round. This is very unusual.
