good morning everyone

welcome back RosmertaMy in laws are a bit austere but spoil dd rotten I am sure she will have cake and ice cream followed by chocolate at every dessert

slng hi how are you? thanks for cake recipe that may be the only way dh will eat it, I like the soup just don't like the pickled beetroot much

foxie yes thanks slept fine despite dd waking me up singing loudly in her sleep
all together now 'if you happy and you know it...'

KC I do not own a microwave never have, but beetroots might be making their way to you dh might even deliver it personally

dd has now taken to placing soft toys and other assorted items in dh's workbag, apparentley to make him happy when he is away, I think yesterday it was Fifi's turn

Kewcumber · 24/11/2007 10:19
  • how does anyone live wihtout a microwave (KC tried to think back to the 70's...)

Ros - no life - indeed was in fact in bed wwatching QI.

fitfox · 24/11/2007 10:51

Mornin' All

Welcome back Rosemerta

I had some beetroot hummous at my book club on Sunday it was wonderful - DS ate loads too. I think it was from Waitrose.

I don't know how young men survived into adulthood before microwaves existed, judging by the eating habits of our lodgers to date (although the first one lived on doughnuts)

I remember when microwaves were new and everyone thought you could get microwaved by standing to near to them. I still try not to let the kids stand near ours when its on actually.

We are having a declutterimng weekend here. Recon the cleaner can get round more quickly if there is less rap for her to move on her way round. I am also treating mysel to a Henry (a hoover - not a gigolo called Henry in case you were wondering)

I missed Posh on Ugly Betty too - anyone see it? I fell asleep at 9.30pm

sfxmum · 24/11/2007 11:03

foxie I think Ugly Betty repeats on sunday, Posh annoys me but she did a good parody of herself But I just love Wilhelmina my absolute favourite character along with the nephew

KC I also do not own a dishwasher

just got all my hospital info so all seems very real now, well sort of they gave me an appointment for 31/12
must stop dithering an book the early scan before all that to make sure there is an actual embryo growing

stepfordwife · 24/11/2007 11:21

mornng all
how you all diddling?
sfx, dd does the popping things in your bag, too. so far, dh has pulled out a bottle of calpol, a tea cup and in the night garden little book at his lace of work...
and my dd woke up sunging BALAMOOOOOOOOOORY!!!

yep, get that eraly scan booked to give you piece of mind.

foxie, i'm decluttering today too. 9in theory) for same resaons. and also becuase MIL arrives nxt saturday. so my "manhattan-style loft offivce space' will become MIL's bedroom as well as playroom/general dumping ground.
but have just donme some work and am now heading for libray with ds1 to bring back the mountains of books we've acquired.

kew, relax and joy the party after yesterday's palaver

dare say i'll indulge in a cappuccino moment, if i bribe ds1 with a hot chocolate

hello sing

have a fab day, everyone
toodlepip

fitfox · 24/11/2007 19:21

Steppy - did you get much decluttering done?

Rose glad you had a nice time in Aylesbury

rosmerta · 24/11/2007 22:40

How did all the decluttering go? That's one thing to be said for decorating, you have no choice but to clear it all out. I think we threw out about 3 bin bags of rubbish from the living room

So, what's everyone else up to this weekend?

Paddlechick666 · 25/11/2007 09:24

hullo all

seems like ages since i've been here!

conference in manchester went quite well. exhausting tho. may have got a tiddly bit tiddly and told my boss in a roundabout way that he's sexist lol, he seemed to take it quite well tho!

my girls night out was great. went to a really cool bar/restaurant/club in clapham and felt very grown up but and only a little bit old. ended up at the gay pub in richmond till about 1am and in bed by 2:30ish.

the carribean treatment at the spa was absolutely fantastic. 1.5hrs of exfoliating, mud wrapping, head & face massage and then a full body moisturising massage. it was amazing! the most relaxing thing.

spent yesterday arvo at the new flat measuring up. think my gorgeous bed is going to be a bit of a squeeze but i don't care. i love my bed and i'm not getting rid of it! not much needs doing which is a relief.

ordered new carpets as well. £370 to do both bedrooms. got a quote for some great vinyl flooring (the stuff we saw Kew) but it came in at £900 incl fitting for the lounge

quick trip to homebase and have priced up some laminate at about £300 incl underlay which my step-dad is going to fit for me.

so i just need to paint the wardrobe doors and the internal doors and sort out curtains/blinds and it should be lovely.

can't believe i'll be in this time in 2 weeks!! let's just hope VirginMedia don't stuff up the broadband LOL.

happy birthday to littleSJ for today.

hope everyone's well, dd is definatley on the mend. woke up and asked to go back to grandma's house this morning

she was overjoyed to see me yesterday tho - the look on her face was so cute. huge grin and a big hug and a "aaaah mummy".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINI SJ

glad it went well Paddle - that's funny about your boss - was he tipsy too? I found out some very juicy gossip about my boss on Friday

Did you sort your removal van out?

I got little bit of decluttering done yesterday but very hard with 3 kids clambering around telling me not to throw their stuff out

woke this morning with a swollen sore boob and blocked ducts on one side and DH has a swollen infected gum, so we kinda match...

sfxmum · 25/11/2007 11:49

happy birthday to master SJ

paddle glad all went well.

quite tired here trying to convince dh&dd to go out for a while, think will pop to marks for paper and some yummy bread

could do with some de cluttering as well but think will wait for the new year when we finally get dd's room sorted out

hope everyone is well

SushiMummy · 25/11/2007 13:17

Hi all.

Lovely to see you and Gherkin-kun yesterday, QC! Thanks for the tea/coffee. Gherkin-kun is soooo much bigger and he's a clever little chap, isn't he? Hope you had a lovely time at your DB's. Sorry we dumped so much stuff, btw.

Hope everyone is well.

rosmerta · 25/11/2007 13:21

hi everyone

Happy birthday to miniSJ, looking forward to the party!

Hope you're all well

Kewcumber · 25/11/2007 15:45

so much for party boy crashing out at the party...

still racing around at 9pm when we left. Didn't fall asleep in the car - was so tired he had that wide eyed manic stare - think his eyeballs had dried out so he couldn't blink! Went to bed at 10.15pm so didn;t wake up until 8.45 so no nap until 2.30 and so still asleep....

Still he had a fab time, just loved it.

SJ99 · 25/11/2007 19:07

Hello all

Hoep you are enjoying your weekends.

Well here's the recipe, it's pretty easy and delicious! I just realised, I make it to taste so meaurements not exact... will do my best to guess

1 onion
3-4 beetroots diced
green chilli chopped (or red chilli powder to taste)

Heat oil add some mustard seeds, when they start popping turn down heat & fry onion & green chilli (if using) for about 5mins. Add 1tsp curry powder & maybe 1/2tsp red chilli powder if green chilli not used. Fry for a min. Add beetroot, salt to taste & pinch of sugar. Cook with lid on for about 15-20mins til beetroot cooked. Stir occasionally. Add a bit of water to pan if you notice curry sticking. Add a bit of coriander at end for garnish.

Serve with chapatti/naan or rice, yum.

SJ99 · 25/11/2007 19:16

Our weekend was fun, Diwali party was really good, DS seemed to enjoy it too but was ready for bed when we got home. His birthday went really well, thanks for all the greetings We had a lovely walk to Richmond after huge lunch and cake.

The demo tune from his new keyboard is already starting to my head in especially as DS insists on having at full volume

Hope yours & DH's swelling has gone down by now, hope not too painful

Hello Ros! bet you're glad floors all sorted now. Are you having anything else done?

Hello Paddle! - Soudns like you've had an eventful week, spa sounds like bliss.

Slng - will try beetroot cake, am intrigued by it

Glad party went well KC, DS a little party animal eh?

Steppie - haven't seen UB yet, taped from last week and still haven't had chance to watch it yet, maybe tonight, but have lot so of clearing up to do now everyone' gone...

SJ99 · 25/11/2007 19:23

oops! Meant to say
FOXIE -Hope yours & DH's swelling has gone down by now, hope not too painful

slng · 25/11/2007 19:44

Beetroot cake very nice, I promise, but very moist so has to be eaten up quite quickly or will go mouldy (probably - we didn't find out!)

Kewcumber · 25/11/2007 20:15

Paddle was quote for living room really that expensive - I was hoping to get away with £500 for kitchen Is your living room much bigger (she says hopefully)

rosmerta · 25/11/2007 20:33

Paddle, who was that quote from? I've found that local shops tend to be much cheaper than places like Allied Carpets and such.

Sj, glad ds had a good time. Decorating all finished for the time being!

Paddlechick666 · 25/11/2007 20:40

kew, it's 5.31m x 3.25m. price included fitting.....

ros, yes it's a local place. carpet town by matalan in osterley.

i like the laminate i've chosen now and i don't have to spend too much on paint so hoping i can afford to change the awful gold fittings that are on everything.

that's the entire bathroom and every single door handle and knob.

my step-father said "you'll have to choose some knobs" yesterday. i responded with "i think i've already done that a few times!"

OP posts:
fitfox · 25/11/2007 20:43

Paddle have you tried Carpet Right, they have massive range from cheap to expensive and are always good value?

SJ - many thanks. DH's gum and my right boob have both reduced in size slightly but both are still tender. Have been feeling poorly all day

Glad Diwali party went well and that your DS had a grand time

DS1 has been helping DS2 try and walk - holding his hands - very sweet.

DS1 tonight : Can I have a drink?

Me: No its too late now, its bedtime

DS1: I've only had one drink today - you want me to die don't you ?

rosmerta · 25/11/2007 20:43

Ok, I thought they're usually much cheaper! Lol at choosing knobs!

Am trying to work on an essay but not really getting anywhere [sigh]

fitfox · 25/11/2007 20:45

Paddle

Knobs can be tres expensive

Paddlechick666 · 25/11/2007 20:56

foxie, they closed carpet right in MFI at mogden lane.

the laminate is reduced to 13.99 and with underlay and beading we reckon it's about £300 and my step-dad will fit it for me. he's done it before and reckons it'll be dead easy as my living room is all straight walls.

actually, come to think of it, it'll prob look a bit like your beautifully sanded floors when it's done.

kew, the guy said as it's concrete floor it'd have to be screed. not sure if that is a big factor in the cost.

i'm lookin for'ad to perusing a few knobs soon
