Bad vibes in certain places in london

Does anyone else just get a horrid feeling in certain places in london?

The only one that particularly freaks me out is Russel Square tube station. I feel so much sadness and get quite on edge down on the platforms and I don't know why! Does anyone else feel this way about anywhere in London?

Euston is horrible, and the surrounding area. I used to go to a pub nearby that was like a safe haven but it burned down 😢 often have to meet family off the train and trying to find somewhere to hang about that's not hellish is difficult. Any recommendations of alternative safe havens may alleviate my symptoms of dread.

And Hackney, had to go to a contact centre once, it was horrendous.

And Feltham. Contact centre related again, but an absolute dump in its own right.

Friends house, just opposite from Euston

Lovely cafe with nice cake, a garden area and very nice and clean toilets

Speaking as a Londoner, I really dislike Camden and I was never fond of Edgeware Road

BathshebaEverdene1 · 03/05/2024 00:47

Talking of Edgware Road, a couple of years back I went to some square in Paddington with my son and thought it was the creepiest and most sinister place I had been to in London.

Creepybookworm · 03/05/2024 00:52

Neasden.

FrothyCothy · 03/05/2024 00:52

I used to bus up and down parts of the Edgware Road, always quite liked the busy-ness of it.

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/05/2024 00:56

There’s a strange bit of the Thames Path between Woolwich Arsenal and Woolwich Dockyard, next to the old dry docks and gun range, which I always found incredibly eerie when I lived there and it was my running route. I actually really liked Woolwich overall, and even the Woolwich Foot Tunnel which I used several times a week, whilst usually completely desolate, never gave me the creeps; but this particular part just had an odd feeling of quiet and a sense of being watched to it. There was a disused and dilapidated housing estate just along from it which was squatted by odd types for years, which probably didn’t help.

It’s probably all changed now, I moved out right as it got the Elizabeth line. I expect there’s a wanky farmers market on my patch of creep now.

I used to live in London and Camden gave me the creeps. The whole tube system also gave me the creeps, I struggle to think of many stations that were not dismal.

Essex Road station is the worst

Both Euston and Mile End station make me anxious and on edge then I feel like I'm on the verge of tears due to overwhelming emotion. There is a wash of feeling walking through Euston for me but with Mile End it's by the platforms. The only things I could think it could be is the poor lighting and dinginess, perhaps feeling trapped underground at Mile End. Or in the 00s, it seemed like whenever there was someone who'd jump in front of a train on my multiple trains to work, it'd be at Mile End.

Not sure about Euston though.

Have to agree with many of the posters
here mine:

Archway - it feels so dodgy and unsafe especially in the streets surrounding archway park - saw someone get bashed up and bloodied in broad daylight outside Aldi and no one even battered an eyelid - poor guy.

Angel - although the place is so trendy, I always feel unsafe there not sure why. The place has a bad vibe - esp the side streets - I always feel someone might mug me from behind at night

Finsbury Park - to be fair it feels much better these days but it’s one of those places where I am always watching my back

Neveralonewithaclone · 03/05/2024 02:47

Ah yes, Neasden. Awful place, I think it would be so grey and trafficky living there. Although home to Graham Young the Teacup Poisoner.

bradpittsbathwater · 03/05/2024 02:50

Mitcham is so miserable and depressing. It's where hope goes to die.

LincolnshireLassInLondon · 03/05/2024 02:56

Crossbones Graveyard and Remembrance Garden near London Bridge.

It was a “paupers” graveyard for hundreds of years and final resting place of medieval sex workers who worked just outside of the boundaries of the City. It’s been beautifully restored by volunteers as a place of peace and contemplation, which is wonderful, but my goodness the vibes there are something else.

betsisherman · 03/05/2024 03:23

Archway Road and some parts of West London, kind of 'nameless' areas on the outskirts of or in between the more familiar posh neighbourhoods. And pretty much everywhere along the North Circular!

Gnomegarden32 · 03/05/2024 04:28

Agree some of those Piccadilly line stations feel like you're burrowing into the bowels of the earth - very claustrophobic and unbearably hot in summer.

Also agree with Finsbury Park - I was walking to the tube once in the dark and the atmosphere was edgy and sinister in a way I've never experienced before or since.

I find picturesque places like Highgate and Hampstead very claustrophobic and surreal, like being on a film set.

Croydon

Not really London, it's Surrey.

dhxxx · 03/05/2024 05:29

I always get bad vibes at Brixton. Hate walking out of the station - always so many people hanging around and not all of them nice! Brixton in generally makes me wary, had many uncomfortable incidents there!

was just coming on to say this! I love london and I love the tube but this station was just - creepy.

lifesrichpageant · 03/05/2024 06:02

There is a bicycle/towpath in NorthEast London that takes you towards the Lee reservoir - I was told it would be scenic and lovely but all I remember are burnt out cars, piles of stained mattresses and a stack of burning tires. Felt like a dystopian film and I found it all distressing/upsetting!

Pimlico feels cold and soulless with its row upon row of white stucco houses. I had a boyfriend who lived there many moons ago (in a very ordinary flat).
Also, irrationally, it makes me think of the repulsive Charlie Mullins, owner of Pimlico Plumbers.

I love Pimlico . It is full of politicians and tourists, it is walking distance to everywhere (hence the tourists) and you can hear Big Ben as you fall asleep because it is surprisingly quiet for zone 1.

Oh yes, you are right!

We were walking up from the olympic park and it's a lovely path all the way up to the lock at Tottenham marshes and a bit beyond, but then... OMG. It feels like the end of the world until you get through the industrial wasteland.

That whole area will be entirely different in 15 years and honestly, it needs to be.

Yalta · 03/05/2024 07:30

Hampstead and Highgate. Beautiful area but feel complete doom going through

I haven’t been through them for years. I would rather sit in traffic and drive further to avoid the places.

Going past the Spaniards is the worse feeling. I just get a feeling of death by hanging.
Creeps me out

Civilservant · 03/05/2024 07:32

Y, dislike Euston and Russell Square stations!

RobBeckettsGiantTeeth · 03/05/2024 07:35

Belvedere. God, it's bleak.
