ooh the excitement of starting a new thread Grin

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 08/08/2011 14:47

tilly - still on for HP! Drinks/curry beforehand sounds just the thing.

Contemplating whether to get preemptive worms medication because kids have been in contact with child with worms... Headlice, worms, fungus, bacteria, virus. Whatever next. Lions? Grubby kids.

sfxmum · 08/08/2011 17:13

hello the film was lovely but somehow the fact that it was in Japanese and subtitled escaped meBlush in my defence it said for children 4 and over, still dd managed to keep up, and found a lot of it sad enough to sob on my lap.
bless the poor monkey, afterwards she said it was quite beautiful

sfxmum · 08/08/2011 17:16

islanfhaze yeah to hairdresser, a little bit of pampering is always welcome

copper maybe just wait and see, they might not get it

tilly shame the weather spoiled it, we got caught in quite in heavy rain yesterday but luckily there were plenty of big trees around to shelter

islandhaze · 08/08/2011 20:47

Sfxmum i am literally counting hours :D
And i think kids have talent to understand any movie in any language :)
We went for a walk, and bumped into some summer drama school . So now DD1 is occupied for a week. Very happy!

Have a pleasant evening !

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/08/2011 21:44

Credit card feeling very unloved. Should I buy Hi Tec hiking shoes or New Balance hiking shoes or splash out on North face? I just want something that is waterproof. Sick of getting wet feet. Also probably easier to run away in those when the riots come here ...

Kora · 08/08/2011 21:59

Wave to Islandhaze! Welcome! I've got two DD's, one 4 one 1. Sorry didn't make it to Fri meet-up but had head buried in paperwork at desk. Hope to see you some other time soon.

Blimey, lots of beach stuff going on. Including oz! Oz! Envy Ah well, I did get to go in June, seems ages ago but mustn't grumble etc. Grin

Sfx - Smile at new foal, sounds amazing. Once your DD reaches 10, you might want to check out Rambert ballet classes. I went as a kid, which was great as still ballet technique but much more "out there" - explains a lot really, I blame (thank) my mum. Based in Chiswick, might be worth a look: www.rambert.org.uk/learning_participation/youth_classes. Before then, there is a place in Raleigh Road does modern dance but don't know how good it is etc. What was Japanese movie, sounds great?

KewC - thanks for plimsolls tip! DD1 tried on some plimsolls today and announced they were really uncomfortable. Then I remembered mine were really uncomfortable as a kid, so maybe I will fork out for trainers at some point. Leaving shoes as last purchase. I've got everything else for uniform - have "sewing fatigue" from all the name tapes, but fed up with curly iron-ons. I've decided I'll just get half-name tapes for younger sister and sew her first name over DD1, can't face unstitching etc... Grin

Copper - I'm a sucker for a sale, get the north face (ignore me).

Big wedding do on Friday. As hardly ever get out these days, hoping will not inebriated and under the table by 6pm... Blush

Kora · 08/08/2011 22:00

that should be hoping will not "be" inebriated. I promise I'm just drinking a decaff coffee right now. Sadly.

sfxmum · 08/08/2011 22:08

Kora film
really lovely and there is a dubbed version with good actors but for some reason the cinema put the original on

  • drink and be merry that is my advice, if you go under at 6 you will probably be ok for the second round by 10pm Grin
thanks for dancing tips, I do not like the idea of ballet at all but she seems keen.

copper North Face are usually top quality and Hi Tech good value, generally speaking

I need new running shoes but will hang on to the current ones a little longer, they are expensive but the best for my gait

sfxmum · 08/08/2011 22:09

islandhaze there was a very nice drama programme running this week based on Peter Pan and I dearly wished dd to do it but she flat out refused Hmm

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/08/2011 22:24

North face by popular vote? Will sleep on it.

We are going to concentrate on practising existing musical instruments this holiday. Grin But might do tennis - going to have a look tomorrow.

Will it be safe to go to Kingston tomorrow? Will there be riots in Brentford and Kew?

sfxmum · 08/08/2011 22:28

Probably safe copperGrin if you mean fro looting
but I would not go as far as Clapham or beyond Willesden Junction
but seriously all will be well Prime Minister and Mayor returning to steer this ship to safety

islandhaze · 08/08/2011 22:30

Sfxmum thats the one she is in :) They will perform on Friday. Im so curious, because dd has never done thing like that before.

My hairderesser is in Putney...i hope its going to be all safe to go thereHmm
Thinking about my quiet home in Copenhagen...:(

sfxmum · 08/08/2011 22:31

extra selection on hiking shoes copper, some discounted on sale

odetothewestwing · 09/08/2011 07:32

Copper, North Face. Tilly - no, not in London, had hoped to try for the Fri Kew meet-up but as it was ended up being in London the previous weekend 2 days in a row for various dos and the Fri just wasn't going to work. Can't wait to see what Dave C has to say today when he finally shows his face .... it will be too little, too late I expect.

sfxmum · 09/08/2011 08:08

Hello went to bed late last night following events and talking to friend living near some bad parts. It is horrible dh will be working from home but is joining a volunteer group to clean up after the looting in Ealing. It is horrifying.

UptoapointLordCopper · 09/08/2011 08:24

Heard helicopter last night but otherwise all quiet. Will venture out later.

Ordered shoes. Should have just gone to loot. Sportsdirect in Greenford won't know if they've been looted, the mess they are in normally. It's a very special shop - you go there when you get too big for your boots (sometimes literally) to be brought down a notch or two and reminded that you are an insignificant speck in this vast universe that we inhabit.

sfxmum · 09/08/2011 11:00

dh saying that it is not total destruction in Ealing, there are a lot of broken windows and general vandalising, it seems bling and electronic shops are the main one actually looted, and weirdly a specsavers Hmm

UptoapointLordCopper · 09/08/2011 21:48

Been to Kingston via brentford, Kew and Richmond. No signs of rioting. Ealing shops shuttered though.

Have just read The Shanghai Union of Industrial Mystics. A good read but very odd book. Now to read "How to break a dragon's heart". Pretty exciting so far. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 09/08/2011 21:50

Needless to say, Amis' Yellow Dog from library (the only Amis, M, there. Shocking library) sitting on my shelf yet untouched. Hmm

tillyfernackerpants · 09/08/2011 22:54

Westwing, oh ok, shame we couldn't meet up with you anyway!

V quiet here today, some sirens but no more than usual. Was on Twitter last night & so many rumours flying around about riots in Hounslow, until someone got on their bike, cycled around & came back to report it was all quiet Grin

sfxmum · 09/08/2011 22:58

some twitter stuff seems unseemly, bordering on excitement by proxy
some said there were a couple of broken shop windows in Richmond, actually does not seem so

very glad so far things seem ok

tillyfernackerpants · 09/08/2011 23:00

Seems like its a lot quieter in London tonight at least, some of the Hounslow tweets did seem to be wanting to spark off trouble

Apparently a sign in Waterstones Ealing today: "We are staying open and if they steal our books they might learn something"

sfxmum · 09/08/2011 23:03

problem is they would have to be able to read for that one to work
having said that, some of the details of those arrested and taken to court don't really fit with rudderless angry youth profile. I supposes immoral greed knows no class, who knew?

sfxmum · 09/08/2011 23:10

Watching Newsnight is raising my blood pressure, please with all that has been going on why put Michael Gove on telly? it is cruel and unusual

was quite cheered earlier watching Nick Clegg being booed

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/08/2011 11:38

Good morning!

Played chess with DS2 this morning and was shocked by him doing a credible Queen's pawn opening. Luckily he reverted back to type after a few moves. It's reassuring.

sfx - the existence of Michael Gove is in itself cruel and unusual.
