Hi.

I'm a single parent dad. Sadly I'm a widower that is raising a young boy. I'm also a freelance writer and have started a blog about my experiences that may be of interest to parents that use this forum.

Please visit me for more info and I would love if you would drop in some comments.

www.singleparentdad.blogspot.com/

I've just started the blog, and I'm looking for feedback to see if this is something that will interest people and will therefore be useful to continue towards and grow.

Thanks

SPD

Cool ChorusLine,

Did you like the feature? What did you think of the tips?

That was all my own work, I'm well chuffed with it. Hoping to contribute some more stuff to PP in the future. Though I think their Dads View page has already bitten the dust.

Not at all Misdee. Though it may take me some time to put myself through it properly. Good therapy I suppose. Does bring a lot of those memories back, but they were happy memories actually. She was so brave and came through it when lots don't.

peters heart problem wasnt to do with valves, he caught a virus which b*ggered up his heart (technical term ,that is lol), and it all went a bit crazy for a few years.

ChorusLine · 29/11/2007 23:29

Yes I thought it was lovely - I subscribe to PP and it was the first article I went to (i never read it in order!) as I am single parent to DS aged 2 (he does not have any contact - but thats a whole other story).

The tips were great and pretty much what i have always worked upon myself - for a few reasons i decided to return to work when DS was eleven months and he is in a nursery 3 days a week.

Yes Dad's view has disappeared

My DS has the same name as your lovely wife

ChorusLine · 29/11/2007 23:30

Also love Max's hair!

singleparentdad · 29/11/2007 23:35

You called a boy Samantha? How cruel

What's DS by the way, is it code or mumsnet speak?

Don't know if Dad's view omission is because of the issue and a lot of the magazine was handed over for the parent awards. I enjoyed reading that, and actually contacted one of the guys who is also a writer. Hope it comes back, and by that I mean as a regular feature from Single Parent Dad

DS = Dear Son or Darling Son. DD = Dear Daughter or Darling Daughter. etc etc. Sure some cross posters will explain better than me.

ChorusLine · 29/11/2007 23:44

For your cheek i will let you find the acronym list yourself!

you are new so here it is

So you are championing it for yourself then!!

I won a prize with PP for letter of the month!

ChorusLine · 29/11/2007 23:46

If link not working its at the top of the page.

singleparentdad · 29/11/2007 23:51

Cheers both, and hell yes. That's what I've decided I'm going to do. Always wanted to write. And now I have to find a career that ideally suits lone parenting. Writing is perfect. It's just going to take me a while to drum up the business by the look of it, but PP are keen on me writing again and are having a look at a pitch I sent them. Watch this space, well not this one exactly, but you know what I mean.

Good luck with it - will be checking PP then and keep us updated on here - it is addictive on here.

Going to bed now as only 6 hours until DS is up......

fortyplus · 29/11/2007 23:57

Hi singleparentdad. Hope you enjoy MN - you've probably realised already that there are quite a few men on here, too. Have you visited the men's room, yet?

You and your son are both gorgeous, by the way!

LuckyUnderpants · 30/11/2007 00:21

Welcome to MN, im fairly new here too, lots of good advice from baking a cake to boys wearing tights. Enjoy

fortyplus · 01/12/2007 10:43

...and you need to know that to keep your thread in the 'active conversations' you can 'bump' it... just type 'bump' (or anything - just a full stop will do) and whoever is online at that time will get to see it.

singleparentdad · 03/12/2007 21:22

Thanks again for all the messages, especially those I've not been quick to respond to.

Potty training is still a work in progress, but I've just added a post to the blog that you may find amusing and have your own stories to add.

I love him -

UniversallyChallenged · 03/12/2007 21:36

You write really well. Lol how's the end of the bed now, um, i mean your foot/leg !

Keep it up, i will be following it

singleparentdad · 03/12/2007 21:45

Thanks both. I hope you'll be back to read more in the future.

The bed's fine by the way, my leg however will not be the same again, well at least until the scab drops off!

Hi singleparentdad...
....and congratulations on the blog, I suspect most of us can identify with things on there. I was looking for a contact button or means of messaging you on there but can't find one, am I being dense here..?

Haidee x

singleparentdad · 04/12/2007 23:13

Hi Haidee,

Thank you very much. I'm new here but I think there is a message tab on the header of each post, right at the far end (little envelope). Otherwise you can get in touch via my website, look at the links on the right-hand side of my blog.

Ian

Hi Ian,
I'm being totally thick here...I can't actually find anywhere on your blog to PM you (and it costs a fiver on here, that's 2 packets of top trumps, a slimy alien that the dog will choke on or a big sticker book for the christmas stockings!)

Am I missing something totally obvious? I did look at all the right hand panels on your site.

Well done on the magazine contract by the way!

I think there is a contact-able thing on the blog, but you have to register???I was going to, (cos he looks georgous) but I didn;'t have time...
