Vbus half my immediate family have migrated to Wilts. I spent a day looking at villages (in right catchment area) and school we would join.

But coiuldn't find anywhere as nice as kew apart from Biddestone, which has no family sized houses

Besides which, there was a lack of M&S Food halls

Boogy woogy from gardens has ceased, must've been a practice

sfxmum · 06/07/2009 21:57

Kew Swing starts tomorrow night we are going on Wednesday

thinking of ideas for picnic

OP posts:
pcworld · 07/07/2009 08:40

Auntie, I luuuurve Biddestone - but as you say, wot - no M&S?!

Not much going on here today, am feeling a distinct lack of inspiration

mygreatauntgriselda · 07/07/2009 08:45

lol PC - I think country living is not all its cracked up to be. My sister lives in \Box and its very bitchy (although that could just be her ). Plus there are no pavements so they have to drive everywhere: not v healthy. We were on the verge of moving down there but I realy think the quality of life is so much better in Richmond and the schools are far better here than Wilshire (which surprised me)

Is Jools on tonight then?

Boogy Woogy!!

mygreatauntgriselda · 07/07/2009 08:45

SFX who are you seeing tomorrow at Kew?

mygreatauntgriselda · 07/07/2009 08:47

Jst checked Summer Swing programme: Jools 2nite and Bjorn Again 2morrow (for SFX) I hope its nice and loud so I can dance round the house

slng · 07/07/2009 11:00

Good morning!

DS1 off on another school trip!

DS2 had a misunderstanding about where DS1 was going, because the term for "picture gallery" in Chinese had a sound that's similar to "wolf", and we have been watching the old Disney Peter and the Wolf cartoon ... Would have made for a most peculiar school trip...

sfxmum · 07/07/2009 11:14

isn't Peter and the wolf traditional children's fare?

about country living I so dream of it but only in dream fantasy life, some people dream of hunky men I dream of country estates

auntie not ignoring sorry just had laptop off
yes Bjorn Again along with Jive talking can't believe how many bee gees songs I actually know camptastic evening ahead

sadly dd's nursery teacher is leaving, last day Friday, I think dd will be upset

speaking of whom we had a disagreement this morning and she huffily told me 'I am not your daughter any more'

deeply uninspired and having identity crisis here I think, so no change there at least went running and the rain came rather helpfully at the end to cool me off

OP posts:
slng · 07/07/2009 11:49

sfx - so who do you think you are today? I don't really have identity crisises (plural of crisis!?) I think. Or do I!?

vbus · 07/07/2009 11:50

hello

Slng - agreed, lobster thing was pretty weird but quite amusing

Sfx - yay to Bjorn again, sounds like fun hope the rain keeps away.

Auntie/pcw - I think I like the idea of country living but only in maybe 10yrs time, I like my socialising and shopping far too much atm But would gladly live in their house, it was huge and gorgeous and cost the the same as their 2bed house in Twick!

Just back from Cheeky Monkeys, free cake!
DS1 has his nursery induction this afternoon. I've let him stay for lunch at preschool today so we can go straight from there, he will be shattered later on. Will have Beebies at the ready as soon as we get home

sfxmum · 07/07/2009 15:09

slng today I am mostly being freaked out by Pushy parent misery misery details in person

I do hope the weather holds tomorrow night last year it was soggy but not raining when we were there
am thinking of doing a Puy lentil salad maybe a couscous salad too to eat with chicken and fresh bread, that sounds ok? might bake a cake or muffins for pudding, they sell lovely discount South African wine there

dh's ex is sleeping over at the end of the month that should be fun/ interesting

OP posts:
slng · 07/07/2009 17:30

sfx - didn't know you were acquainted with Pushy Parent. Picnic sounds great. Pretty soggy here at the moment but hopefully not so tomorrow for you!

Baked barm bread! Traditional English wheaten bread, apparently ... Will taste it later.

sfxmum · 07/07/2009 18:16

slng it is much worst that you might imagine

bread sound good, most bread is in fact yummy
have lasagne in oven

OP posts:
vbus · 07/07/2009 19:20

Sfx - Oh dear, being haunted by PP can't be good. Picnic fodder sounds nice though

Today I met the Keeny Beany parent who was ultra cheesy and overly pally with everyone Aside from that nursery visit went really well.

Going to try and watch TW while I wait for Tesco delivery. last week my choc had melted, I guess I won't have that problem this week

slng · 07/07/2009 19:29

sfx - she (don't know why I assume it's a woman) is your neighbour? Best friend?

We were given some article today about children's "emergent writing" and how to help your child to write. Very patronising. I think the worst term is "mark-making". FFS.

Kids in bed. DH out. Let's do some work!

sfxmum · 07/07/2009 22:19

keeny beeny never heard that before

slng neighbour and compatriot apparently ffs I am doomed found that out in the lift this morning

could hear the music tonight and the fireworks just finished

Torchwood has been amusing

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 08/07/2009 08:59

keeny beeny

Don't seem to have had any keeny beenies or PP at ds1's nursery, I'm sure they're out there though, just haven't come across them yet!

Slng, lol @ ds1's school trip!

Sfx, am hoping the rain holds off for tonight for you! Btw, you do posh picnics, where's the sausages?

mygreatauntgriselda · 08/07/2009 13:25

SFX what picnic treats are u taking? Think kit will be dry tonight for you

Slng

Who is PP - wonder if I know them?

Talking of which, DS1 is playing saxophone in a music concert tonight!!!!! He has a terribly sore throat so will be calpolled/nurophenned to the eyeballs

Had parent teacher meets last night for him and DD. Always gets me anxious but they were fine. DD had a lovely teacher next year

Just applying for DS2 to go to the school nursery!!! Where have all my babies gone?

mygreatauntgriselda · 08/07/2009 13:25

have shortlised two dates for nite out so feel free to express a preference

sfxmum · 08/07/2009 14:23

hello all

auntie where are the babies indeed?! even the new ones are looking decidedly big, anyone pregnant?

dd has mates going tonight and they are hatching a plan to meet up so tots moshpit alert

fetched auntie she is teaching dd some more portuguese
have changed plans and now have tortillas, chicken and tricolore salad, olives & crusty bread (shop bought) must decide what to bake for pudding soon just as soon as I have some lunch

fingers crossed not too soggy tonight

OP posts:
pcworld · 08/07/2009 14:53

Hellooo (quickly ) - SFX, that is, indeed, a posh picnic! Hope you have a fabulous time, am v

Hope everyone else is well, am off to school now so the heavens will no doubt open again, lol!

slng · 08/07/2009 16:22

Hello!

Just got DS1's school report. Everything well, apparently.

I know a PP too. I was accused of being negligent and having "low standards".

sfxmum · 09/07/2009 10:19

hello all

slng you a slack parent? does that mean yours don't do enough extra activities?

pcW not posh just easy and foreign I think

well that was nice yesterday, sunny picnic but rain when Bjorn Again came on, oh well it was fun, dd spent most of her time dancing at the front with dh, weirdly they did a BonJovi number which dd sang along to the lyrics of YMCA must have heard one to many 'Just a minute'

she looks very tired this morning but wanted to go to nursery and discuss the previous night with the mates she met there
there is a nursery graduation party this afternoon

anyone following Torchwood?

OP posts:
slng · 09/07/2009 10:31

Hello,

SFX - saw pics on FB. Nice! I think I'm pretty pushy compared to lots of parents, mainly because I love teaching the kids things and there is nothing like a child's eyes lighting up when they "get" something and I'm too selfish to let other people have the pleasure. Which is why we don't do a lot of "activities" ... But you can surely assess progress, at least at this stage, without reference to other people's achievement. Rifling through other people's bookbags and finding out which "set" they are in and worrying that they will be disadvantaged if they don't get in the "top set" is just so dull. Not for me!

Anyway parents' evening today. What should I ask?

sfxmum · 09/07/2009 10:44

do people check book bags of children other than their own? I have heard that a full on program of activities is 'the thing' which I shall ignore
what was that thing you should not really aim to teach but rather create the conditions where learning can happen or something

I hope I manage to get dd home without meltdown and get her to nap before going back to nursery
