Agree microwave is really handy for defrosting and some re-heating stuff. I remember my mum buying one in the 80s and there were loads of recipes for making rice etc which seemed to make no sense as it only takes a few mins steaming normally. Actually, copper puddings might be the key - we do use it for crimble pudding...

Hurrah on school stuff sfx, sounds like it was definitely worth speaking to teacher to get a bit more attention and sounds like DD is doing great. I think there are bound to be times when, unintentionally, things pass teachers by in a big class. And well done on your run!

Vbus - if you can't laugh... I watched life of brian again last night, and the song at the end always gets me however grumpy I'm feeling.

Do any of you know about food processors? I was thinking about getting Bosch but heard that Magimix is good. But so much more expensive, why? I've shelved idea of getting Kitchenaid artisan that they used on Great British Bake Off, pretty but v pricey and my meagre cooking skills don't deserve it!

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/10/2011 20:44

Kora - on food processors, I thought about magimix and kitchenaid when my old handheld blender thing went kaput, but eventually bought another handheld blender thing with a chopper. I use the chopper a lot and it's easy to clean. I use the blender a fair bit in the summer to do strawberry milkshakes Grin. For cakes I use an old handheld mixer that MIL gave me, but most of the time we make cakes by hand. We also have a mechanical mixer that you have to operate by winding like mad which the kids always want to use but it's hell to clean.

That's all our kitchen gadgets. We have a very small kitchen are very minimalist.

sfxmum · 23/10/2011 20:57

Kora my gadgets are similar to Coppers but I dream of a kitchenaid or magimix

sfxmum · 23/10/2011 20:59

Spooks!

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/10/2011 21:00

Last ever spooks.

If I have lots of space I'd get a magimix, I think.

vbus · 24/10/2011 07:34

Sfx - LOL at article Grin

Kora - I think you're right, I've reached the point where if I didn't laugh I would definitely be crying!
I have handblender my mum gave me it's 20+ yrs old Shock but still great for milkshakes, soups etc. It too has whisk attachment. I bought new food pro few yrs back but decided couldn't afford justify cost of Magimix and my kenwood is brill for what I need it to do. It sits on worktop and gets used for couple of times/wk and then I can chuck bowls/blades etc in dishwasher. Decide what your going to use it for and look at speeds and functionality to suit your needs. I have some attachments which I'll probably never use but the rest I love

Going to try and meet up with nice neighbours today

hello all

lovely not to have alarm clocks and rush child around

are we meeting at around 10-11?

posted article on FB with pics about Saturday's race, illustrates perfectly what I meant am actually in that group but can't be seen

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/10/2011 17:56

We should be there around 10.

Made toffee popcorn. What to do with half a jar or toffee sauce?

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/10/2011 18:00

Maybe apple and cinnamon pancakes with toffee sauce? Grin

sfxmum · 24/10/2011 18:39

today we got up- near 9 so if we are to make it for 10 we are likely to have breakfast there, dd should like it

sfxmum · 24/10/2011 18:40

yes copper looks like good use for toffee sauce, also lovely on top of ice cream

Kora · 24/10/2011 19:55

Wow, I shall have to make pancakes for breakfast! Thanks for food processor tips, I keep changing my mind but probably will go for Bosch. One thing I noticed is that it has 1.2L capacity whereas the magimix has 3. Is this a crucial difference?

Sorry I can't join you tomorrow, I'm going to try to take a few more half-terms off next year but this year had to bunch hols around xmas so still working this week. Have a brilliant morning with all the lovely DCs. Smile

vbus · 24/10/2011 20:11

Kora - It just means the mixing bowl capacity is much bigger, mine is 3L! pity we won't see you tomorrow Sad

10ish is good for us, looking foward to it. Seem to have double booked myself so will head off after lunch. Who is coming tomorrow?

Copper
Sfx
Island
Vbus
Tilly?
Flubba?

I think i need a vacation...

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/10/2011 07:49

Good morning!

We've had our pancake, even before 7am. Shock

Ready to go back to bed now ...

vbus · 25/10/2011 15:32

Nice to see some of you earlier [hsmile] DC had a nice time and Ds1 still talking about Bonsai maple!

Island - sorry I didn't see you before I left, hope you got DD2 for a nap

Now I'm home pleased to report wall built on neighbour's side which is a huge relief. Just have a sense of general stress in anticpation of neighbour's next move Hmm

OP posts:
sfxmum · 25/10/2011 16:37

hello we had a lovely time too nice to be out and about, amused that dd was not keen on meet up but could barely be dragged away in the end

islandhaze · 25/10/2011 18:03

Thank you all for a great time!

Vbus, DD2 skipped a nap, but we ended up doing to a hospital in Teddington. I was just scared about her having a broken hip, but, she is good now, i guess/hope nothing bad. And just a bit later, when i told you, that i wouldnt like to go to a hospital today :o

Sfx,Thank you one more time, DD1 one had a great time, and now cannot wait till Halloween.
It was a good day after all! :)

vbus · 25/10/2011 18:14

Island - Shock at hospital trip, glad it was nothing, maybe she might have bruise in the worst case

What is everyone doing for Halloween? Trick or treating?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 25/10/2011 18:32

my pleasure island glad all ok in the end dd1 was fine and my dd was happy to bring a friend home

vbus the neighbour children usually roam about the estate in costume, last year they cut out the lights for about an hour and there were torches floating around loots of spooky fun, i usually send dh along

vbus · 25/10/2011 20:32

Sfx - sounds fun. I just wondered as DS1 asked if he could go trick or treating this yr. I wasn't planning on taking them. Last yr they both dressed up at home so when people called round they had a bit of fun. This yr there is a local halloween party which would be perfect but DS2 got b'day party same time, will have to sort out logistics

DS1 looked up 2 words today neither of them in his dictionary, pesky and dracula [hgrin]

OP posts:
sfxmum · 25/10/2011 20:35

vbus just checked dd's and nope not in hers either, obviously not on with popular culture

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/10/2011 20:58

Hello!

DS1 has THREE bruises down his back from falling off at the climbing frame ... He said it's dangerous to be 7... So be warned. Hmm

I intend to have ear plugs in and darkened house. Don't want to be disturbed in the evening, especially not by kids. >

Dracula unlikely to be in small dictionary seeing it's proper noun, but will go and look up pesky in DSs' dictionary. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/10/2011 21:20

I forgot some of us have the same dictionary, so probably pesky is not a word deemed useful to young minds.

Bastards.

I wonder if "bastard" is in it ...

vbus · 26/10/2011 08:54

Pesky was in DS1's school reading book!

Bit soggy today, will still head out later on though
