New thread for new month!

OP posts:
Lausy · 15/04/2008 16:49

Kewcumber, I'll take a look at your wishlist too if you don't mind, this is something that I will need to be prepared for in the future too.

I enrolled Dayan at the Library yesterday and got a lovely little start-up pack so am looking forward to reading lots more books with him - if he'll ever sit still longer than 5 minutes...!

stepfordwife · 15/04/2008 17:02

hello everyone
work hectic this week, so just dipping in to say hello

kew, sorry sw made you feel inadequate. a few months can make a big difference in a child's speech so think you're right to wait a bit before treating it as a (potential) "problem."
the main thing is ds' comprehension is excellent and he is adding new words to his vocabulary.

dd was quite late in talking and now, as foxie said about her dd, she talks for britain!

sj...fab news about the house. how exciting....

sfx..hope dd has recovered from her bed mishap. how are her playdough skills coming along?

cov..well done for business progress.

escaped my loft today to go out on a job...blimey, talking to real people face-to-face .
was near tott court rd so indulged myself in looking at furniture. saw some really funky bar stools in heals for my (future) kitchen bar in my (future) new kitchen in (future) extension --(haven't even got the buildeers' drwaings yet)...a snip at a mere £268 each
when i told dh, he snorted and said: 'you'd better get working then.."

speaking of which....
toodlepip

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 18:28

went to mothercare to get a bed guard, they did not have any when I went alone at the weekend, so dd walked out a proud owner of an harmonica with which she is driving me bonkers but serves me right I guess

so steppie she is now practising other skills, she is also writing to your dd asked me for pen and paper then I heard her 'dear mini steppie' so much better than her mummy

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 18:33

meant to say

Ros glad you feel more reassured now as I know you were concerned, firm believer in 'all kids are different'

Lau reading is good we have been reading to dd since she was a baby, skipped most baby picture books and went straight to stories, lots by Julia Donaldson, A. Ahlberg, etc she did not always sit of course but the rhymes held her attention with lots of repetition.

SJ99 · 15/04/2008 18:51

Hello all, hope everyone well

DS loves those books too, we have been reading stories with him daily since he was about 1. Prior to that he had about 10 words in his vocab, with the reading his vocab dramatically increased. Ros - glad therapist visit went well and no major problems identified, what a relief

Foxie - have tried 2 lots of toddler swim classes at Teddington, thumbs up to both. Are you thinking of taking DS2?

KC - thought provoking comments from SW, pity she couldn't express herself in a more tactful way so that she didn't make you feel inadequate. On a positive note, the choc cake recipe is a winner, you'll have to come round to sample some

Sushi - have you managed to assemble the tracks yet? I ahve visions of them going through every rm in your house

Cov - great progress with your business. As we'll practically be neighbours soon I can offer up my services as cake tester if required

Went to visit 2nd pre-school today whicle my mum took DS to playgroup which was pretty good, will see one more next wk and then make a decision. The one which is eligible for Govt funding is still my fave, typical. Also made it to play date minus DS (is that cheating?) but at least it meant I could have a cuppa and finish my sentances

SJ99 · 15/04/2008 18:52

oops, meant 'isn't eligible for funding'

Lausy · 15/04/2008 19:32

Thanks SFX, i'll look those authors up on Amazon

Lausy · 15/04/2008 19:33

Kew - that wishlist link took me to my wishlist....

Kewcumber · 15/04/2008 20:12

hmmm, try searcing for sue jones wishlist as I have enabled anyone to read it.

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 20:41

KC being nosy I clicked and am currently reading one of your wish list books so you are welcome to it when I am done

SJ vegan sites are great for eggless cakes dh has pretty much banned me from trying some recipes because I would come up with courgette cake and the like and he thinks that is just WRONG

rosmerta · 15/04/2008 20:46

sfx, courgette cake have to say I'm with your dh on that one!

slng · 15/04/2008 20:49

sfx courgette bread is nice though. I remember having to bake all kinds of things into bread so DS1 would eat them .... Courgette and garlic bread. Yum!

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 20:50

it was very moist not too sweet spiced like carrot cake I love it

SJ99 · 15/04/2008 20:59

I have 2 vegan websites which I'm devoted to and have been using for since DS about 9mths old. Thankfully only 'normal' cakes on there DS birthday cakes have come from those sites

Going to havea nosey at KC wish list now, forgot to do that earlier

rosmerta · 15/04/2008 21:43

Last thing before I go to bed, I'm off to Kew tomorrow am if anyone wants to meet up. Will probably get there 10-10.30 & will head straight to the animals. Don't think I'll be on MN in the morning so if anyone's going then text me

SJ99 · 15/04/2008 21:48

Won't make it but have fun!
BTW does anyone know when the animals disappear? Wanted to try and go at wkend to see them, hope they'll still be around...

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 22:00

Ros - Might make it to Kew but probably not that early unless Tesco man is on time, will let you know.

SJ - Think the animals are there until the Sunday

Kewcumber · 15/04/2008 22:28

I plan to go to Kew to animals Sat morning if you want to meet SJ though I know you DH often has DS then.

Which one SFX?

sfxmum · 15/04/2008 22:32

the book thief

dh working this weekend all weekend

ComeOVeneer · 15/04/2008 23:17

HI all. Had a lovely day at Kew with my parents (and children) what a lovely sunny day. Have just spent the last couple of hours baking cookies - teacups, teapots (lemon flavoured), dresses, handbags and shoes (chocolate flavoured). I will be icing them tomorrow evening, to take to London for a big family teaparty on Thursday. Will find a link in a mo to show you what they will (hopefully) look like.

Am off to Horton park farm (nrear Chessington) tomorrow with some friends if this weather holds. Am looking forward to next Monday when the children are back at school/nursery as the house is in a right state.

ComeOVeneer · 15/04/2008 23:31

Like this, this, and this.

rosmerta · 16/04/2008 09:08

Cov, they look yummy!

sfx, no worries, am going that early so I can take ds just on the reins & not bother with the pushchair. I'm trying to get him used to more walking & behaving near the roads.

sfxmum · 16/04/2008 09:22

good morning all

COV yum yum thinking of excuses to put in order, like tea at the Ritz

Ros whenever dd is let loose near roads is when I can be heard shouting for miles I sound like a sergeant major on the parade ground.
i still hope to go out at some point today, weather permitting

have to go to the embassy tomorrow and last night had nightmares in portuguese this NEVER happens, must calm self down.

dd's new big girl bed arrives on friday so maybe the big change will be this weekend

hope everyone is ok today

SushiMummy · 16/04/2008 09:33

Morning all.

Thanks, QC. I will look at your wish list now.

SushiMummy · 16/04/2008 09:43

OK, I'm new to this wish list thing. If I put QC's name there are 96 hits. Which one are you, QC? [clueless emoticon]
