Restaurant with atmosphere London

Me and DH have a night away this Saturday in London and we’re looking for a nice restaurant to go to. We like Le Petit Maison, Zuma, Scott’s but would like somewhere with a bit of atmosphere. Nothing too crazy but something lively would be good as we haven’t been out together in ages. Any recommendations welcomed 🙏🏻

I find Lucky Cat is like eating in a nightclub. Great service but loud music. However, you sound cooler than me so that might suit your vibe.

If you like a clubby atmosphere, Sachi (at the former Pantechnicon) is good (Japanese). They also have the Amelie (French) restaurant there, which is sophisticated and calmer.

A foodie friend has been raving about Milos (St James sq area) but I haven't tried it.

I really dislike London and I think it's so overrated. And always so crowded, and don't get me started on the Tube and the behaviour of people on there. No wonder people are always so naturally angry and anxious and on edge. Such utter rude behaviour. I tend to not go as much as possible.

Good for you. But not answering the OP’s question so you might as well have not bothered to comment. Go be angry elsewhere.

Cynic17 · 07/05/2025 17:31

What does "a bit of atmosphere" actually mean, OP? Itt sounds like you don't really choose a restaurant for the food, tbh.Do you want live music? Hundreds of noisy people? Somewhere that is considered fashionable?
I don't think I know any of those 😂

'What does "a bit of atmosphere" actually mean, OP?'

Really good question - I usually avoid places with 'atmosphere', because they tend to be noisy and crowded.

My recommendation would be Blacklock - several branches to choose from, great steaks, buzzy fun vibe and friendly staff

Demartino on Great Portland Street

Literally no one asked.

Manteca! Delicious food and very buzzy

My previous all time favourite but have you been there recently? Still lovely but only about 60% as good an experience since new ownership. Sadly!

Agree completely. Went just over a year ago and it was really poor.

Another vote for Rules but I also like J Sheekey and Wolsey . I love those old style London restaurants where I feel , as a lady, I shouldn’t be showing me ankles!

Ha same. I heard Jeremy King is reopening Simpsons on the Strand in the autumn. This may be my new Zedel replacement...

LadyHester · 07/05/2025 22:42

Bob Bob Ricard is always fun

Or Ciao Bella on Lamb’s Conduit Street

Thanks for all the recs. Not overly keen on the Ned or Sushi Samba. I’ve been to Rules and did like it but was looking for something a little more funky on this occasion. I’ve asked a few people in RL and a lucky cat gets mixed reviews. My DH normally picks and he often picks places he’s been to with work but I’m always a bit disappointed 😂 I know im sounding like hard work I promise I’m not but they’re always so overpriced and not worth it IMO. Last date night was Baccahnalia and it just didn’t live up to the hype and I came out hungry 😂 I do like the Big Mamma group restaurants so maybe one of those is worth a try. We like Yautcha but have been a lot both together and with work so would like to try somewhere different

You might like shakfuyu OP

Besideourselves · 07/05/2025 22:45

Devonshire Soho buzzy without the nightclub vibe but I really don’t like the Big Mamma group restaurants that I’ve been to so we prob have diifering tastes.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 07/05/2025 22:47

Sexy Fish? Lucky cat is good there is a new one on bishopsgate.

QueenOfWeeds · 07/05/2025 22:49

Another vote for Shack FuYu. We had one of the set menu options and added in a few favourites from the main menu. Stuffed but v happy afterwards!

Dazedandconfusedma · 07/05/2025 22:49

I was going to suggest the sister restaurant Gloria in Shoreditch- such a great group of restaurants!

ZoeyBartlett · 07/05/2025 22:49

Berners Tavern

I did not like Bob Bob City, it was awful!

CaurnieBred · 07/05/2025 22:57

Old Compton Brasserie is buzzy, with a DJ and fab cocktails.

Oh I loooove it there. Especially outside on a warm night. But I think OP might be looking more high end. Thanks for reminding me it existed though might go this month!

semideponent · 07/05/2025 23:23

Moro in Exmouth Market (foodie vibe)

Carlotta in Marylebone High St (never been but want to go)

Soutine St Johns Wood - Parisian vibe and very popular

River Cafe's next door bit where you don't need a reservation

I didn't like the atmosphere at BBR but the food was good.

Great thread and glad to have these suggestions.

Hermiaxx · 07/05/2025 23:35

Cafe Murano (Covent Garden) I love it there just a tiny smidge more than Bocca de Lupo (which is also fab).

if you want somewhere more like LPM then maybe Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental (life’s too short not to try tipsy cake!)?

GrimDamnFanjo · 07/05/2025 23:39

Rules.

Ah I never manage to get a reservation in time for Moro and often end up at Morito (which I love, and is kinder on my wallet). Must try again
