Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

Hello!

Toad-in-the-hole for tea.

Our telly is 16 years old, and tiny. That was commented on by DS1's friend. "Why have you got such a small telly?" Xmas Hmm

sfxmum · 05/12/2011 17:26

to be fair we have had it for 15yrs or so but it was 2nd hand already

anyhow toad in the hole yum yum I am making pasta for dd and stir fry with prawns for me, dh can sort himself out when he gets hereGrin very late

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/12/2011 17:31

Also bought fresh prawns at the co-op - never go in a supermarket hungry. DS1's packed lunch tomorrow, I suppose. It also turned out DS2 had sausages in school. I wish he'd go on packed lunch so we can plan properly. DS1 and me had sushi for packed lunch. Much healthier.

sfxmum · 05/12/2011 17:53

Dd told me she had sticky BBQ chicken she is not always very forthcoming with such info but I have the menu Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/12/2011 18:29

Was also slightly shocked at how much DS1 ate. And he's not even a teenager yet. May need bigger fridge.

Kora · 05/12/2011 21:08

Toad in the hole! Fabulous. This evening DH and I had old-school south american "recipe", big juicy rib eye steaks with not much else. Yum.

Sfx - singing lessons sound great! Go for it.

Tilly - love the new name.

KewC - happy belated birthday to DS! Well done on party organising

Oh, and survived reunion. Was really nice to see old pals and relax a bit. Latish night (midnight, respectable) but aggrieved by early morning - fancied a lie-in but everyone else said they woke up naturally at 8:30am! Humbug. Ah well, still was great.

Bit worried this evening as DD1 seems to be repeating first words quite often or getting stuck, usually in middle of conversations. Been told this can be normal part of growing up, but she was really fluent until recently. Could it be joining school etc? I do wonder whether she gets heard at all in such a big class. She tells me she's happy though. My gut feel is to not to make a big deal, but keep a close eye. Just wierd it's suddenly appeared... Xmas Hmm

tillyferTINSELpants · 05/12/2011 22:52

Kora, ds1 does that, I think he gets so eager to get everything out that his mouth can't keep up with his brain so he starts to sound like a broken record!! I'm sure its nothing to worry about, just keep an eye on it

Boys not keen on toad in the hole, however they do like sausage & mash in a giant yorkshire pudding Hmm not sure I see the difference but hey ho

sfxmum · 05/12/2011 23:16

Tilly they are little picky monsters Grin dd has similar weirdness

Kora think Tilly is right info overload needs time to process that is what holidays are for. I think at school they have a chance to talk as it is more structured they usually have carpet circle time everyday and everyone takes turns to share something

Need bed and need to run
I seem to have hurt my neck/shoulder and it hurts all the way toy eyeSadbugger

sfxmum · 05/12/2011 23:17

All the way to my eye no toys involvedHmm

sfxmum · 06/12/2011 11:43

Furious at incident at school and not quite sure how to proceed.
remember last year I had an issue with a classmate of dd's who just went to far and would hurt dd? well this year things have been much calmer and only minor things occurred, until today.
Not quite sure how to handle it because dd likes playing with her when she is being 'normal' but I know her behaviours will only escalate and become more serious. I feel like manoeuvring away and discouraging the friendship but unfortunately she is the one dd likes playing with the most with at the moment, despite the frequent overstepping of the line.

today's incident could have had very bad consequences. the parents will be informed and sanctions applied, for all the good that will do Angry

anyway off my chest now sorry

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/12/2011 14:28

sfx - Sad What does DD say about this friendship? We had a kind of strange friendship for a short while with one of DS1's best friend - but nothing that escalated to more than a grazed lip Hmm. But luckily it turned out to be just a phase.

Been to town. Bought black cotton sewing thread, a metronome, lunch and a haircut. Central london nice and quiet this time of the day. Xmas Smile

sfxmum · 06/12/2011 16:22

interesting cache copper Smile

about dd what worries me the most is the obsessive possessiveness of it all, my opinion is different from dh on this matter, he thinks dd has difficulty making friends let's not rock it too much and stress the positivesHmm

well up to a point I guess but ignoring the glaring problems might not be advisable either

Kora · 06/12/2011 21:29

Poor dd sfx, I think you're right to keep an eye on things. Seems to me there doesn't need to be malice for a friendship to be negative. I've seen my DD1 with different close friends (having gone through different childcare phases) and all have their ups and downs but some of her friends just give her more room to be herself, while others could be having fun but if she gives an inch they take a mile and can become quite stifling. To be honest I'm probably less proactive about repeating the playdate when that happens, but it can be tricky! Hope it gets better now the line is drawn more firmly, maybe the friend needed a wake-up call...

Thanks for the advice re DD1's speech. She seems so happy going in and out of school, I agree it must be a developmental thing rather than stress etc. I've googled a bit and apparently there's a common thing called "relaxed repetition" - speech just catching up with their new flurry of ideas. Yet another thing to learn in the parenting lexicon. I'll keep an eye but hopefully holidays will help. Wouldn't mind a bit of a break soon myself! Xmas Smile

BTW, saw Xmen first class. That Michael Fassbender is a very talented actor. Xmas Grin

sfxmum · 06/12/2011 21:39

Kora definitely that was actually discussing it with dh last night as we recall dd doing similar.
and yes Fassbender (Fassy) is very tasty naughty boy Grin
I have watched almost everything he has ever done including the dire Hex

dd is fine thanks I just get really annoyed, she holds her own ok, the parents called to apologise and she also spoke to dd, dd told her not to apologise again and just to stop being an idiot, then planned tomorrows play Hmm

anyway dd feeding me chocolate, I fear his intentions are not pure

sfxmum · 06/12/2011 21:40

not dd DH I do not doubt the angelic child's intentions

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/12/2011 07:32

Good morning!

So dark outside. Is it really morning? Eggs for breakfast. Now what?

sfxmum · 07/12/2011 08:19

Getting really wintry now Smile eggs sound good I lazily had coffee and muffin I baked last night

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/12/2011 14:38

Freezing. Must think about packing now.

sfxmum · 07/12/2011 14:55

when are you leaving? I have been to visit my aunt and get a few supplies for baking tomorrow for the Christmas fair.
must pick up dd and take her to pool via cafe, coming to warm home and try to head out again to catch a bus would just not work

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/12/2011 14:57

Friday sfx. We are also going to hang out in the local cafe while waiting for DS1 to come out from after school club. They are over generous at that cafe. A small glass of milk = nearly a pint!

sfxmum · 07/12/2011 18:30

plenty of time to pack then Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/12/2011 19:37

Yes. Grin I've got a list.

sfxmum · 07/12/2011 20:28

nothing can stop you know

Kora if you ate around I emailed you

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/12/2011 21:52

Reminded by your post on FB sfx: (But have I posted this before? Maybe. Probably. But after a glass of Wine I'll happily post it again Grin)

We (me and DSs) had a discussion about boys and girls and what they play with the other day. We concluded that they play the same games, with different toys. For example, they play with their soft toys, like girls play with dolls, making the toys act out characters etc. But we were flummoxed by Barbie and combing Barbie's hair. That, they said, is definitely a girl's game. Is there an answer to that? Hmm

sfxmum · 07/12/2011 22:18

dd says she likes doing the hair on dolls but I have never seen evidence of that, she said she wanted one of those head to style, I have conveniently forgotten about it twice Hmm I generally have to bribe her to get anywhere near her hair

I have eaten a fair amount of junk all week and done no exercise, I feel it, not sure if I will be able to go out for a run before Saturday
