SJ99 · 29/11/2007 15:37

Happy Birthday to Gherkin!!! Hope you have fab party on Saturday

LOL at mini-pads

DS had been playing quite nicely and eating bits here and there, but unfortunately he seemed to lose power about 13.30, his temp went up again and he's been asleep for about an hr The NHS nurse said the fever would fluctuate. I actually thought he was brill to talk too, I was getting really fed up with the woman who initially answered the phone as she was really unhelpful wish they'd put me through to him straight away

Foxie - I think Steppie's right, I'm sure having a nice male body to watch does wonders for your swimming technique

sfxmum · 29/11/2007 16:15

hello everyone

happy birthday Gherkinsee you Saturday

SJ hope your little one feels better soon.

Here things took a turn for the worst last night and I had a scan today which pretty much confirmed miscarriage, I have to get back in 2wks to make sure all ok.
we are of course a bit sad but ok about it but it's my 4th so you sort of get used to it and somehow it seems slightly easier since I have dd.
we will try again in the new year an no doubt get all excited about it again.

now of to catch up properly and frankly get some rest

fitfox · 29/11/2007 16:17

Sushi - its more of a gentle chug from the District Line/Silverlink. It didn't do me any harm growing up with it!

Happy Birthday Mini QC - special day for special boy

Where is SFX - hope she is OK

Steppy there are lots of men there much fitter than me let's put it that way!!! Mind you, wearing age 35-45 armbands (as opposed to age 6-12 month armbands) doesn't help me much...

Hi everyone else

MrsRecycle · 29/11/2007 16:18

Sorry to hear your news, SFX

stepfordwife · 29/11/2007 17:54

oh sfx, i'm so sorry.
sending you lots of love
give your lovely dd a big kiss and take care of yourself

rosmerta · 29/11/2007 18:41

sfx, I'm so sorry

Sj, that is normal for NHS direct, they take down the details and then pass you on to a nurse. Of course, the nurse then asks for exactly the same details which is a pain when all you want is to get some advice!

Kewcumber · 29/11/2007 19:55

I'm so terribly sorry SFX - how very disappointing for you. Let us know if there's anything we can do.

lemonaid · 29/11/2007 21:40

Really sorry, sfx.

SushiMummy · 30/11/2007 09:18

I am so sorry, sfx.

sfxmum · 30/11/2007 10:01

good morning all

sorry I did not reply but was exhausted yesterday. thanks for sympathy, much appreciated, this is why most people don't tell until they feel 'safe' which frankly, I never do despite always feeling positive. but can't help getting excited when I get a BFP.
I feel fine/ normal, this seems to be very much part of life as most of you know very well from personal experience.
within my family and with DH I always feel like it is a shared experience, both good and bad and it lightens the load iyswim.

I had to laugh yesterday when the sonographer asked me if I was well because 'frankly I am having a bad day' she added

SJ hope your little one is feeling better

SJ99 · 30/11/2007 12:38

Hello all

Life can be cruel sometimes, I'm really sorry it didn't work out for you this time. It's good you have the support of DH, some men wouldn't be so understanding. It's hard but remind yourself that many women who mc go on to have successful pregnancies later on. Take it easy today.

DS temp seems to have subsided but he's still feeling tired, clingy and a bit miserable. I'm hoping he's over the worst now though thanks for asking.

Ros - I didn't mind her taking down the details, it was the ridiculous questions and things she asked me to do & threatening to terminate the call when I refused to do them to do that annoyed me. Any time I asked her a question she kept putting me on hold to check with her supervisor, in the end I just asked to be put through to someone with medical training, needless to say the conversation with the nurse was lot more sensibile. I'm guessing the woman was new or very incompetent

Paddlechick666 · 30/11/2007 12:48

sj, that's a weird experience. the call handler isn't supposed to give any advise afaik. they log the details, ask relevent questions about breathing etc then either put you straight thru or tell you to expect a call back.

oh, just a little update on my moving drama:

I HAVE EXCHANGED TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
SJ99 · 30/11/2007 12:57

Wow, congrats, you're nearly there now!!! Great news

It's reassuring to know all call handlers are not like that, I did think weird at the time not mention immensly frustrating. Main thing was I eventually got the advice I needed

Kewcumber · 30/11/2007 13:06

Oh good paddle - was just about to text you to ask if you've exchanged - how exciting its all on for a new start in 2008 then!

SFX - at sonographer! When I was having interminable IVF and at one point (due to hyperstimulation) was going in for daily blood/ultrasounds, it was only the lovely sonographer at the clinic who kept me sane I think.

Whilst I can understand the desire many people have to keep early pregnancy a secret, I also don't see that it has to be a secret, at least not from people who you think will be sensitive.

sfxmum · 30/11/2007 13:28

that's fantastic paddle

SJ on another life I used to have regular dealings with NHSdirect, great when it works but mostly they just try to cover themselves.

one thing I used to do was just hang up and try again if the initial call handler seemed clueless, more than likely you get someone else. they do sometimes give advice, often quite bad/ over reacting etc. I called them because it was policy but generally I would only put on the report once I got a sensible answer, after all we were more to know what we were dealing with.
it is of course different with parents

KC I was forewarned about her, because there ws a young couple with a little girl ahead of me, the woman was clearly distress and in floods of tears, the sonographer walked out of the consulting room ranting that the computer was broken and she sick and tired of doing her job in those conditions, all the while leaving the door open for all to see private distress

Kewcumber · 30/11/2007 13:39

Hey - just thought - HOUSEWARMING PARTY AT PADDLES!!!!!

Paddlechick666 · 30/11/2007 13:43

bunyanvillas · 30/11/2007 13:58

Paddlechick666 · 30/11/2007 14:35
