New to Leeds - 2 yr old and one on the way......

We have just relocated to Leeds (although we did live here 10 years ago) and I am feeling a bit nervous about being a SAHM again in a new city! I have a 2 yr old and the second is due in 4 weeks.

I am looking for any advice on groups and activities for my toddler daughter (we live just off Street Lane nr to Moortown and Roundhay)and/or anyone who would like to meet up for a coffee and run round the park - especially if your kids are of a similar age.

hi saffron

I'm further over towards Meanwood and there are lots of things going on around this area; just look in the listings section of the local site.

My DD is a bit younger than your DS and will be 17 months when the baby arrives in November.

Roundhay Park is pretty good as I'm sure you know already and Tropical World is always good for a rainy day . If you get a Leeds card (think they cost £7.50) then you get in for free.

There is an NCT postnatal group for toddlers on Wednesday mornings at the Children's Centre in Chapel Allerton (just off Potternewton Lane before the traffic lights at the junction of Harrogate Road) It's on from 10:30 - 12ish iirc. I've not been for ages, but my older DS is back at school on Tuesday so I'm hoping to get back there on a regular basis.

Welcome back to Leeds; I've only been here three years and can remember how daunting it is being in a new place.

Aarrgghh · 31/08/2008 09:16

Hi Saffron welcome to Leeds - I am at the other side of Leeds (Woodlesford) so probably not much help but wanted to say hi

Look out for a poster called Tribpot who is over your way.

lulalullabye · 31/08/2008 09:32

Hey saffron, I live in Roundhay/Gledhow, just round the corner probably. We also have an nct group, probably better than chappel allerton .

Anyway we meet on a monday morning and fri aft for a more toddler orientated meeting. If you look on the nct website and find the leeds groups you will be able to ring the coordinator and hopefully we will see you tomorrow.

Leeds is a great place for kids I have found. We have been here since Sept last year and have made so many friends.

P.S i have a two yr old and a 1 yr old, so definatly a running partner for yours !!

LackaDAISYcal · 31/08/2008 09:44

Hoi

It probably is actually; ours got so big we had to move to premises as we couldn't all fit in people's living rooms

Maybe we should try and set up a Leeds MN group. I know a couple of other Leeds MNers as well.

lulalullabye · 31/08/2008 09:49

That would be really good. I know a few leeds MNers also but they don't always admit to it. Dh's osteopaths wife is always on MN apparantly, are you out there ???

Anyway yes that would be good. I did meet a few chappel allerton nct people recently and they were very funny. One of my friends goes to both so she knows everybody !

saffron71 · 31/08/2008 18:51

Cheers guys!

We have already discovered Tropical World and DD has fallen in love with the fish projection in the visitors centre in Roundhay. We also got to the Middleton Railway today before it chucked it down. She thought the train was a bit noisy though and made a VERY girly fuss about it.

Lula - I'll get in touch with your NCT group, although we won't make it tomorrow - still waiting in for people to come round and sort the house out...... Roundhay/Gledhow is where we ultimately hope to end up - curse the economic downturn that has forced us into rented accommodation because no-one wants to buy our London flat .

A Leeds meet up sounds like a great idea - maybe we can squeeze one in before I drop No 2?

No worries, if you start going stir crazy give me a shout and I will let you know my address and you can escape !!

saffron71 · 01/09/2008 21:41

Lula

A nice woman sent me a Really Useful List of Stuff - including venues for the Mon/Fri meet ups.

Fridays are bang in the middle of nap times, but I will try to make it next Monday morning.

We did A Lot of Running in the park today - at this rate I may end up giving birth in the Visitor Centre.

Hi. I'm in Colton, so probably not much help but just wanted to show my face as a Leeds MNer.

Loads of local green space in Leeds, Roundhay, Lotherton Hall, Temple Newsam, Harewood House, Kirkstall Abbey. That's what I like about Leeds, you never seem to have to go far before you reach what feels like the countryside.

Welcome to Leeds, it's fab and I'm sure you will grow to love it!

lulalullabye · 01/09/2008 22:35

I saw the nice lady today i think, she said there had been an enquiry.

Look forward to seeing you on Monday

soremummy · 01/09/2008 22:47

lulalullabye · 02/09/2008 09:22

Hello everybody. See people are sneaking out of the woodwork to join the leeds club, yey

frankiesbestfriend · 02/09/2008 09:25

Ooh, soremummy is your dd school age?

frankiesbestfriend · 02/09/2008 09:28

I don't think early 40s is an old mum, either, soremummy. Seems to be the norm at dds school.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 09:45

soremummy, I would have said you were much younger. You definately don't look 40 .

soremummy · 02/09/2008 18:54

lol Daisy thanks for the compliment I'm 42. hows the bump coming along?

frankiesbestfriend I have a 17 yr old, 15 yr old, 14yr old and one nearly 16 months need to find what school that is because I know I will be classed as old at our school lol but have worked it out that I might be able to get eldest to take her to school for me

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 18:57

bump is grand ......9 weeks to go (give or take)...and I'll be 40 three months after giving birth, but I didn't start with babies till I was 33

stormy1 · 02/09/2008 21:27

We are in Roundhay too - what about a MNers meeting at starbucks followed by a walk to the park???

Roundhay is a fab place for kids. My LO is four months and we go to the park nearly every day to get him to nap!!!

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 21:50

that sounds good to me stormy

BroccoliSpears · 02/09/2008 21:55

I'm not far from Roundhay either. I've got a 2-year-old and a 4-month-old. I walk the dog in Roundhay park a lot, but would be up for leaving the dog behind and meeting mners for a walk instead.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 22:00

The dog would be welcome as well Brocolli

stormy1 · 03/09/2008 08:58

I have a dog too brocolli! what about next week sometime? dogs, babies and fresh air - bliss xxx

mistlethrush · 03/09/2008 09:21

Hi Daisy!

There's a really nice music group in the Roundhay area too - BeeSharp - the person that does it lives in Roundhay area, its not too 'this is what we have to do on todays lesson plan and I'll squeeze it into the 1/2 hour whatever' which is my impression of some of the other classes - a bit more relaxed and able to take the individual children slightly more into account. Ds loved it.

I'm in north Leeds, a bit further west.

Ds (3.5) starts school next Tuesday though - its a bit hectic in our household at the moment, I think most things are named...

Didn't bring the dog to the meet-up in Roundhay, although she would have loved to come....

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 09:32

hello again mistlethrush

gosh 3.5 is a bit young! DS started when 4 and a bit and I thought that was too young.

next week sometime would be good for me . The cafe has reopened at Roundhay as well and they do lovely gluten free cakes

soremummy · 03/09/2008 09:35

Hi ladies I could probably do next week as well
