vbus · 18/10/2010 14:43

hello

Tilly suggested meeting at pub for a drink at 8pm called Old Ship(?) opposite dept store then we can go to restaurant 8.30pm.

Sfx - thanks again so much for your help this morning! Haven't done such manic shopping for a long time but at least it was productive Grin

Dusty - Enjoy Ceili, should be fun!

Of to meet teacher soon

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/10/2010 10:12

Hello!

Internet back. Yay! Working from home and munching chickpeas. Smile

Pub sounds a good idea. Might go a bit earlier for window-shopping (always crave window-shopping after a spell of dull stuff at work), so can go for drinks with anyone at a loose end earlier.

sfxmum · 19/10/2010 11:55

hello

lovely sunny daySmile

vbus pleasure as always

lordcopper might take you up on that as I try to leave home before bedtime routine

busy but not keen on doing what I must

tutorial was quite good at the weekend, as predicted one student seemed quite the loony, always the case in these kind of courses

SushiMummy · 19/10/2010 12:22

Hi all.

As for this Sat, I'll try to be at the pub 8ish, if not, I will meet you guys at Wagamama. Smile

vbus · 19/10/2010 14:30

Copper - Might be able to join you earlier on this occasion as parents have decided to move to London sooner than planned so I've cancelled sitter and can leave kids with them (they don't know yet but I'm sure it will be fine Grin)

Teacher chat went v. well yesterday.

Tilly - nice to see you and DS2 earlier Smile

Just waiting for engineer to come and repair our fridge, I'm really hoping it's a quick fix Hmm

odetothewestwing · 19/10/2010 17:59

Oooh vbus, fab news re: your parents! I so wish that I could join you all on Sat night. Can't make the half-term meet either as dd and I are off on a girls' jaunt! Maybe over the Christmas break! Had parents' evening last night, dd has settled really, really well into the new school and is generally doing brilliantly Smile - relief all round!

sfxmum · 20/10/2010 11:06

hello all

westwing and vbus good to know respective children are doing well at school always a relief

on Monday one of the children in dd's class had an accident in the playground and had to be taken to hospital, he had eye surgery but all seems ok now

dh has an exam today and I have accounts to do, want dd back asap to distract meGrin

I am looking forward to half term, it will be nice to slow down for a while

OP posts:
vbus · 20/10/2010 11:39

Westwing - you must be really pleased! Hopefully you can make it to the next meet up instead

I texted Mellow she will try and join us

Sfx - Good luck with accounts, hope not too dull. Also looking fwd to half term but diary somehow seems packed already Hmm

Better go and get DS1 now, toodle pips

Kewcumber · 20/10/2010 15:37

sfx - did you know your teacher is pregnant (not sure if it is obvious or openly announced)? Perhaps she will go off on maternity leave swiftly and avoid having to confront the problme Grin

sfxmum · 20/10/2010 17:11

KewC you incorrigible gossipGrin

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 20/10/2010 17:24

I have no office politics to occupy me Grin though my source is not playground gossip but from staff (taps side of nose mysteriously), know who the favorite supplier is at the moment for next years home-cooked new school meals if you want to lob me a fiver...

sfxmum · 20/10/2010 18:21

Grin is that what office people do all day?

what I would like to know is where do they get the funding from to bring their kitchen up to spec

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 20/10/2010 19:48

All I know is that governors have approved the pend - assume it is coming from PFI partner.

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/10/2010 20:16

Hello!

What a nice sunny day. Bloody cold though! Very nice afternoon with friends. Exhausted now, but for once I'm doing the tidying up (cleaner coming tomorrow). Then a drink, I think.

DS2 is going for school dinners after half-term. I think he just doesn't like cold food. Now I need a Windows machine to pay for the school meals. I've not come across so crap a website for a long time since Nat West.

vbus · 20/10/2010 20:54

DS1 has asked if he can have packed lunch from Jan, at least there'll be smomething that he might eat

Had friends over this afternoon which was nice. Both boys so diligent at school and at football yet when they get together they go craaazzzy. I'm exhausted, bit of tv, hot choc then bed. Then it all starts again tomorrow Grin

sfxmum · 20/10/2010 21:03

dd has been making noises about packed lunches but I don't think so not at least until the Spring, I know they are not the best but she gets to eat something hot

had friends over after school too, nice to have a coffee and children who get along, noisy play but no disagreements, am actively avoiding another parent and child both driving me nutsGrin

this week is disappearing fast

did anyone agree on half term meet up? I can't quite recall

OP posts:
vbus · 21/10/2010 13:07

I don't mind what DS1 chooses to eat as long as he eats it Grin With his poor appetite I think it's better he chooses, he can always switch to school dinners later if he wants to

Sfx - I take it you've not broached subject of behaviour with your friend that you're avoiding? Tricky topic

So icy this morning, DS2 slipped in playground, aww.

Westwing - how's your coat? Mine is lovely and snug but too warm for lunchtime pick up!

Right better get on with shep pie and ironing before swimming this afternoon

Kewcumber · 21/10/2010 14:47

off to meeting with teacher to discuss the pitfalls of the forthcoming "babies and how they change" topic - driven by baby photos and a form to fill in with info from birth Hmm Ho hum - the beginning of various obstacles to negotiate I suspect.

vbus · 21/10/2010 15:15

Good luck with form filling, DS has his own special story Smile

s for half term suggestion was to meet Weds at Kew (weather permitting) from 10am. Hope that's ok for all

sfxmum · 21/10/2010 16:45

kewC I think they are sharing a subject with the year up, dd is meant to do something like that too
and one child in dd's class has similar story to share although it is not widely known not sure how the parents will deal with it

vbus re the child the driving me nuts behaviour, I am not friends with the mum, I talk to her but that is about it, the behaviour is recognised but not dealt with which is where I have the problem, even dh is getting annoyed and he is far more tolerant than I am

feeling out of sorts this week and don't seem to have achieved much but at least I have been sleeping better, must do a longer run tomorrow have been doing only 3-4 miles for the past couple of weeks it is time to sort the 10K bring it to decent time[hhmm]

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 21/10/2010 17:53

Kew - good luck with this baby business. We have the same too but just need to bring in photo. I've seen DS1's class ones and they vary from baby to toddler photos. Also have to "talk to your child about what they can do now that they cannot do as a baby". As if they remember. Not sure what is to be gained from such an exercise. >

Cannot wait for half-term. Still have to work but have two days off. Smile

Kewcumber · 21/10/2010 21:00

DS has indeed his own special story but it is his own and I'm keen for the teacher to understand that these things should not be turned into a "show and tell" of his life. He has to go to school with these childrne for at least 7 years and some possibly secondary too and what he is happy for them to know at 5 (everything!) is not necessarily what he will be happy sharing at 8 or 11 or 14etc.

But meeting was cancelled - something going on at school (all open sessions cancelled) and I think she just forgot she'd agreed to see me at 3pm Hmm I need to get back to work where people do as they are told [utopian dream of work emoticon]

sfxmum · 21/10/2010 21:17

That is interesting KewC the consideration of what is or might become too private really is relative, perhaps when it highlights difference

regarding school I was told that the meeting with the head were cancelled due to lack of interest, I had signed up for one of them, haven't been at the school today

watching nonsense telly about Harry being 't be kidnapped in Afghanistan, can't be more amusing than the high society brides thing I watched yesterday, mostly totally bonkers out of touch women
I need to read more

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 21/10/2010 21:48

Talking about reading: has anyone read any Kafka? Any recommendation?

Am reading Kinky Friedman. Grin

sfxmum · 21/10/2010 21:55

re kafka just the usual Metamorphosis The Trial and a collection of short stories can't quite recall which

re Kinky only ever heard the name no idea what it is like

weirdly the Human Traces book I am reading seems to be synchronizing quite well with my course material, it is freaky to see the same names referenced, maybe I can use it in an essay
