When Two Become One - Dundee and Angus Local CHAT THREAD

TeaAndTunnocks · 23/03/2013 11:45

The merging of the sites seems to have done funny stuff to active convos on here, so here is a new chat thread for all Mnetters in Dundee and Angus.

How are you all doing? If you don't know me yet, I am the Local Editor of the Dundee Angus site, and will be working hard to get the site filled with great places to visit, tips for classes and shopping, and lots of wine or coffee fueled meetups.

I have just been moving house this past week, which is why it has been very quiet on here, but am hoping to be back up to speed next week.

Soooooooooooooooo, how is the weather where you are? I am in Dundee and it is snowing but not lying. Can you believe it? Where is our Spring gone?

:) Honest! I love being nosey too. But I'd rather not link my potential homes on a forum, and risk someone else offering first!

Went to see the bid for City of Culture 2017 sent off today, they read a lovely poem, which I will cut and paste. And we (toddler and I) may be on BBC news or in The Courier, just photo/video, so keep an eye out! He has blond curly hair and was wearing a red body warmer! :)

Dundee Dreaming
by Digital Makar, W.N.Herbert, 30th September 2013

Let culture inscribe on its banners
we hold these desires to be Deep Sea Dundonian:

that a giant organ be built into the banks of the Tay
to play shanties when the waves crash into it
that life-size whale sculptures should appear on the sandbanks
as the tide goes out
that folk in huge inflatable footballs should race across the river

that the Fifie be brought back like the mammoth from extinction
that the City Arcade be reopened beneath the Caird Hall

that a racing circuit for formula one grand prix
should run through the city centre streets and up the Kingsway
that sculptures of Oor Wullie's bucket be placed all over the toon
for fowk to sit doon
that Clarky's Bakery should open 25 hours a day

that the Royal Arch be rebuilt
the Overgate restored

that a cable car should go from the city centre up the Law
that the Law Hill be given over to unicorns for grazing in perpetuity
that the Law should be reinstated as a volcano
that the railway tunnel through the Law Hill should contain
one million lightbulbs for James Bowman Lindsay that the spire on the top of the old Chamber of Commerce be completed
that the cobbles in Strawberry Bank be replaced by actual strawberries

that the holy stumps of the fallen rail bridge be illuminated
that something should be done about the wheelie bins on Peddie Street
that all the city's lights be turned off so the people may lie on their backs
strumming luminous ukuleles and watching the heavens
that the rings of Saturn rise and halo the Mills Observatory

Hello, I'm from Broughty Ferry, I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant and fairly new to MN :)

LEDundeeAngus · 01/10/2013 17:35

ooooh, you are FAMOUS, Lentil.

Love the poem. I am crossing all fingers and toes for the bid.

Hello Chickenlicken. Welcome to Mumsnet! I hope you are finding it enjoyable (stay away from AIBU till you find your feet!)

Sorry that I haven't been about much recently. I am madly busy at the moment. Just book train tickets to London with the kids - we have friends there who we haven't seen for ages, and they are going to be delighted to hear we are off to see them.

Spent ages going between train and flying down, but went for train cause I thought it would be quite relaxing.

LentilAsAnything · 01/10/2013 20:29

Welcome, 999, and congratulations on the pregnancy.

You can't really spot me though, can you, LED?

Yeah, isn't the poem lovely!

Have a wonderful time in London. I'd like to go down soon, I love it and miss it.

Hamnvik · 01/10/2013 20:50

Hello, hope I'm in the right place! I have just moved back to Dundee after 8 years away and I don't know anyone anyone anymore! If I bring Cake can I hang out here?

LEDundeeAngus · 02/10/2013 12:06

Ham
That is exactly what you need to gain access to this exclusive group.

How are you finding it so far?

LentilAsAnything · 02/10/2013 17:53

Hi, Hamnvik, and welcome! Where have you come back from?

Hamnvik · 03/10/2013 12:14

We were living down south for a while and then Edinburgh for the last 5 years, have come back to be nearer my parents while DS is little. Just about settled in, still haven't finished unpacking though!
Hello chicken, Congrats on the pregnancy how are you feeling?
Where abouts in London are you going LED? I love London, especially the tube!

LEDundeeAngus · 03/10/2013 17:26

We will be staying with friends out in Reigate but doing all the touristy things in the city. The kids haven't been before and are madly excited.

Your parents must be happy to have you back, Ham.

LentilAsAnything · 03/10/2013 20:53

I am from down south.

How old is your DS? Mine is three next week.

Hamnvik · 06/10/2013 19:51

Where are you from Lentil? We lived in Guildford as my DH is from there.
My DS is 6 months, he is my parents first Grandchild so they are very happy to have him around, in fact I have trouble getting them to go home!

LentilAsAnything · 06/10/2013 21:35

I'm from Surrey too!

LentilAsAnything · 14/10/2013 17:53

Where is everyone!

FaerieT · 21/10/2013 12:00

I'm here! Kind of!

LEDundeeAngus · 21/10/2013 12:40

Hello! Am back from holiday. How is everyone doing?

We had a week in Germany and a week in London and I am exhausted!

LentilAsAnything · 21/10/2013 14:55

Hey, Faerie.

Welcome back, LED. Hope you had a wonderful time.

LEDundeeAngus · 22/10/2013 09:46

We did, Lentil. Our trip to London really was fantastic. There is so much to do there, and lots of it costs nothing!

LentilAsAnything · 22/10/2013 17:48

Yeah, I absolutely love London. Glad you had a great time.

LEDundeeAngus · 23/10/2013 13:23

The funniest thing - the DC might be in an ad for Austria. They pressed a button in the street and this happened!

Errolite · 29/10/2013 12:17

Following fb instructions! Helllooooooooo!

LEDundeeAngus · 29/10/2013 12:21

Helloooo.

Did you like the bear? He made me laugh.

Or do you reckon it is a mamabear? I thought about captioning it 'AIBU to think some of you feckers should come and speak to me' :)

How's things, Errol? Are you out and about in this gorgeous weather today?
