BTW, Dr Nicoll is the one who does 'natural' cs, if you would like to be put on his CS list.

You have to make the right decision for you, I'm only trying to help you consider your options, not force you one way or another. Hope that's OK.

you're not at all thank you, am afraid my head is just a bit mince at the moment.

Wed was the only slot they had for a section, I had asked the mw to try for Fri and the labour suite (or whoever) said it wither had to be wed 3oth or wed 5th due to the public holiday and Prof M said the 5th was too late (7days after due date)

PinkPussyCat · 25/07/2008 14:41

Hi Klaw, sorry for butting in, what do they mean by 'natural' cs?

Klaw · 25/07/2008 14:45

Prof Fisk's 'natural' CS

OP posts:
PinkPussyCat · 25/07/2008 15:01

Ah yes I do remember this now! Just hadn't heard it called natural cs. It's good in that there is still some element of thoracic sqeeze going on... Great for electives.

dizzydixies · 25/07/2008 15:03

have just tried phoning ante natal who are closed so have been on phone to community midwife who is going to see what she can do - goodness knows what I actually want her to do but at leaast she'd phoning to see if I have any options to postpone

PinkPussyCat · 25/07/2008 15:20

Just had another thought Dizzy....

These people could also save your life.

Klaw · 25/07/2008 15:25

Dizzy, you know how to get me if you want to talk about anything at all.

As you need to be calm and relaxed for labour to commence I'd hazard a guess that it's not that likely atm given your circumstances. You're not likely to want to miss your mum's funeral on Monday, but if you want to avoid a guaranteed CS then you can try to relax at night time, enjoy a soak in the bath, get dh to give you a nice shoulder massage or soothe your tired feet, dim the lights, make sure your are comfortably warm, don't allow yourself to chill, eat and drink regular, pee regular too!

Call me anytime you want, if you want.

am now changed back to Dr Nicoll care and can choose to have a section either on 31st or 5th Aug - its my decision esp in recent circumstances and they're all being absolutely fantastic about it

thank you

Klaw · 25/07/2008 16:03

YAYYYYY!!!!! You've retained some control over the situation. You're aware that you grow big babies and hopefully you can stay in control if Spontaneous labour makes no progress, or have a calm CS if you haven't gone into labour yourself before then.

If anything gives you cause for concern then you will contact HCPs for advice, and you've got MN as well for the voice of reason.

did you make a Birth Plan? This link is good for suggesting things you may like/dislike in most eventualities.

VBAC

Stay strong Dizzy, you will make the right choices for you.

film was great xx

minipinkscottish · 26/07/2008 08:49

I had a fab night - Abbie fed most of last evening and went down around 10pm. She didn't get up till 3.30am and then slept again till 7.30am Hope it lasts xx

Klaw · 26/07/2008 14:33

Well done Abbie! It's so much easier to bear when you can get a late night feed in, then a mid feed before a reasonable breakfast time feed, isn't it?. It's still not long between feeds but it seems that you're only getting up once

Dizzy - sending you a hug honey xxxxx

minipinkscottish · 29/07/2008 15:26

Abbie put on another 12.5 oz this week making her 8lb 7 and a half oz

Klaw - blood loss after pg - mine was very heavy this time and although Abbie will be 7 weeks on Friday I am still getting brown discharge and the odd smear of red blood - doc says all is well but I'm beginning to think it will never stop Got post natal tomorrow too - yuch !! I stopped bleeding after no more than 4 weeks with the other 5 - any suggestions??

PinkPussyCat · 29/07/2008 15:51

Good girl Abbie!

Re the lochia - the length of time you bleed for can be very variable - I was 6 weeks postnatal before mine finally stopped, worse luck. As long as they have ruled out infection (ie you don't have a fever/flu symptoms, abdominal pain, unpleasant smelling discharge) then it should just take care of itself. Talk it through at your postnatal check anyway + see what the doc says. And IIRC they don't do anything 'invasive' to you at the 6 week check these days as long as all has been well. They will ask if you've had sex though, to which you can guffaw loudly

Klaw · 29/07/2008 18:28

Minipink, PPC is better qualified than I to advise but I would say much like she's suggested. At 6 weeks, I was querying my continued bloodloss and it turns out I had infection and haematoma on my episiotemy.

So I'd suggest you be sure you don't have any infection, and if not continue to listen to your instincts if it still does not clear, and get rechecked.

I imagine that it might all clear very soon, but with 6 children now you've probably not had much of a chance to recuperate yourself. Hence the continued bleed... it could be your body's way of saying "please take it easy"

OP posts:
PinkPussyCat · 29/07/2008 19:56

Klaw Poor you - that's rotten luck.

I also meant to say that the placental site is essentially a wound site, and your uterus will have further to 'shrink' down (making that wound smaller) with each pregnancy. Your body has done this 6 times now, it's a remarkable thing! And totally agree with Klaw as regards trusting your instincts/taking it easy where possible.

Hope it goes soon though!

minipinkscottish · 29/07/2008 20:33

PPC - thanks so much for advice. I did have swabs taken and was given antibiotics although doc said I didn't have an infection as such just a much greater number of normal bugs found in vagina. I feel well and although I was suffering badly from night sweats these are also settling - hormones maybe??
Klaw - thanks also for advice - what an awful time you had
We do need to meet up soon - Tayside Tots is a very quiet forum and I'm not too sure of the set up...what do you think?

Klaw · 30/07/2008 13:55

Minipink it would be great to meet. Would you prefer a general group meet or would a smaller one on one be preferable? And so to the question of where, Cairnie?

PPC do you want to meet up again soon? We can ask Dingdong too.... I think Dizzy will be out of action for a little while. Have texted her that I'm thinking of her.

As for my suffering... it wasn't so bad, I was high from VBAC so didn't really care. It was only later that I got more angry about the forceps, checked my notes and realised I was possibly the 'victim' of time constraints, perhaps I didn't really need forceps... will never know for sure but am kicking myself now for not considering instrumental delivery more fully when deciding my Birth Preferences. Then I might have been able to make an informed choice... Would love a second opinion on my CTG, cos then I might know if dd really did need to be born. Wish I'd had a doula to support me...

Ach well, you live and learn, eh?

OP posts:
minipinkscottish · 30/07/2008 16:29

Klaw - meeting up as a group would be great but so would one on one so don't mind at all. Cairnie would be lovely if weather holds. Not available next week as it is Muchty Festival but after that is fine xx

Had post natal today - really just a question and answer session to fill in a ticky box thing on computer - very new and different and I could have said anything - ah well it's progress

dizzydixies · 30/07/2008 19:38

all as ok in the dixie household as it can be - have given up trying to get anything else done and phoned in some cleaners to arrive tomorrow afternoon and deep clean the kitchen/dining room/downstairs loo and bathroom - dh and I been trying to kill ourselves doing everything else and frankly I've had it - wiped, pooped, buggered and generally fecked - thank you for link PPC hugely appreciated

girls have both decided to try my patience today too - HOW DO THEY KNOW?!?!?!?!?!?! wee sods angels

had check up yesterday, bp fine (amazingly) and had bloods taken and given meds to take tonight in preperation for tomorrow morning

I'd hoped to have gone as been having really strong braxtons/niggles and a slight show but nope, nada, ziltch

anyway, have lovely consultant who will do more 'natural' C/S for me and had lovely birth plan to give him (was really proud of it too) but dd2 has just handed it to me all scribbled on/ripped and coloured in blue - think I may have to reprint it lol

hoping everyone is keeping well -
have also just given dh a tutorial on how to post tomorrow when things are all done and dusted but you may have to look at due Aug antenatal thread to see it

dizzydixies · 30/07/2008 19:39
