Bad vibes in certain places in london

Does anyone else just get a horrid feeling in certain places in london?

The only one that particularly freaks me out is Russel Square tube station. I feel so much sadness and get quite on edge down on the platforms and I don't know why! Does anyone else feel this way about anywhere in London?

I raise you... £7 for a slice of banana bread with wanky 'espresso butter' in Balham

£7 is ridiculous but oh my word that sounds amazing and I’m going to have to try it at home!

Off to Google espresso butter….

RosesAndHellebores · 02/05/2024 22:43

There was once a serious tube accident at Moorgate.

StellaGibson2022 · 02/05/2024 22:47

What was the Barclays Bank window about?

SplendidRhododendronsDeirdre · 02/05/2024 22:48

I used to work in Wapping and get the tube to Shadwell and walk. Shadwell gave me the heebie jeebies.

I also hate Leicester Square. Always hang onto my bag extra tight there.

Much prefer the vibe of SE London to SW London in general. And prefer it to any bits of North London.

OMG went to Croydon as somebody recommended a seamstress there. Parked in this empty multi storey car park, a bizarre half shut down mall. Then out to the street I felt everyone was on a day release from the nearest institution. Weirdly we were surrounded by modern high rise office blocks. So weird.

Quick Google as I didn’t know about the bank incidents

This is where the majority of the fatalities happened in 7/7 and the casualties were brought out through the station, so maybe you're picking up on something there, who knows.

That is ridiculous - there is no spot in London which hasn't seen catastrophe and tragedy at some point in the past - you know, being a 2 thousand year old city and all

Leopardmatches · 02/05/2024 22:55

Yes! The area around Tooley Street, Elizabeth Street and Tower Bridge Road. I get a feeling of doom. It’s horrible. And a sort of loud chatter in my head. It lasts seconds but takes my breath away.

Saschka · 02/05/2024 22:57

Euston is bleak.

The Bakerloo line platforms at Waterloo permanently smell of vomit. Not so much bad vibes as bad air.

Pallisers · 02/05/2024 23:04

We stayed in Lambs Conduit street one holiday and it was lovely. But walking through Russel square was surprisingly dismal.

@Bear2014 after getting back to the hotel I did have a google of Russel Square! I just felt such an odd feeling when on the platform which just wouldn't shift, I needed to research the place when I had the time. This was the first thing that came up. So upsetting :( I didn't know the location of where any of the attacks happened. It'll definitely be on my mind whenever I'm there.

@stevens27 I think it's more likely that it's because Russell Square Tube is one of those creepy ones where there is only lift access and (unlike Covent Garden) often is not very busy)
The Picadilly line is a very deep tube line and I think it's more likely you are having an unsettled feeling of claustrophobia from the lift deep access compounded by the relative quietness of that tube station.

Espresso butter is yukky old buttercream with coffee stirred in! I’m going to open a cake shop!
as kids we lived near angel tube. It felt very old and Dickensian round there. Loved that. Don’t like all the modern zing and zip. No character or feeling of layers of time.

I absolutely adore London but agree parts are horrific and yes that includes Euston station. A total shit hole.

It's not confined to London though. I went to Nottingham and comment get out fast enough. It felt threatening and unattractive. Urgh. I hope I never go there again.

MsMuffinWalloper · 02/05/2024 23:36

I'm sure Battersea Power Station was used in every police drama in the 80/90s and there were inevitably ravers dead with drugs or some gang shooting each other. I suppose that give it some negative vibes to me.

I get the creeps in Camden.

Euston is horrible, and the surrounding area. I used to go to a pub nearby that was like a safe haven but it burned down 😢 often have to meet family off the train and trying to find somewhere to hang about that's not hellish is difficult. Any recommendations of alternative safe havens may alleviate my symptoms of dread.

And Hackney, had to go to a contact centre once, it was horrendous.

And Feltham. Contact centre related again, but an absolute dump in its own right.

DrFroggy · 02/05/2024 23:44

I love London, I live here and generally feel safe. However, Croydon is horrendous (and I grew up there!) and also for some reason I really don’t feel comfortable in Camberwell which I can’t really explain because I really like lots of nearby areas, used to work in Brixton and Clapham, currently work in Islington and live in Tooting, all of which I’m fine with. I just find Camberwell really unsettling for some reason.

WhatapityWapiti · 02/05/2024 23:44

Controversial, but I struggle with Stamford Hill because of how closed the community feels there- all the shops with their drab windows that are clearly not for gentiles, the men rushing about with their eyes looking at the ground, the security guards on all the corners.

The Wellcome Collection/Museum, e min walk on the opposite side of the Rd had a nice cafe.

I love living in London and feel comfortable most places but have to agree with others and give another vote for Croydon - particularly around East Croydon station (including in daylight). I think it’s time to knock the place down and start again ASAP!

GreenShady · 02/05/2024 23:53

A few minutes walk across from Euston over the road and you are in lovely Bloomsbury - lots of lovely green squares!

Sasqwatch · 02/05/2024 23:55

Newham

GreenShady · 02/05/2024 23:55

Agree about Croydon - it has got considerable worse in the last 10 years.

But Russell Square (please give it back the missing l) is lovely - there's a Waitrose for one thing 😂
