Restaurant with atmosphere London

Me and DH have a night away this Saturday in London and we’re looking for a nice restaurant to go to. We like Le Petit Maison, Zuma, Scott’s but would like somewhere with a bit of atmosphere. Nothing too crazy but something lively would be good as we haven’t been out together in ages. Any recommendations welcomed 🙏🏻

I really dislike London and I think it's so overrated. And always so crowded, and don't get me started on the Tube and the behaviour of people on there. No wonder people are always so naturally angry and anxious and on edge. Such utter rude behaviour. I tend to not go as much as possible.

blizymitzy · 06/05/2025 21:56

Langan’s or quaglino’s would get my vote

I don’t think that was the question Confused
circolo popularo in Fitzrovia or carlotta in Marylebone have great food and a lot of atmosphere.

Rules is the best imo but expensive

Brasserie Zedel, but don't tell anyone else.

My previous all time favourite but have you been there recently? Still lovely but only about 60% as good an experience since new ownership. Sadly!

FrodoBiggins · 06/05/2025 23:54

Noble Rot lovely if you like wine.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 07/05/2025 00:47

Sushi samba

We love it there.

If cost is an issue, the upstairs bar is pleasant and then there are other places nearby for a meal.

Great recommendation from the funsponge @Keyanski

@oceanaus, I highly recommend Rogues in Bethnal Green if you wanted to head East.

I like that Rogues sounds like a naughty alternative to the top suggestion Rules

Lucky Cat fits with the other restaurants you like.

If that’s the vibe you want and you want to stay in that part of town, I prefer Hakkasan or Yauatcha. Hakkasan is probably the most romantic atmosphere of the 3.

Off topic, last weekend I had two people independently offer me their seats on a ten minute tube journey when I was carrying my child. I felt a bit sheepish when we ended up all standing. Some people’s behaviour…

On topic, Hakkasan is great.

belleadele · 07/05/2025 07:35

The Ned?

CurlewKate · 07/05/2025 07:48

Joe Allan’s?

oceanaus · 07/05/2025 17:07

Thanks for all the recs. Not overly keen on the Ned or Sushi Samba. I’ve been to Rules and did like it but was looking for something a little more funky on this occasion. I’ve asked a few people in RL and a lucky cat gets mixed reviews. My DH normally picks and he often picks places he’s been to with work but I’m always a bit disappointed 😂 I know im sounding like hard work I promise I’m not but they’re always so overpriced and not worth it IMO. Last date night was Baccahnalia and it just didn’t live up to the hype and I came out hungry 😂 I do like the Big Mamma group restaurants so maybe one of those is worth a try. We like Yautcha but have been a lot both together and with work so would like to try somewhere different

Our favourite date night restaurant was always the punch bowl in Essex and have struggled to replace it since it closed. It was like a whole experience rather than just dinner. I find a lot of the trendy places in london have you in and out within 2 hours having spent £4/£500 and I always feel short changed

Wolseley? Always buzzy.
