New thread for new month!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/04/2008 13:59

can anyone suggest how to drag dd out of the house not using bribes?
'oh yes mummy I want to go to the playground' 'ok lets get ready' not now I am busy'

sfxmum · 01/04/2008 14:16

btw has anyone noticed any April Fools stories in the press? I thought the Nick Clegg was it but being a LibDem not so sure

Paddlechick666 · 01/04/2008 14:17

slng, given where I would be buying I could be reasonably sure we would not be living next to a hoodie drug dealer with a rabid pitbull and a nasty gangsta rap habit.

there's some small evidence dd would not be inhaling jet fuel.

also a slightly better chance that she will avoid being knifed in some gang turf war.

maybe.........

slng · 01/04/2008 14:28

Paddle - probably true ... but you are being neighbourhood-specific, or specifically, your-current-flat-specific ...

sfx - check out the flying penguin story in the "in the news" section if you're bored. That one's quite good.

rosmerta · 01/04/2008 14:28

sfx, apparently there's been some digs at Nicholas Sarkozy

Paddlechick666 · 01/04/2008 14:30

sfx, did you not see the flying penquins on the BBC site?

they were brilliant!

Paddlechick666 · 01/04/2008 14:31

slng, forgive my blinkered and narrow minded view but seeing as how this is probably the best area I can afford in London there's really nothing to be done.....

Paddlechick666 · 01/04/2008 14:32

yeah they'er gonna stretch him 5" pmsl!

The Sun had a lovely story about a chain smoking tortoise too.

rosmerta · 01/04/2008 14:33

Have been sucked into Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

oh dear

slng · 01/04/2008 14:41

Paddle - I know. Much sympathy. We also are limited by what we can afford (estate agents laughed out loud when heard our budget) and only by a stroke of luck got house on what seems to be one of the few peaceful streets around the area.

SJ99 · 01/04/2008 14:42

Hello all, phew just about caught up. Paddle, not sure what to suggest but don't rush into anything. You're bound to get better VFM re: housing anywhere outside London, that's a given. You would make friends and DD would settle although it may be tough in the beginning.
In my mind the half way option wouldn't work because then you'd still have to commute to work and also have to commute to GP's = double commute. If you're going to move, would you miss London life more than putting up with/evicting druggies? Sorry, doing a Bunyan and asking more q's now! What difficult position to be in, much sympathies.

Saw story about greyhounds on ice amongst others

Bunyan, hope all goes well in final stretch for you, how exciting!

Steppie LOl at parents evening, hope you survive without DH putting his foot in it

stepfordwife · 01/04/2008 15:34

kew, sorry you and ds are unwell. do you think it was the welsh air?

do you need any supplies? (not talking hard drugs, btw)

sj, sfx..yes, that's the sort of thing dh would say. he also refers to ds2 as "calculating" when he means ds2 sits back and takes everything in before he starts joining in.
i, of course like most sane people interpret calculating as being manipulative.
cue mini-spat in front of embarrassed teacher

no doubt when/if teacher mentions ds1's prize-winning poem (within the school, not national acclaim) dh will say: 'oh..steppie wrote that."

i didn't, btw, just a few takeover bids helpful tips on rhyming and scanning...

sfxmum · 01/04/2008 16:54

oh yes love the stories

Ros did you cry? that and the psychic medium types had me crying and shouting at the telly in my early motherhood days - firmly blaming lack of sleep and sheer shell shock for that one
(and why do they need so many wide screen tellies?)

WE WENT OUT

KC if your mum or you need a break DS can always play with DD's trains

btw she thinks a suitable present for dh's birthday would be a lovely train set, he did not disagree very strongly

steppie LOL if he turns out to be a writer, getting used to editorial control might not be a bad idea, given the drivel some get away with these days

paddle like someone said having a look at real job adverts and real houses might make the options sink in, and you might feel like making a decision

and slng estate agents are evil

rosmerta · 01/04/2008 19:11

I must be quite hard sfx as I didn't cry, I was more sniggering & snorting over American antics & reactions

(sorry to anyone who's american btw, no offence intended)

sfxmum · 01/04/2008 19:47

as I said hormonal jumping up and down screaming not a normal reactions then?

slng · 01/04/2008 19:57

sfx - I don't even mind estate agents being evil. You sort-of expect that. We had to virtually beg to see the house we eventually bought because they couldn't be bothered/not clever enough to arrange for viewings! Estate agents not bothering to sell a house!? I think somebody somewhere is being conned ...

And I think jumping up and down screaming only considered normal in demented toddlers and preschoolers on mattresses ...

sfxmum · 02/04/2008 10:07

good morning all

dd still not used to this hour change and for the past few nights has settled well after 9. she has also been up after 9 but I have no evenings now and that essay needs to be done by Friday I feel an extension coming on, which is really bad for the first
whine over

hope everyone ok today

I think the weatherman is having fun inventing forecasts- heavy snow showers for Sunday? really?

mellow2 · 02/04/2008 11:17

sfx,
Dd is sleeping later than mini-sfx so I do sympathise.

Snow showers for Sunday? I was hoping to have a sunny weekend!

ComeOVeneer · 02/04/2008 14:02

Hi all. Hope everyone is well. I am busy trying to sort out the May Fair arrangements for dd's school. Instead I have been tinkering around with my profile and have figured out how to add pictures

slng · 02/04/2008 14:28

Nice pictures COV!

SushiMummy · 02/04/2008 14:50

Hi all.

Was told DS has bitten twice this week at nursery. Don't think he'd bitten anyone before. Could be post-holiday stress? Really hope this is a phase. Feel like apologising the bitees and their parents.

This promotion has given me so much more work and much less time to MNing.

Hope everyone is OK today.

SJ99 · 02/04/2008 15:21

Oh no Sushi, hopefully it is just a phase and DS will stop doing it soon. Are you liking your new job even though it means more work?

Nice piccies Cov!

Sfx - hope you manage to get your essay done in time, hope DD manages to sleep a bit early tonight

Have been out all morning and have not back long, am knackered now! If anyone needs a pick me up, I just got Marie Claire and there are some lovely shots of George Clooney in there Pity Renee Zellwegger is also in the pics but can't have everything I suppose

mellow2 · 02/04/2008 15:48

Hi sushi,

Dont' worry, I'm sure the biting is just a phase.

Congrats on the promotion but sorry to hear you'll not be on MN as much.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 02/04/2008 16:28

what a grey uninspiring day

sushi like others have said do try not to worry kids do these things. are you off again soon? guess it takes some time to adapt to a new role.

mellow I think I need to get dd up a bit earlier everyday I have tried but she just turns to the other side and goes back to sleep, leaving it for now but could really do with the extra hr in the evening.

SJ enjoy gorgeous George, cute but not my thing I think I would have to be really drunk or very hormonal to blurt that one out

cov lovely pics love the cakes (family cute too)
