New thread for new month!

OP posts:
rosmerta · 21/04/2008 21:58

thanks foxie, I guess we'll fill the form in on Thurs & then get the last token on Fri & send it off straightaway

ComeOVeneer · 21/04/2008 22:13

HI all. Can't make Kew tomorrow. Am child free between 9am and 3pm (ds has a full day of nursery on Tuesdays now), so will be doing the unmentionable word (that Foxie just mentioned ).

Could you all take a look at my profile pictures and give me your opinion.

I (think) my business is going to be called "House of Cake". I have done a quick pencil sketch of an idea for the design and wording (although I think I may change it to "couture cakes for those special occasions" (or something like that (rather than "for the discerning bride" as I want to get clients for other celebrations/events, not just weddings). Any feedback/ideas/suggestions most welcome!

rosmerta · 21/04/2008 22:16

wow, cov, those sketches are really good!

sfxmum · 21/04/2008 22:21

wow cov do you do design as well?
this is well and truly launching isn't it?
maybe you can do a special MN cake for the Christmas party, this year it is bound to be covered in the news

I like the idea of housework and a tidy house but the practice.... well so many distractions and low standards - really must do better
although I think it would be better if I had staff

ComeOVeneer · 21/04/2008 22:29

Thanks! No I've never done design, (the closest I got to was GCSE level art ).

ON a totally different subject. DS's sleep has gone totally up the spot. He wouldn't settle utntil late last night(gone 9pm). Was up before 6.30 this morning, and was cranky all afternoon after nursery, yet he still isn't asleep. He is playing in his room as I type! (seems quite content, but he is going to be knackered tomorrow, and thus even more unreasonable)

Kewcumber · 21/04/2008 22:39

I like "Couture cakes ..." but for those special occasions sounds a little twee and old fashioned - can you add someting more modern/funny. How about a wole para -

"Couture cakes because...
its Friday;
the in-laws are coming;
it's her birthday;
we're leaving;
he passed;
the in-laws aren't coming.

Couture cakes because, well, any excuse you can think of really..."

If you are going to weddings I'd do specific wedding leaflets and just call it "Couture cakes"

ComeOVeneer · 21/04/2008 22:54

Was going to go with "Couture cakes" or "cake couture" but there is one of each in Surrey already!

I know the tag line isn't right but I can't think of the words yet.

ComeOVeneer · 21/04/2008 23:34

Well I have just popped my head into ds's room and he is finally asleep, on the floor with his teddies. He is going to be a right grouch tomorrow. And on that note I must get some sleep in order to cope with him. Night all.

slng · 22/04/2008 08:38

COV - DS2 has taken to singing/chanting for ages before going to sleep as well. It takes about 2 or 3 rounds of "shut up and sleep" before he would. But it doesn't seem to affect him much the next day. The steps I've taken:

  • bunny (or babbish as it is known around here) clock (complete waste of time and money)
  • plenty of warnings before and ignore after putting to bed (seems to make it better)
  • draw all curtains at story time before bed so that he's conned into thinking it's night (I think it works but might be wishful thinking.)
  • "SHUT UP AND SLEEP" (works after a couple of rounds, but I think he simply needs to chatter a bit)
sfxmum · 22/04/2008 09:02

good morning all

COV hope not too much of the cranky this morning, is he off to nursery?
I like couture cakes too, these days people seem to do baby showers too cupcakes and cookies.

with sleep I am yet to leave dd alone to fall asleep, we have moved progressively from falling asleep on the boob, falling asleep on my bed then being moved, these days she jumps into her bed and gets cosy during story, lights out and she falls asleep, usually within 10mins.
all for an easy life.
I expect once she is in her room then we move on to the next stage.

this morning as I was going along the path I heard a man shouting loudly, I thought to his dog, but apparently it was him motivating himself

slng · 22/04/2008 10:38

sfx - people talking to themselves appears to be the norm these days, what with minuscule headphones and things. It's when they flagellate themselves or have a clipboard that you need to cross the road away from them.

ComeOVeneer · 22/04/2008 11:27

Well ds was awake at 6.45am this morning. He is doing his first full day at nursery 9.15 to 3.30 (I have added one extra session for a while so I get a full uniterupted childfree day whilst I get the school fair all sorted - have to make trips to Bookers/COstco etc to get supplies and can't make it in the time slot otherwise). So I expect he will be foul later this afternoon!

I have beenn working on my cupcakes and cookies. Did some delicious lemon teacup and teapot cookies iced a la Cath Kidston style last week.

sfxmum · 22/04/2008 11:37

I seem to be stuck home with a Thomas soundtrack on loop.

the gardeners are chopping down a tree after we noticed and informed them it was dangerously hollow and would probably fall onto the flats in high winds, it is a big tree.
it is very noisy here now

toddler is in PJ's saying she is too poorly to go out, she isn't really but hey maybe brbery of some sort will work

stepfordwife · 22/04/2008 11:40

you're so right, sing, never trust someone with a clipboard

sfx, would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to be able to come and look at the bluebells, but working.

foxie..not not a case of man/boy-flu! little fellas on an inse(c)t day and dh had a day off work which i demanded asked nicely as have got loads of work on. but can see light at the end of the tunnel now.

COV..i like coutre cakes too, shame it's already being used. eh? sure you'll make a success of it.

kew, ds gave me his customary big hug around my legs. (or is he trying to trip me up?)
apparently yesterday he was dressed up as a doctor and "treated" dh

went out with old workmates to some trendy bar in soho last night(sadlly not blown out again..)
well, i am such a drinking amateur these days, it's embarrassing.
stuffed my face with a dodgy cheese pasty (not gunsters..do have some standards) and a bar of chocolate on the way home. classy..
have also got some unaccounted for bruises on my legs.
felt a tad "delicate" when dd woke me up at 6am but have rallied.
didn't know i was such a sophisticate, eh?

think i may have to steer clear of vino on friday..
maybe...
toodlepip

Kewcumber · 22/04/2008 11:57

steppie - my mum had to take him with her to the doctor last week - he was terrified of the stethiscope so bought him a cheap plastic set from woolies which he loves. He now has a bad leg and needs "mess" (medicine) . Glad to hear he fixed your DH though.

stepfordwife · 22/04/2008 12:01

well, it's done the trick, kew
i predict a bright future for the boy in the medical profession
would take a bit more than that to fix dh {grin]
disclaimer: not true, but not one to resist a cheap gag

stepfordwife · 22/04/2008 12:01

..can i have some of his mess for my sore head?

slng · 22/04/2008 12:20

cure for grape-induced soreheads: miso soup! Or very fierce Thai green curry.

stepfordwife · 22/04/2008 12:24

yum..can you come over and make me some then?

sfxmum · 22/04/2008 12:53

we are now watching tikkabilla

best get on with some work then
so so glad I went out this morning

fitfox · 22/04/2008 13:21

"House of cake" is good!

Last appointment this arvo as dental hossie. Looking forward to my nap in the dental chair

slng · 22/04/2008 13:33

Steppy - I can make a very fierce something - I have a whole bag of very scary looking chillies in the fridge and we have been diligently eating them but they seem to be multiplying ... Shall I cook you something and teleport it over then?

Foxie - I suffer from lack of sleep ever since end of university days. Used to sleep in lectures ...

Kewcumber · 22/04/2008 13:47

slng aren't you a lecturer? Doesn't sleeping in lectures cause a wee bit of a problme?

slng · 22/04/2008 13:49

Kew - I don't mind the kids sleeping in my lectures as long as they don't snore or sleeptalk or sleepwalk. After all that may be the only time they get some rest!

Kewcumber · 22/04/2008 13:59

I was thinking of you!
