Me and DH have a night away this Saturday in London and we’re looking for a nice restaurant to go to. We like Le Petit Maison, Zuma, Scott’s but would like somewhere with a bit of atmosphere. Nothing too crazy but something lively would be good as we haven’t been out together in ages. Any recommendations welcomed 🙏🏻

Just wanted to return to this thread as I've been eating my way around some of the recommendations! Not Rules yet but it's clearly a must-try. The Timeout top 50 list which came out this week has some pretty tempting recommendations too.

OP, how was Coya?

Rules is great and after eating there if you go to the pub opposite ( the Punch and Judy ) it has a viewing space upstairs where you can see all the street performers too. Well worth doing.

Thanks for the recommendation! Love a pub with a view

I don’t think the Punch and Judy is opposite Rules but I could be wrong

Thanks for all the recommendations. Someone said do we want somewhere with lots of people and loud music- not at all! By atmosphere I mean somewhere buzzy, not nightclub vibes! One of our faves was always Clos Maggiore, haven’t been for a while so not sure if it’s still as good and it’s very romantic but wanted somewhere maybe a little more upbeat on this occasion.

Just to share another place that’s been recommended to me in real life- Fallow. Too late now to get a reservation but as we’re sharing recs k thought I’d pass on!

I've been to Fallow, food was great and it's definitely 'buzzy' although I found it hard to relax. The tables are too close together and the staff seem stressed.

I was disappointed by Zedels I must say.

it's gone downhill, used to be fab.

Davros · 28/05/2025 11:29

@lifeisgoodrightnow I see what you mean. It’s nearby

You were right to clarify :-)

Not sure if anyone has said this one but Brunswick House is very atmospheric and the food is always interesting. It's in a Georgian house next to skyscrapers in Vauxhall and the rest of the building is Lassco reclamation so the interiors are fun.

I’ve driven past that house a million times and never been in. It’s so beautiful in such a terrible position. I must make a plan to go

Davros · 05/06/2025 10:41

@Oceangrey that sounds great and I’ve never heard of it before

Same! This is very local to me and yes, only every driven past. I always thought it seemed very out on a limb but I see is only 2 mins from Vauxhall tube so I will try - thank you for the rec!

Another recommendation for the Devonshire - great food and fab atmosphere re, the staff are lovely. Also love Cloth in Farringdon, v similar vibe to Andrew Edmunds.

Oceangrey · 05/06/2025 14:23

Yep, also local to me and I'd been to Lassco but never the restaurant. It was great.

It was nice enough, food was good but I think I’d try somewhere a bit more unique next time. Which ones have you been to from the recommendations?
