erm, not sure if this will work but have started a thread in the interests of currying favour with MNHQ!

OP posts:

Sushi - I know I'm single but it isn;t a man free house yet! Of course he's more than welcome (particularly if he has any single firends who like children and aren't too fussy about women!).

Anyway if it was a man-free zone here - he could always sit in the garden. Tell him to bring an umbrella in case I change my mind before tomorrow....

sfxmum · 23/11/2007 15:04

hello everyone lovely sunny day

dd is really gearing up for Christmas I blame the phone calls from the grandparents asking her what she would like for presents and food

hope everyone ok

stepfordwife · 23/11/2007 17:07

hello everyone
how you all diddling?

kew- no worries! glad you got everything sorted. what a panic. grand to see you and ds, too. dd enjoyed her 'swim" and it's inspired me to make more effort.

foxie- glad ds2 is feeling better. have sent you an email, btw.
ds1 was off school with a hacking cough yesterday - shame as his class went to theatre but thought it wd be a bit unfair on everyone to hear his spluttering throughout!packed him back off to school today, tho.

isn't a lovely feeling when the cleaner's been? mind you, ime, they do make a BIG effort the first time!

sfx dd doesn't undestand about santa yet. thank the lord. when i ask her who it is, she says "grandad!"

better go, can hear ds2 telling dd;"your behaviour is unacceptable." wonder where he heard that from?

can't do this sunday (leaving lunch for yet more friends heading home to australia)or 2nd (MIL over from oz and will be roast dinner-ing, no doubt) for book swap, could probably do the 9th.

but do go ahead without me if earlier dates suit....
bastards

stepfordwife · 23/11/2007 17:18

Kew - i think it's quite liberating to let them stay up late at parties for the odd do (not saying your family parties are odd...)

bet he'll have ball flirting with everyone and dancing. i've got several pictures of ds1 and ds2 whern they were toddlers asleep under tables at parties when they've crashed and burned..

stepfordwife · 23/11/2007 17:18

...none of dd because you don't take photos by the third child...

lemonaid · 23/11/2007 17:21

Phew! I had lost this thread and then couldn't find it again.

We are Not Doing Pink. At least, not if we can help it. Have already bought a little red pinafore dress from eBay, though .

sfx, who do you use as an accountant? I really need one and could do with a recommendation.

Off to check out QC's pics on Facebook...

stepfordwife · 23/11/2007 17:27

lemonaid yes, that's what i said about pink, too.....

sfxmum · 23/11/2007 17:36

lemonaid - oh yes the pink thing somehow they find it 'oh mummy it is so fluffy and lovely I want it in pink' - followed by sound of mum hitting the floor stone cold.

I think DH uses a firm of accountants but I don't think he has a good opinion of them but will ask, he is suspicious by nature and has been cramming on accountancy books.

steppie I don't plan on telling the Santa thing major point contention with dh but I am likely to win this one

lemonaid · 23/11/2007 17:37

Obviously when she gets close to school age peer pressure will come into play and I shall probably give up. But the French parents of girls at DS's nursery have managed to keep them largely non-pink up to the age of three, which is a good start.

Are Barbie/Bratz required?

sfxmum · 23/11/2007 17:38

btw does anyone know what to do with beetroot?
we got some in our veg box, dh suggested I throw it at stupid people

sfxmum · 23/11/2007 17:40

No Bratz and Barbies that I am afraid is non negotiable, dd does not have more than a couple of items of clothing in pink, that pretty much rules out most high street shops

fitfox · 23/11/2007 18:25

sfx generally I think one is supposed to eat it

Seriously - steam, boil or bake (where is CoV when we need her?)

Lemon yes we said we wouldn't do pink either

Hello all, hope everyone is well

Sorry cannot make either 25th (DS 2nd b'day!!!) or 2nd (friends coming down from Leeds)

We went swimming again, DS loves it, I even bought him one of those noodle things as he's been swimming well with that for past few weeks

Have 3 cakes to bake - DH b'day tom, DS on Sun for small family party, and he's having another party on Tues with his mini-pals. Thankfully my ma has offered to bake one of them

As for beetroot, I love beetroot curry, will send you recipe if you're interested

Off to Diwali celebrations tom in Edgeware. we have taken DS to a few weddings/parties, he's coped alright with late nights and loves dancing and is v. sociable, but we tend to get the payback the next day when he's tired and groggy. I don't think we'll stay too late tom as I want him to enjoy his b'day. Hope you and Gherkin enjoy your party tom

sfxmum · 23/11/2007 19:38

SJ that would be great thanks, the suggestion of soup did not go down well with dh although he did ask if tonight's curry had beetroot in it

bookswap I think best for me is the 9th

must settle child and crash with a book if I manage to stay awake

Kewcumber · 23/11/2007 20:27

NO NO NO NO NO!

Do not mess around with beetroot. It is delicious just cooked and eaten in a sandwich with nice strong cheddar and mayo.

Wasiest way to cook beetroot is actually to steam it in a microwave (if that makes snese to you) otehrwise it takes and age to cook - in a microwaev it takes (depending on size of beetroot) about 10 mins.

If you want to borrow a steamer let me know or even drop the beetroort off tomorrow morning and I'll cook it for you while you wait in exchange for one for a sandwich!

slng · 23/11/2007 20:30

I hate beetroot, but had some in my veg box and did this Abel and Cole recipe and it was the easiest and best ever chocolate cake:

BEETROOT CAKE

75 g cocoa
180 g plain flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
250 g castor sugar
250 g cooked beetroot
3 large eggs
200 ml vegetable oil
Vanilla extract

Whizz the beetroot into a purée and add the eggs, and then the oil. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and add the beetroot purée. Bake at 180°C for about 30 minutes.

Yum!

Kewcumber · 23/11/2007 20:42

slng · 23/11/2007 21:11

Oh no. Minority here then. Hate beetroot. Unnatural beast with that funny colour.

Still, if you like beetroot and if you like chocolate you will like the beetroot chocolate cake!

rosmerta · 23/11/2007 22:05

BOO!

I'm back (finally) from deepest darkest Aylesbury! Have to say it wasn't too bad staying with ILs despite tantrums galore from ds. His grandparents spoiled him rotten, really hard to standby and not leap in to wrestle the 4th biscuit of him! His granddad thinks they're starving if they're not eating every second and will dehydrate if they don't carry their water around everywhere! But it was worth it as my floors now look marvellous

Anyway, how's everyone? I have tried to catch up but its far too daunting! The latest I've got is about a book swap (and I also still have borrowed books :

well, managed to miss seeing posh at all, at all on ugly betty due to my frantic channel-hopping between rubbish programmes. was she good?

sfx - hope you had a good sleep. you just feel like you've been drugged those first few months, don't you?
