Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

"I really like the wind-up bird chronicle" - if I had any idea what you were talking about, I feel sure I would agree.

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/01/2012 20:15

It's a book, darling.

Has anyone got a good chocolate fridge cake recipe?

vbus · 11/01/2012 13:38

Copper - I think I have great Nigella one, if you still need it I can dig it out later. Happy baking Grin

Camb79 - Hello and welcome! I'm in Teddington with 2 boys (3&6). Can definitely recommend Kew Gardens all year round. Heaps of playgroups/activities here, parks and cafes as you've already noticed depends what you're into. I also like going to library. Are you moving far?

Never got into Murakami, would you recommend?

Have book club tonight, thankfully just finished reading book in time. Watched 500 days of Summer last night and really enjoyed it. DS1 started a new course in Richmond to help with his motor skills yesterday, it was brilliant. They worked really hard for an hr and he thoroughly enjoyed it, let's hope the rest of course is as successful

vbus - I'm planning to go with this. Does it look likely?

sfxmum · 11/01/2012 18:03

Stop it with the cakes people! I went to see my aunt today, completely forgot that they would have Cake to celebrate Kings Day (6th), of course I could not refuse a slice or two with coffee

Vbus I would recommend him, hard to describe his style, I like the way he uses words, very descriptive, fantasy story rooted in reality things of the mind, I don't know maybe someone else would explain better

good about ds, I sometimes worry that dd is not particularly dexterous, but she is quite distracted too so that doesn't help when she is supposed to be catching a ball Grin

vbus · 11/01/2012 19:43

Copper - recipe looks fine but not sure about addition of turkish delight Hmm I would use the mars bar personally! Haven't made Nigella one for ages but it is pretty sumptious, if you need it will get it tom as heading out soon

Sfx - CAKE, CAKE, CAKE
Grin
sorry couldn't resist!

Glad you enjoyed celebrations. So which book is a good one to start with?
Course was good as gave ideas how to strengthen his core muscle group. DS1 is quite dexterous at some things but has hypermobility so not able to perform certain tasks with ease. He's already massively improved since reception but have to keep on with daily exercises to benefit his physical development

if I make up my own mocha recipe for cupcakes what buttercream do you think - choclate, coffee or vanilla? Am tempted to make cupcakes for PTA meeting using my new mixer - next step will be joining the WI.

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/01/2012 20:33

CAKE!!!

Grin

Kew - no advice for buttercream. Like plain cakes. What new mixer have you got?

vbus - not going to add turkish delight. Cake has to be gluten-free, so the less messing the safer. Murakami books - I started with Norwegian Wood, which I still like. Also south of the border west of the sun, and various other weirder ones. But wind-up bird chronicle is my favourite. Have read it several times. Though still not quite sure what it is all about... Tempted to read it again now that I've been reminded of it.

sfxmum · 11/01/2012 20:35

KewC would that be the PTA meeting on Friday? aaarrrrgggghhh CAKE oh my lardy arse!

Kewcumber · 11/01/2012 20:36

Got a Kmix (poor mans kitchenaid) as joint Xmas and birthday present.

sfxmum · 11/01/2012 20:36

never read the Bird Chronicle but have the other two, Norwegian Wood is a good start I think

vbus · 11/01/2012 23:19

I love making cakes in mixer, makes life so easy peasy! I like eating uniced cakes too, but love icing cakes for others

thanks for book recommendation will hunt it out and add to my ever growing pile on bedside table. I do somehow manage to read book club books, nothing like having a deadline hanging over your head. We have Julian Barnes next to read. It was fun tonight, I even drank some English Wine

think it will have to be a lemon drizzle cake as I don't have all the ingredients for cupcakes

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/01/2012 14:53

I thought cupcakes = any cake baked in little paper cups? Have certainly done lemon drizzle cake in little cups for packed lunches. Have also now baked chocolate cake in 32 little cups. Or are they not proper cupcakes!?

Kewcumber · 12/01/2012 14:58

no paper cups!

Kewcumber · 12/01/2012 14:59

and needs butter for frosting also don't have.

Correction have 2 paper cups.

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/01/2012 15:07

I see! That's cupcakes out of the window then!

sfxmum · 12/01/2012 15:16

somehow I don't think anyone is going to mind and refuse cake

sfxmum · 12/01/2012 15:17

Vbus I love Julian Barnes, last one I read was Arthur & George lovely lovely book

vbus · 12/01/2012 15:27

Sfx - just realised I can't make next book club as DH got a work do that night Sad Will still read book though as he's another one I've been meaning to read

kew - I'm sure lemon drizzle will go down a treat, yum

DS1 on playdate so will make some lemon and almond cookies with DS2. All in a bid to get DS1 on nuts in small quantities! Oh and to have some activity for DS2 which doesn't involve leaving the house

So, books and cake are the first two things I'm finding out about other mothers in the Richmond area. Can't wait to get there now.

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/01/2012 11:42

Cakes and books. What more can you want? Smile

Laundry to hang. Now that's boring.

sfxmum · 13/01/2012 14:37

I am utterly bore and non productive today, from PTA to study and nothing else bored bored bored, not even sure any of the reading material entered my skull. and sort of irritable too

and deep breaths Grin as you were

sfxmum · 13/01/2012 14:37

yes I am a bore and I am bored too boredom squared

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/01/2012 17:58

Me too. I've made one choc fridge cake, pastry & filling for pork pies, one batch of gluten-free cookies, and very nice prawns for lunch earlier. And I'm still bored. Especially bored of DSs winding each other up. Chucked their pencil which DS2 used to poke at DS1 and had to put up with 20 minutes of moaning from both parties. Boring.

I've had enough of cakes. I'm going to try my book next. And Wine.
